The duo are back together. I'm starting to evaluate what needs to be done on the #Akamame86 so she can weather regular use when being restored. I'm likely going to wrap the car to protect the chassis exterior for now, while I work on all the mechanical bits. Once I've repaired or replaced all I can, and it comes time to strip the car down to restore the engine bay, suspension and interior, I'll then likely focus on paint. For now, let's get her safe and clean so sun, heat and use don't do damage anymore. Also, my valve cover says "Toy" instead of "Toyota" and I'm only just now noticing this. 😂 I need to source a replacement blue top cover. Engine refresh is likely happening soon, with a few new parts i.e. exhaust manifold and exhaust, then a good scrubbing of the suspension with new bushings, and 2 small rust spots being welded to ensure any cancer doesn't spread, then get on some new wheels. So, we're starting here with the #Akamame86 The rust in the trunk at the strut towers is being cut, welded, patched and painted in 2 weeks; a paint shop has been contacted so we can correct the paint, then put on some proper clear coat to protect the chassis while we work on all the mechanical and interior; The car needs tint to better protect the interior; she needs new weather stripping, bushings, hoses and belts. And a valve cover that actually says "Toyota" on it. I've contacted an engine shop I wish to remain nameless for now, but something special is being considered for the engine. I need to find an interior shop to reupholster a good chunk of the car when we strip inside to weld. I'll probably have the Supra Celica wheels stripped then powder coated until I decide if I want Works or Watanabe wheels. I'll be honest: there's a whole lot that needs to get done, and a lot that is going to get done, in the next 12 months. I hope you stick around for the ride... #NaturallyAspirated . . . . Thank you @icefabrication for the grounding kit. Since it was installed, all revving fluctuations have disappeared, and I see a consistent 0.5-1.0v increase in power, no matter how little or how hard I push the motor. This ended up being proven on track last weekend. I'm confident this is helping get cleaner electricity to the @ignition_projects_usa Plasma Coils precisely firing my #ngkracing spark plugs, which by extension should help with more consistent timing, especially in the higher RPM ranges. As a computer engineer, we learn that systems operate best when they have the cleanest power to them, which means less noise in the electricity; that buzzing sound you hear from florescent lights? That's that's generally attributed to poor grounding. For lights, it matters little. For sensitive electronics or in this case, ECUs and electronic ignition timing systems with electronic plasma coils, it can make a real big difference the harder you push a motor. Precision matters. The grounding kit was lined and zip tied with @designenginc Easy-Loom for heat and flame resistance to ensure nothing happens to the rubber wiring.
