This female leopard is special since she has cataract on her left hand eye. As far as I know she didn't had this condition just over a year ago and with her behavior it did not seem the condition of the eye has affected her life a lot. Hopefully she will continue strong and the authorities will take action to cure her if possible. . In Sri Lanka we commemorate Children's day on October 1st. So, here are the two latest additions to the Wilpattu leopard family. The "Ranawara pitiya cubs" --------- Ranawara (Senna auriculata) or Tanner's cassia. It is a shrub type with a bright yellow flower. Pitiya is the Sinhalese word meaning "grounds" In Wilpattu there is a area where these shrubs are plentiful and that is where these two cubs usually reside. Lazy boy 3000 Similar to us having our favorite couch, leopards too have their preffered branches to sit on. The height from the ground, ease of climbing up and down, the surface area to sit and the comfortness of the surface of the branch may factor into their decision. As safari guides if we know that a leopard frequents a certain branch, we can check that particular branch when we are passing through the area and hopefuly we can get a sighting. . . . There is a female leopard called the broken-eared female in Wilpattu National Park. This is one of her cubs. There was some light rain before this sighting and there was some rain even when we had the sighting, but the cub did not mind the rain at all. Instead it seemed to enjoy the experience. It's amazing how well leopards are camouflaged even on open grasslands. This female was walking behind the grass and some of my guests had a difficult time spotting it. I always say look for movement. Even I would probably miss it if it was laying still on the ground. Leopards have to keep a low profile, since when prey animals notice them it makes hunting even more difficult than it already is, but it is wonderful how their coat keeps helps them concealed in the open grasslands as well as the forest undergrowth. . . . A very comfy leopard. This is one of the cub ls of the famous Cleopatra. It has nothing to worry since the father owns this entire territory and this this is the core of the mothers territory. It was seen sleeping comfortably in an open grassy area rolling around taking in the evening sun light. The only thing that was bothering the leopard was the bugs in the vicinity.
