8 Garage Remodel Ideas to Make Your Extra Space More Livable

Itching for a little extra room in your home? Wish you had some space for hosting home movie night, entertaining guests, or just soaking in some quiet time for yourself? A garage conversion might be just the thing. Transforming an extra garage space into a dedicated spot can be great for your family—and it can also boost your property’s value.
There are a few things to consider before sinking hours and cash into this home improvement project. Converting an extra garage space is ideal, but you can repurpose your primary garage if it makes sense for your living situation. However, most buyers expect a covered spot to house their wheels, so think twice about booting your car out of the garage.
“The garage is a valuable space for buyers; it’s right up there with an updated kitchen,” says Karen Gray-Plaisted of Design Solutions KGP.
Also, keep in mind that a renovation in the garage may affect HVAC systems or require special permitting.
Now that we have that out of the way, are you ready to make a big transformation? Get inspired by these eight ways people repurposed their garage.
1. Home office

Whether you’re starting your own business or managing a thriving Etsy shop, having a space for files, office supplies, and getting work done is essential. Consider built-in shelves for books and supplies, a chalkboard or whiteboard wall, colorful artwork to brighten the mood, and a comfortable seating area (if space allows for it).
2. Playroom

What better space to let kids frolic (and scream) than the garage? A durable floor is already in place for messy art projects and multiple yards of toy train tracks. Of course, you’ll fix it up right with a soft rug and oversize throw pillows for building forts.
“If you have several kids and host playdates, a playroom is a smart garage conversion,” says Alessandro Mannino, a home and neighborhood improvement expert with NeighborWho.
3. ‘She shed’

Another worthy garage conversion project is a private space to read, nap, or entertain your pals. The “she shed,” also known as the woman’s answer to a man cave, should be filled with things that make you or your best gal happy. Some people like to set theirs up like a spa with face masks, tea, and a comfy daybed. Others may choose to design it as a gamer’s paradise with a big-screen TV, storage cabinets to hold gaming consoles, and plenty of seating for you and your friends.
4. Game room

If your house doesn’t have the space for a game room, Mannino suggest putting it in your garage.
“You can set up video game consoles, a pool table, a flat-screen TV, or even a dedicated spot for board games for an epic space your family and guests can enjoy,” he says.
5. Crafting station

Painting, beading, sewing, and more can be accomplished in this converted space. A designated crafts room can also be the perfect place for a wrapping paper station. This idea is made user-friendly with the addition of a long counter on one of the garage walls. Consider a cork board above it or try chalk or magnetic paint so you can sketch ideas or pin up inspiration photos.
6. Guest suite

If you want to get the best return on your investment, an extra bedroom is probably your best bet for a garage transformation.
“Adding a proper bedroom may raise the value of your home since bedrooms are coveted by buyers,” says Jamie Novak, an organizing pro and author of “Keep This Toss That.”
A Murphy bed is a good option here as you can pop it shut when guests aren’t in town and use the room for entertaining.
7. Home gym

Why pay for a SoulCycle membership when you can get your heart rate up right at home? Install your rowing machine and bike station, and then open the door for some fresh air while you sweat. If there’s room, add a rack for free weights and a spot for stretching.
Not really a Peloton person? Cover the floor with rubbery tiles and a couple of yoga mats, and you’ll have your own space for quiet breathing and mediation. Consider setting up a way to play music here as well, whether it’s with built-in speakers or just a Bluetooth speaker.
8. Wine cellar

Amateur sommeliers might design a temperature-controlled space for special vintages, while pinot grigio swillers will build out storage racks and be done with it. Whichever camp you fall into, consider a bistro table and stools for when you host tastings.

shoutout to the point in my origins playthrough when i needed 10 more approval from zevran and didn’t have any gifts. my solution was having reese and him go at it 10 times so i could get that +1 approval until i hit the rating i needed.

Apparently Varric and Cassandra are always stored off screen whenever you enter the Hawke Estate, which is endlessly funny to me they’re just like. outside in a random building. They’re also stored separately from where the interrogation is actually happening, i assume they’re teleported in there during cutscenes.

the big black square is the interrogation room, there’s just the chair in there

there’s also a random barrel that exists outside the bounds of the house. i don’t know why its there. also the fireplaces are double sided instead of having a back. none of this information is useful but it is very fun to poke around and see whats going on out of bounds
