Day 1 ~ May I have this dance?
Maddie felt unbelievably out of place, as one did if they knew nobody except their drunk brother, who was grinding it up on the dance floor. It was to be expected after all, she was only here because she didn't want to stay at his apartment, alone. She figured she wouldn't survive an hour alone, not so soon after...
Maddie shuddered, taking another sip of her wine, hoping it would wash down the memories. On the bright side, it looked like Evan was having fun, the first time she had seen him in years and it seemed like he had found his home, his place.
"May I have this dance?"
A short Asian man, shy smile upon his face offered a hand to Maddie, wracking her brain to try a put a name to his face, one of many that she had whipped past when she first arrived.
"I.. uh," Maddie stuttered, still doing her best to remember his name. Luckily he realized her struggle.
"It's Chimney- uh Howie, you can call me Howie."
He wiggled his fingers again, still offered towards her.
"So? May I?"
"Did Evan, uh, Buck, put you up to this?"
He chuckled, looking over his shoulder to the dance floor.
"You mean 'stumbling around on the dance floor' Buck? You think?" Howie shook his head. "How could I pass up a beautiful woman such as yourself sitting off to the side here?"
Maddie cocked her head to the right slightly. Something about this man intrigued her, from his playful attitude despite his shyness, and how he held himself, and it might be the wine talking but she couldn't help but find him at least a little attractive.
Besides, she could feel her troubling thoughts slipping away, and she was more and more tempted by that hand before her. Maybe she should let herself have some fun. Downing the rest of the wine in her glass, she grabbed his hand, letting him pull her to her feet.
"It's Maddie. And you better make it a good one."
"Mmm, I consider myself a pretty good dancer."
"Sure."
