Day 137 of the “Lockdown”
Oh surprise, surprise. The president, of all people, signed a executive order dealing with unemployment insurance, evictions, and payroll taxes...just, he removed the tax to pay for social security and unemployment insurance...and then, said that if re-elected, he would remove them permanently. Just so we’re clear- He said he’d remove social security, leaving the program to die. My own father is on social security. This could end all payments to him to survive. It also means that money I’ve paid in won’t be there when I retire.

Day 61 of the “Lockdown”
Still people say that staying home is worse than going out during a pandemic. Are they serious?! Don’t die for the economy. Don’t die for false claims. Don’t die because they say it infringes on your civil liberties.
Also, I know it isn’t technically a lockdown, but if everything is not open for business as usual, it’s a lockdown to me.

Day 50 of the “Lockdown”
I still cannot believe it’s been 50 days.
I basically still act the same in my behavior- staying at home. Go figure.

Day 49 of the “Lockdown”
I know the stay at home order has expired, but I have a feeling these phases won’t pass very quickly. The amount of cases need to decline for us to proceed to the next phase.
We’re expecting a second wave of this pandemic.

Day 21 of the “Lockdown”
I had the opportunity to see our president blame the media, like Fox News for his criticizim live.
Then, he claimed he has total power as president, which is untrue. He is not a king.
Sanders endorsed Biden, a big disappointment. I won’t vote for either candidate. Both are horrible people with horrible policies. Unless one actually takes a humanity stance, both will not get my vote.
On a side note, work has many people, possibly more than needed for the “full” time. This has led us to run out of things to do earlier.

Days 365 of the “Lockdown” - A year later
April 7, 2021
It’s been one year since the “lockdown” was initiated. My thoughts about it are still that this could have been avoided.
I keep saying “lockdown”, even though it really wasn’t at all.
People in our country are too afraid to take drastic measures to ensure the safety of everyone else and themselves by staying home, as well as our leaders failing to take steps to encourage staying at home by giving the people money so they can pay their bills. By my recollection, the American people were given $3,200 for the whole year. If broken down, that is equivalent to $266.66/month or $61.53/week or $8.76/day- which my job pays a little under double that per hour. Mind you, this is for single individuals or parents of children. People which children were given much more, which I agree should have happened. Unemployment benefits were increase, but again, if it were just a straight payment, like $2,000/month per person, unemployment benefits should not have needed to be increased. A universal basic income for the duration of the pandemic should of been implemented from day one.
It’s not just the money aspect, but also the call for “essential” workers to keep going to work. I’ve been over this many times with others, but when you have a society like ours, the term “essential” applies to almost every industry. The logic is that hospitals have to stay open because people need to depend on those services or die. Pretty logical. Then, these doctors, physicians, and staff need to be able to get to and from work, meaning gas stations and car repair places need to be open. These places have entire delivery systems in place to get products, like gas and parts, to their locations. Someone has to process and create these products for use. Next, everyone has to eat, not just the hospital staff, but those working gas stations and parts stores, meaning that fast food and stores need to stay open. Since these are all still open, places like federal offices need to stay open to a degree, maybe with limited hours. I had a discussion with a boss, in the minds of our company, every item we sell is “essential” in some regard, as it keeps people home and not out shopping. However, they fail to understand that we are then put into harms way instead- acceptable losses as I put it. The example given was that a video game is essential. That means every form of entertainment is essential in some degree. Which leaves what as being non-”essential” exactly?
Likewise, if people are “essential” during a crisis, shouldn’t they be paid more in the form of hazard pay? I guess my company realized that there is no need to pay employees hazard pay because every business is “essential” like them. Paying employees hazard pay is just a waste of money at that point. It’s a bit aggravating to say the least. When congress tried to pass a $15/hour minimum wage increase, it was shut down. Yet, if you look at the number in a yearly aspect, $15/hour calculates to just $31,200/year. If we only focused on the hourly rate employees get, it looks scary. If I said I made $81,000/year, it would look okay- nothing special. However, if I said I made $38/hour, it suddenly looks like I’m making way more than I should be. It is part of the problem. Inflation doesn’t stop. Prices have continually went up and are still doing so. This is also why hamburgers don’t cost a quarter anymore, like they did in the 1950s.
Our country is afraid of 6 things: 1. That if we take a break, we’ll fall behind other countries that we are currently ahead of. 2. That if we take a break, our current systems will fall apart 3. That if we take a break, people will be upset 4. That if we give people money, they will become entitled and not want to return to a time where money was not given 5. That if we give people money, they will not want to work 6. That if we give people money, super inflation will happen
Our country is willing to let people die because of the above things they are afraid of. Over 570,000 people have died in the just the U.S. from the coronavirus (2.8 million worldwide). The numbers are still over 500 people a day (over 900 yesterday and over 500 the day before). Yet, our leaders do nothing. They instead are focusing on opening everything back up because they see our country as suffering financially. This would not have happened if we had went into an actual lockdown during the first month, nearly a year ago. They have no excuses. This is a disaster by their own making. I just hope they have learned something from this. Our country could and should do better.
I think I’m giving up on this log...it’s been a long year.

