please tell me in the golden age au PEIP is like,,,, the justice league and like - xander and john try mercilessly to recruit paul as a big member of the team but hes just, too nice, and wants to have his black coffee in peace

Honestly, in my head PEIP was pretty much what they already are, with the notable difference that both John and Xander have superpowers that they Don’t Tell People About. They made a pact years ago that neither of them would sell out and join some “super people only” club, except that Xander actually did join whatever Justice League equivalent there is (probably because they needed help badly) and John found out five years later and was like “Xander.... [Jeff Blim Sigh] how the fuck could you do this to me.”

John meets Paul and is like oh thank god. Finally, a reasonable super-powered person. He keeps his cover so well and everything, how exemplary! Except Paul doesn’t.... have... a cover. That’s just like. His life. John keeps trying to engage with him as a superhero and Paul is just like “haha okay I have to go.... iron my cat now. Bye!” and flees. He hears the words “universal truth of love” and goes oh. Cult. And runs away.

Xander is in a book club with Paul. They exchanged phone numbers a year and a half ago. They routinely talk. John does not know this. There’s a running bet in PEIP about how long it’ll take him to find out. Schaffer is winning.
