Steam locomotive number 13, "Empire," was built for the Virginia & Truckee Railroad in 1873. It was last used by the Pacific Portland Cement Company (Gerlach, NV) in 1931. This image shows "Empire" as it was displayed at the California State Railroad Museum in 1987. 1987 September 7.

North Pacific Coast Railroad steam locomotive number 12, named "Sonoma." This locomotive was built in 1876 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works, Philadelphia, North Pacific Coast Railroad. The NPC RR operated a 914mm (3 ft, 1 yd) gauge line from Sausalito to Duncans Mills. "Sonoma" was last used by the Nevada Central Railroad in 1938. This view shows "Sonoma" as it was displayed at the California State Railroad Museum in 1982. 1982 April 5.