Days 355 - 364 of the “Lockdown”
March 28, 2021 - April 6, 2021
On the cusp of the year anniversary of the “lockdown”. Over these past few weeks, I received my first dose of the vaccine. Of course, I had side effects- my body ached (arms mainly, but also my chest area and one of my legs). The pain subsided in less than a day for my leg and chest and one of my arms, but one arm persisted to hurt, just not as bad. After two days, all the pain was gone.
I’m curious how my body will react to the second dose, as I’ve heard that the second dose has more extreme side effects than the first.

Days 348 - 354 of the “Lockdown”
On the eve of the eve of a one year anniversary of the “lockdown”.
I think I finally getting a vaccine, come Wednesday, at least the first dose. I am a little concerned, as I had my sister sign me up because I had no idea where or how to do so. This caused a bit of confusion, as we don’t live in the same county, but are in the same state.
I lived with her for about 9 months and moved to my current place one county over because restrictions on rent were too strict (have to make 3x+ the rent every month to qualify). So, instead I commute to work 40-45 minutes, a cost that instead could have went to rent. I work in the county where I am getting the vaccine, and I am considered an “essential worker”. However, when I try signing up on my own, my worker title is not listed as being part of the “essential worker” list. So, I’m part of the “essential worker” list to keep my business open and running at full capacity, but not for getting a vaccine? Odd.
My sister said for me to just bring a piece of mail from an official office, like a car registration or something from the IRS, which I have both. My driver’s license is from another state, so that may throw them off. Every time my license is about to expire, I happen to be living in my hometown, even if just temporarily. It also doesn’t expire for another 6 years...so, yeah.
I’m nervous about getting the vaccine, as I will have to leave work early on Wednesday to make the appointment and will miss Thursday, which I’m fine with. It should be quick, but with all of the unknowns, I’m a bit worried. I’m hoping I feel fine afterwards, as I’ve heard that the vaccine could be a bit draining on my body the day after.

Days 341 - 347 of the “Lockdown”
March 14, 2021 - March 20, 2021
There is talk how France is possibly going into another lockdown because of the U.K. variant that is possibly resistant to the developed vaccines. This would make it France’s third lockdown for this pandemic. However, I live in the U.S., where we really didn’t go into a lockdown. Yes, some got to stay home or remote learn and work, but many businesses stayed open because they were deemed “essential”. After long conversations with a lot of people, I have come to the conclusion that every business is “essential” in one form or another under our country’s policies. In addition, since they never closed or just restricted hours/days of operation, the pandemic still spread. It wasn’t as widespread as it could have been, but it still spread. For a while now, many are just burnt out of this semi-lockdown that was implemented and just want life to return to normal. They don’t care about the risks. They think getting a vaccine will solve the issue. Or at the very least, if enough other people get a vaccine, everyone else will be safe. This is concerning. Mind you, a poll was taken at work. More than 50% of respondents said they would not get vaccinated if it was offered. Another 20% said they were not sure. So, let’s say that the uncertain were split 50/50, this means that 60% would not get vaccinated. Thus, potentially spreading the virus around to each other or people in the communities unknowingly.
I’m anxious...I haven’t gotten vaccinated yet. I want to be, but even my mother says I shouldn’t. I won’t listen to her. I will get vaccinated, even if it is minimal protection, at least it is better than none.

