-> he's so nervous about the whole thing.
-> he has no idea why he's so nervous because they're best friends. the bestest of best friends who almost spend every waking moment together. the two of them having known each other for a long while; but they've only just plucked up the courage to agree to a date with each other.
-> he wants the whole day to be perfect because he really likes yn and he really wants everything to work out between the two of them and he really wants to impress her with something out of the ordinary.
-> he meets her outside the museum because he didn't want to make it be known how excited he was to finally see her for their first date together, tickets held tightly in his hand, chewing on his bottom lip as he searches the faces that walk by him.
-> he's completely enamoured by her, as soon as he sees her walking up the steps to the entrance, unable to take his eyes away from her.
-> the weather is beautiful and he feels entirely underdressed when he sees her in such a gorgeous, autumnal outfit that he'd never seen her in before and rather liked to see her wearing; the colours complimenting her eyes and her skin so well.
-> he lets her lead the way the whole time; she's so excited to explore the whole museum and she loves how she gets to be with someone who wants to be there with her.
-> telling her interesting facts about the dinosaur bones they see, he throws around bits and pieces of information about the animals they see, he's full of knowledge on the insects they get to witness up close and personal, and he's so excited to take her around the space exhibit because he finds it the most interesting of all the museum has to offer them.
-> holding her close to his side when they experience the earthquake simulator.
-> holding her hand around the whole place and making idle chat as they go from room to room, never knowing what to expect next, and he loves to watch her eyes glow as she takes in her surroundings whenever they walk around the corner.
-> standing behind her when they come to a stop and holding her waist as they read the information panels ahead of each exhibit they come across. enjoying the silence as they take in the words before they start up a conversation about whatever had peaked an interest.
-> they know people recognise them (moreso, they recognise arthur) but neither of them care because he feels like the two of them are the only people in the world as they spend the afternoon in a place he's longed to take a significant other on a first date and he can't help but grin the whole time because it's finally happening.
-> and neither of them want the date to end and decide to go for some dinner and a few drinks to end the afternoon.
-> bumping into george clarke on the tube home and arthur can't help but gush over how well the date went and how good the museum was and yn just sits there and lets him talk and talk because there's something to endearing about seeing the guy she likes just being so happy in the moment.
-> and the night ends back at his flat.
-> wearing one of his jumpers and stretched over the sofa and tucked under a blanket, her knees brought to her chest and his arm over her shoulder, their restaurant dinner in takeaway boxes and left on his coffee table as they went back to pick at their leftovers, as they watch a film that he had been begging her to watch for a while.
-> soft kisses being shared, cuddles getting tighter and nothing more; taking it slow was how they wanted things to go, slow enough to enjoy every moment happening between the two of them.

Omg your tags made me think again about that awful 5x10. For me it was already too much time they spent on b/t and their pursuit for gifts, but if it was a way to show how little they knew each other it was fine, but nope they as usual had to exagerate and give us that useless scene about the exange of presents, what was the point? Why they did show us that?
Not me seeing this hit my inbox and going "so true bestie! Those tags were great!" and then sitting on this for weeks until I forgot what tags they were about 🙄 Love this brain for me.
ANYWAY
Unpopular opinion, but 5x10 is actually one of the few bt moments I think was important to see. We needed zero backstory for her or to see her "investigating" anything. That was all pointless nonsense that no one is going to care to re-watch when she's gone from the show forever because it added NOTHING to the overall storyline. Every scene with Ana or Shannon was about Eddie and was important to see for his and for Christopher's stories. Because that's what she was there for! We knew next to nothing about Ali aside from her story in the earthquake episodes, and her scenes were all about growth for Buck. Taylor's original appearance was for *drama* reasons, but her coming back in 2x08 (despite not making sense because Buck would never, actually. Not after what she wanted to do to Bobby) was to show Buck starting to regress, and then decide that he didn't want to be that person. (I'm mostly leaving Abby out of this because she was a main character in season 1, so she had her own scenes to inform her character. But when she made her appearance in season 3, her scenes were all about letting us know where she was in relation to Buck ("they stopped waiting for me a long time ago"), and everything from then on was about how her being there and having a fiancé affected Buck.)
Her popping back up in season 4 originally didn't bother me as much (mostly because it had been some time since early season 2 and I'd sort of blocked out how awful she was), and it looked like she was just going to be around again to show Buck's growth away from that person he used to be, and as someone for Buck to hang with now that Eddie had a gf, which we got to see kind of making Eddie a bit jealous. Which was fun! But the moment she kissed Buck in 4x14 it instantly became a 🙄🙄🙄🙄 "oh she was here for relationship purposes" thing. (Which again, does not make sense and I'm eternally biter we didn't get to see Athena's thoughts on allowing that woman anywhere near her home and Bobby.) I honestly don't think she would have been as hated by 5x10 though if she had gotten the Ana treatment and we continued to only see her in a few moments with Buck that were about informing his character, however not only was she just...everywhere when she didn't need to be, but we had to sit back and watch as Buck looked more and more rundown after every interaction, as he tentatively tried to open up and was immediately shut down and told his feelings weren't valid, as he quit having scenes with other characters and started mostly having all his scenes with her. It was unbearable and while it might have been purposeful, they could have achieved the same effect without focusing any time on her and her "sob" story that only served to make her look even worse.
I've gotten off track here a bit, but the point is, that we needed to see how completely out of sync they are, and the show has actually done an amazing job showing that since she came back in season 4 (forever cackling about her flat out telling Buck they made a terrible team because she's right and they are utterly unsuited for each other), culminating in the Christmas episode. You cannot tell me that Buck is bad at giving gifts because I won't believe you. That man loves so loudly and takes such an interest in the lives of the people he loves. He has a useful, thoughtful, heartfelt gift for anyone in the firefam and their immediate family ready on the tip of his tongue, so showing him having ZERO idea what to get his gf of like, at least 6 months?! Who is basically living with him? Unparalleled comedy in my opinion. Also, Buck is so open and curious about everything and that woman couldn't think of anything better than a sweater?! Not an interesting book (maybe about firefighting or natural disasters or weird facts), or a cool puzzle box, or murder mystery game (like a To Hunt A Killer box), or a trip to some cool exhibit, or literally anything else but clothes? And the fact that we saw Buck telling her he loved a gift he hadn't even seen because it was something SHE picked out for him (😭 baby boy I am begging you to get some higher standards), while we saw her disgust and distaste of his gift even though it makes perfect sense given that he has nearly lost everyone close to him at one point or another? Seeing that she instantly thinks that it's a way to "track" her, highlighting the lack of trust in their relationship?
I mean, by 5x10 I was absolutely sick of her and would happily have seen literally anything else at all, BUT I do think of all the scenes over the season, the ones in 5x10 were actually the ones we needed, and had they not given us the Ghost Stories debacle, and had we not just suffered through her scenes ruining a perfectly fun and otherwise delightful 5x09, I think the 5x10 stuff would have been better received for what it was. As it is, we are all BYOND ready for her to leave, and I've already got the champagne chilling on ice to celebrate when it happens.
