so i definitely don’t post things like this here on my blog, but i’ve been dying to talk about something important to me, and important to Hestia!!
it’s this (very) rough drawing-
Tumblr media
Hestia’s pocket-watch! What was originally used as a plot device during one of my wonderful RPs with @queen-with-the-quill has become one of my favorite aspects of Hestia’s physical description, as well as her relationship with Tumblebrutus, since he was the one who found it and gave it to her!
I wanted it to be more than just a pocket watch, so I kind of ended up accidentally modeling it after that clock that the Weasley family has in Harry Potter?
So the pocket watch has symbols that represent the most important cats to her, the members of her (living) family.
so, going clockwise:
The rose: It’s Hestia’s symbol (inspired by the wonderful header that @platothefluffbutt made for me for her blog!), so that’s where the hands rest if she’s in the Junkyard with her family.
The sparkles: Mistoffelees, of course! I had to do his sparkles for his symbol, since his encouragement and happiness is what helps Hestia to push forward.
The scarf: Tugger, and I wanted to do something more unique to him, since multiple cats have spiked collars, so I went with the scarf that he has tied around his leg! I definitely imagine baby Hestia just sitting next to her dad gnawing on his scarf while he’s talking to other cats.
The bracelet: Tumblebrutus! He and Hestia have matching bracelets, with Hestia’s having a brown bead, and Tumblebrutus’ having a blue, to represent their eyes.
The book: One of Jubilee’s favorite books, and it definitely took me quite a while to decide which book to model her symbol after, but I thought that Peter Rabbit would be a good choice! @queen-with-the-quill
The heart: Sekhmet is the heart of the family. There, I said it, and it’s true, and anyone who doesn’t agree with me can fight me. She does keep her feelings and emotions to herself from time to time (hence the thorns).
The flame: Ares, since the very first thing that Hestia ever associated with her brother was the scent of ash, and is a scent that she still associates with him. But also, to Hestia, Ares is warm and kind to those he cares about, and protective. @dcjelliclequeen33
The moon: This represents the general Junkyard, though it can also represent Old Deuteronomy if Hestia focuses on her grandfather.
The silver hands on the clock help Hestia to know whether or not her family’s in the Junkyard. If she focuses on one of the symbols, the hands switch around. The red hand alerts Hestia of incoming danger, and the silver hands will point to whichever cat is in danger, or if the Junkyard and Jellicles are in danger. When nothing is happening, it rests on Hestia’s symbol.
The line written “when you’re walking alone” is the line from the opening song that I associate most with Hestia, as well as the line that I imagine her taking over once she’s old enough to join the Jellicles during the Ball. It also helps to keep her grandmother close, as it was once Grizabella’s line.
I’m hoping to write a short about this watch, and how Tumblebrutus gives it to Hestia, so stay tuned for that!
