please rec us your books by authors we haven't heard of heheh
omgg love this question. just a qualification: these aren't like,,, unknown books or anything like that, they're just books that don't make it on to spaces like tumblr - and they were definitely authors i didn't know myself! i don't want to frame this as like "i am bringing these authors to light and they have been forgotten by the narrative and i am the hero" etc etc and then when you see the author, it's like. dibya prakash dubey who's one of the foremost authors in hindi writing right now.
since the exam i gave was pretty canon heavy i wanted to avoid western writers as much as possible, so here's what i am reading right now:
Akbar by Shazi Zaman: this is a nonfiction biography of certain specific years of Akbar's life. the original is in hindi but there IS (a much more expensive) translation in english. honestly if you like historical writing, i think this book is a lovely investment, just because Shazi Zaman has done so much research. there's an included family tree, a map of india, and like a number of other beautiful things in it. @readingthenight and i bought both the hindi copy and english copy together. we got it from a book store in ahmedabad.
Once I was a Nomad: Pema's story from Tibet by Mona Bruchmann and Samdol Lhamo Sichoe, which is a children's novel about a young girl in Tibet. this was written by a mother daughter duo, and i think is published by dolls4tibet. i found it in a boutique in majnu ka tila.
No Onions, Nor Garlic by Srividya Natarajan is. well. you know the casteism in indian universities? its particularly about that, particularly about the way in which english departments use texts like shakespeare to alienate a significant portion of their student body. as u can imagine i am personally invested in this i want to feel anger at my own field while reading it. this one i got because a friend of mind recommended it to me, and she generally has good taste.
The Most Notorious Jailbreakers by Abeer Kapoor is exactly what it says on the tin. i think this is like a non fiction again, to be honest i didn't look into it too much - i saw the title, i was like yeah, sounds great, i'd love to know about Phoolan Devi's killer, and i bought it. shoutout to Universal Bookstore Hazratganj, Lucknow. there's a lovely old man who runs the store and recommends things to you.
Sultan: The Legend of Hyder Ali by Shubhendra: as u can see i am having a historical fiction moment. again, you can imagine what's going on here, it's about Hyder Ali. you can't stop me from reading historical fiction. again, from that book store in ahmedabad.
thats it for like. right now. i was also going to get at some new fantasy fiction!!!! but i want an enemies to lovers story that makes me feel things.

Majnu ka Tila: The Hidden Gem of Delhi's Korean Market
Tumblr media
Short Summary (100 words): Nestled in the bustling heart of Delhi lies a vibrant cultural oasis, Majnu ka Tila, or MKT, a neighborhood that boasts a remarkable fusion of Tibetan and Korean influences. In this article, we will delve into the multifaceted charm of this captivating enclave, explore its rich tapestry of culture, savor the delectable Korean cuisine, and discover the unique shopping experiences it offers. Majnu ka Tila, often called the "Little Korea of Delhi," is a place where diverse cultures harmoniously coexist, creating a truly special and unforgettable atmosphere.
Description :
Delhi, the bustling metropolis known for its rich history and diverse culture, has a hidden gem that might surprise even its seasoned residents. Tucked away in the northern part of the city, near the banks of the Yamuna River, is Majnu ka Tila, a neighborhood that has earned the moniker "Little Korea of Delhi." This unassuming enclave has evolved into a thriving hub of Korean culture, offering a unique blend of traditions, flavors, and experiences that beckon both locals and tourists alike.
A Cultural Melting Pot
Majnu ka Tila, originally established as a Tibetan refugee colony, has undergone a significant transformation over the years. It has emerged as a diverse and vibrant community, attracting not only Tibetans but also a substantial Korean population. The neighborhood has since become a cultural melting pot where East meets East, fostering a remarkable confluence of Tibetan and Korean traditions.
The Korean influence in Majnu ka Tila is evident from the moment you step into this charming neighborhood. Korean signage on shops and restaurants, the aroma of Korean cuisine wafting through the narrow lanes, and the sound of K-pop music emanating from every corner make it clear that you are in the heart of Delhi's Korean market.
Culinary Delights of Majnu ka Tila
One of the most compelling reasons to visit Majnu ka Tila is its delectable Korean cuisine. The neighborhood boasts an impressive array of restaurants and street vendors, each offering an authentic taste of Korea.
Korean classics like Bibimbap, a dish comprising rice, vegetables, and meat, and Bulgogi, a mouthwatering Korean barbecue dish, are readily available. The savory and spicy Kimchi, a staple in Korean meals, can be found in abundance, along with the ever-popular Tteokbokki, a spicy rice cake dish. Wash down these sumptuous delights with some Soju, a traditional Korean alcoholic beverage.
For those who prefer different Asian flavors, Majnu ka Tila also offers Tibetan cuisine, ensuring a diverse dining experience.
