This is my first go at a Dishonored fic featuring my new OC, Lyla Blackwood! :3

She can’t take her eyes off of the Overseer as she strides ahead. His form grows closer and closer causing her heart to race further. Lyla only stops when her boot comes in contact with the sword. She crouches down and reaches out to the blade, admiring its long tapered design before her fingers wrap around the leather-bound grip. The size and weight was designed for a hand far larger than her own but nonetheless she raises the weapon. 

Lyla returns her sight back to the Overseer. He was not more than three feet in front of her but the reverberating sounds from his music box covered her presence. Her jaw clenches as she watches him. Hatred fills every part of her being. Both of her hands grip at the blade as she stares at him. 

Her feet take slow, calculated steps forward. Her arms raise up until they’re nearly over her head. Hot, angry tears pool at the corners of her eyes as she stops just behind the Overseer. A flicker of apprehension flutters through her gut, faltering her grip.

Could she truly kill a man?

Images of her mother begging, pleading for the Overseers to let her free, flash through her mind. 

Lyla’s hand burns through the bandages covering it, reigniting her fury. It was as if someone was guiding her along, whispering in her ear, quelling those second thoughts. Within mere moments her will returns and she brings the blade down in a hard motion, driving the sword’s edge through the Overseer’s back until it emerges from his chest. 

He barely has time to let out a gasp before his body drops to the ground and his music box goes crashing alongside him. Lyla lets his body take the blade as she steps away, taking deep breaths as the adrenaline pumps through her veins. She blinks as she tries to clear away the fogginess of her mind. She watches as blood pools beneath the Overseer. She had done it. She had killed him.

A quick wisp of air comes from Lyla’s left and her eyes snap over to the man in red. He was standing now, much quicker than she would have expected from a man who was in a weakened state just moments ago. 

The two of them simply look at each other, assessing whether they should be defensive to the other or not.

Lyla studies the scars across the man’s face. They were markings she had seen many times before…inked onto the City Watch’s bounty posters.