Days 306 - 340 of the “Lockdown”
February 7, 2021 - March 13, 2021
This is bad...so bad... I’m way behind on my updates, as other things are taking up my time.
Before I get too far ahead of myself, we are still in the lockdown, as everything is not opened back up to its former glory. Uncertainty is still looming over many businesses and events. Vaccines are being spread, but I have yet to be vaccinated because of availability. I have friends getting their vaccines, and I’m a bit worried that I don’t have access to one yet. Why am I worried? Well, these friends work for a smaller production company (~5,000 employees). Yet, my company (~800,000 employees in the US alone and one of the wealthiest in the world), doesn’t have them yet.
We’re getting another stimulus payment- which I’m happy about. Though, this took way longer than what it should have. Also, (1,200 1st stimulus + 600 2nd stimulus + 1400 3rd stimulus = 3,200 / 365 days = 8.77/day or 0.37/hour) if given to people directly regardless of income. If instead the payment was linked to employment and included in hourly rates, the amount would be (3,200 / 52 weeks / 40 hours = 1.54/hours). It’s really sad that our government had a major issue issuing said stimulus to Americans. Furthermore, it’s also sad that businesses couldn’t also afford this, especially mine, considering that (800,000 employees * 3,200 supposed stimulus = 2,560,000,000). For those unaware, the company made more than 50 billion in the last year and put out nearly 5 billion to address COVID-19 by implementing social distancing, mask mandates, cleaning, and dealing with outbreaks by giving employees 2 weeks paid off and informing employees about the employee having it, while not specifying the employee directly or the work shift, just the building and usually weeks after the employee took their mandatory leave of absence. My company could have afforded it, but it feared that employees would not work for them or as much for them. Don’t get me started on the poor pay to begin with. This shows how far companies will go to try to subvert actual action to help employees and give a false narrative of a safe working environment. I stick with this company because it pays the bills...and I’m afraid that if I quit/leave/get fired, I won’t be able to get another job to pay the bills.

Days 277 - 305 of the “Lockdown”
January 9, 2021 - February 6, 2021
Backlogged so much, almost a month. I’m not going to waste the everyone’s time and space to go through almost 30 days of posts. I am depressed, anxious, busy, and nervous about the current situation. We bypassed the 300th day of the pandemic. Vaccines are still not available to everyone. More than 50% of my co-workers don’t want the vaccine when it comes out. This is scary. I really wish they were more responsible than this. As this has been a problem for months, with some calling it a hoax, claiming that they are immune, that masks and social distancing doesn’t work, and that the vaccine will do more harm than good.
We have a new side of governing body, democrats have taken control of the executive and congressional branches. We may finally see some massive change for the better, assuming they don’t get interrupted or civil war break out.
I’m hoping for the best at this point. We’re on course for the lockdown to last a year at this point. I know deaths have dropped, but if they reach back up to 5,000/day for the country, I will leave my job, stock up on food, and stay home. It’s not worth it. It’s not worth my health and life.

Day 276 of the “Lockdown”
January 8, 2020
I’m caught up.
I am concerned about two things right now:
1. Not everyone, not even half of my co-workers, wants to get the vaccine once available. The sooner everyone that can get the vaccine gets one, the sooner we can get out of this lockdown/pandemic.
2. Our country is still in civil unrest. Many denying that what transpired is our current president’s fault.