A Shopper's Paradise
Majnu ka Tila is not just a haven for food enthusiasts; it's also a paradise for shoppers. The market is teeming with shops that specialize in Korean skincare products, clothing, accessories, and an array of K-pop merchandise. Whether you're looking for skincare products from popular Korean brands or the latest K-pop albums and merchandise, you'll find it here.
In addition to Korean wares, the market offers a unique shopping experience for those interested in Tibetan and other Asian art and crafts. Handmade jewelry, traditional Tibetan thangka paintings, clothing, and a wide range of artifacts are on display, providing a colorful and vibrant glimpse into the rich tapestry of Asian cultures.
The Coexistence of Two Worlds
What makes Majnu ka Tila truly extraordinary is the harmonious coexistence of two worlds: Tibetan and Korean. Tibetan prayer flags flutter in the wind, carrying prayers and blessings, while K-pop music videos play in the background. This intersection of cultures is a beautiful reminder that diversity enriches our lives, and the blending of traditions can create something truly unique.
The coexistence of these two cultures is more than just a geographical coincidence; it's a testament to the idea that people from different backgrounds can come together to create a vibrant and harmonious community. It's a living example of unity in diversity.
A Must-Visit Destination
Majnu ka Tila is not just a market; it's a cultural journey waiting to be explored. It offers an escape from the traditional Delhi experience, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Tibetan and Korean cultures.
Whether you're a food enthusiast, a culture seeker, or simply looking for a unique experience in Delhi, Majnu ka Tila is a must-visit destination. It's a place where you can indulge in delectable cuisine, shop for exotic wares, and immerse yourself in the enchanting tapestry of two remarkable cultures. In a city known for its historical landmarks, Majnu ka Tila stands out as a contemporary jewel, offering a vibrant glimpse of the multicultural tapestry that is India's capital.

Triund Trekking and Camping - Mcleodganj – Hill Ventures
Triund is a beautiful mountain range offering stunning views of the snow capped Dhauladhar Mountains in Dharamshala Himachal Pradesh. This trip is an easy and amazing journey for people who love trekking and mountain climbing. The ideal time for this trip is from March to June and from September to December. Embark on a journey on this track that will pass through the lush green Deodar forest along the way and snow-capped mountains and peaks such as Indrahar Pass, Moon Peak Rifle Horn and Arthur's Seat as well as panoramic views of the entire covered Kangra Valley can be seen in the clouds that will make every minute this triund climb is more fun. It is the perfect weekend gateway for those who want to refresh their life away from the noisy and polluted city. triund trek
Starting point
Galu Devi Temple in Dharamkot is the starting point of this journey. You can hire a taxi from Dharamshala or Mcleodganj to reach this place. There is a checkpoint here manned by a forest ranger where hikers must check in by 2pm before the start of the hike.
Delhi to Dharamshala by bus
From Delhi it is best to take the night bus to Mcleodganj. A bus bound for Dharamshala will take you to the main square of McLeodganj. There are two bus options from Delhi. There are buses either from Majnu ka Tila (officially called New Aruna Nagar Colony) in North Delhi or from Kashmir Gate ISBT to Dharamshala. There is a direct private bus to Dharamshala which leaves late at night from 18:00. It takes about 10 to 11 hours to reach Mcleodganj. The second option is to take the bus from ISBT Kashmere Gate. triund trek
Delhi to Dharamshala by plane
There is an average of three flights from Delhi to Kangra Airport. Flights usually arrive in the morning to late afternoon. There are no night flights to Dharamshala. There is a taxi association right in front of Kangra Airport and you can hire a taxi directly to Dharamshala or McLeodganj. You can book a hotel in Dharamshala if you are really late and want a night's rest.
Reach triund
It is a 7 km trek from Dharamkot Mcleodganj and usually takes around 4 hours to reach the summit. The climb is moderate for most of the climb, except for the steep climb of the last kilometer with a switch.
Things to wear
The starting point of the trip is Galu Devi Dharamkot Temple where you can fill your water bottle. Before starting the hike, bring at least 2 liters of water. You can fill the water near the natural river before 1 km from the Triund hike. Water is scarce at the top of the ridge and you can hike back up to the river to recharge. Do not throw away plastic bottles as they can cause plastic water to accumulate in the natural landscape. Bring a light backpack, wear quality walking shoes, and comfortable clothing. If you are traveling in winter, bring warm clothes as the weather in Triund can be very cold for hours. Alcohol is not allowed during the climb. Don't continue climbing
  Permission and security
The starting point of the journey is Galu Devi Temple where your backpack and identity will be checked by forest officials before starting the journey. Make sure to pass this point before 2 pm, after which you are not allowed to start the journey from this forest control post.
Where to stay in Triund
You can rent a tent on the summit or stay at a jungle lodge, which you pre-book directly on the HP Tourism website. You can also bring and set up your own tent. It is recommended to follow a pre-planned itinerary with the tour operator for your comfortable stay in Triund.
