I know this is 100% not what @angelbitezzz meant by ‘draw Gaster having a dream about Asteri,’ but the brainworms overtook me. I ended up drawing an entire scribble comic.

Notes:

Asteri’s tail is wound around Gaster’s hand in the 8th picture

The wingdings in the 5th picture say, “OH THANK THE STARS”

Gaster’s natural eyeglowing color is blue, so, like in the Handplates universe, skeletons glow when they’re Going Through It, for stress relief/emotional regulation, as well as for social reasons; it’s context-sensitive. In the one with Asteri’s dream, he glowed his eyes to calm her down; in this one, he’s glowing blue because he’s having such a bad time

Related, yellow is stress/fear (though other things in other contexts, like righteous indignation), and purple can be a lot of things but this time it’s fear/sadness + helplessness + “I need help!!” The green/blue combo in the 5th picture is relief (happiness + love/his natural color)

The sudden change from picture 3 to picture 4 is the realization that it was just a dream -> ‘WAIT IT WAS JUST A DREAM, RIGHT?’

As seen in Part 8.2, Gaster more readily reverts to wingdings when he’s upset, which is why he’s not speaking in Aster or signing.

Gaster can open his mouth (I think it’s in part 6 or 7?), he just doesn’t usually, except to eat, because he doesn’t feel it’s necessary/useful for emoting. (I wish he would change his mind on this, it’d make drawing him easier sometimes.) But waking up from a nightmare like that one tends to make you move without thinking
