I think my thing for FFXIV has cooled a bit. a lot. like I think once the Ascian arc ended I started to lose the fervour I had for the story and honestly while I think Zero is a respectable character and she's quite likeable by my standards I didn't personally connect with her and I kind of found the Void arc to be. not as interesting as I'd expected (read: a bit goddamn tedious) (again -- decent stuff, just not personally engaging). so slogging through the patch content really was the last nail in the coffin
this probably means I'm secretly an Ascian and [insert that bird meme that's like "I am upset when not about me??"]. lmao
anyway this also dovetails neatly with the fact that I have been under the suspicion that Dayir and Ishan's role as Protagonists(tm) ends when Endsinger does. they've Done It. the destinies of the various Ancients that facilitated their existence are all fulfilled. it is time for rest. it is time for Dayir to explore this new, sharper, weirder, more complex person she's become. it is time for Ishan to truly learn to bury the lance and plant a garden over it -- literally as well as emotionally. they were never adventurers. they were always the Heart and Hound of Darkness. the heralds of a new age. and now that's all done with. so.
I think there could be other strange things that happen to them. there probably are. they won't just disappear off the face of the earth (they're still Scions, after all, too). but anything that happens to them won't be things that happen in the story of the game called Final Fantasy Fourteen, you see. they're like... when you play a sequel to a game and the player character of the first game is there again but as an NPC this time, possibly one who gives exposition and gear and ushers your fresh-faced PC on the road to new adventures. yknow? so assuming I will play Dawntrail (I mean. FFXIV is still one of my favourite games of all time, so obviously, but maybe not with the same brainwormy enthusiasm that I brought to ShB and EW), who is my new Protagonist? through whose eyes will I be looking at the world now?
much to think about etc
