Yesterday, on October 24, 2023, Israel's plans to expel Gaza's Palestinian population to Sinai, Egypt were leaked. Not surprisingly, this plan has a decades long history and dates to at least 2004, if not earlier. (Source)

In May 2023, 178 Palestinian Bedouins were forced out of Ein Samiya (West Bank) after Israel repeatedly demolished their homes, threatened to destroy their only school & after their grazing land was taken by settlement expansion & b/c of settler violence: [Link]

In July 2022, the 100-person community in Ras a-Tin (WB) was pushed after a Jewish settler outpost was established 2km away. Since then, members of the Palestinian community have suffered from verbal abuse, harassment, theft & vandalism of property. [Link]

Between Aug 2022- August 2023, the 88-person community in al-Qabun was pushed out by Israeli Jewish settler violence & assaults by the Israeli army. [Link]

In July 2020, Israel made 70 Palestinians homeless in Khirbet Humsa for the 6th time. Israeli forces loaded the residents' personal belongings and dropped them off 7 miles away. [Link]

In 2019, 2 groups of Palestinian families near the Taybeh junction were pushed out:

Between June 1967 - 2016, Israel revoked the residency status--and thus the right to live in Jerusalem (or anywhere else in Israel) -- of at least 14,595 Palestinians from East Jerusalem in what amounts to "forcible transfers," according to @hrw. (Source)

YOU USED TO SCANLATE???? AND KOREAN AT THAT??? ive always wanted to know how scanlating works can you tell us more about it? behind the scenes scanlation? and if youre okay with it, which novel/manga/manhwa/manhua did you scanlate please!!!!

ah, yes. my good old scanlating days. take a shot every time i say ‘normally’ and ‘usually’.

a quick glossary:

scanlating – lit. “scan + translating”! this term is applied to, most commonly, manga but of course, generally applies to fan-made scanning, translating, and redrawing without the permission of the original poster. they are most definitely not official.

raw provider – someone, as their name states, sends the ‘raw’ or untranslated copy of a certain series.

translator – self-explanatory! they can either be fluent on the language they are translating or are just very skillful in using google translate / translating apps. it would be best if they have background on the language and very meticulous in their translating.

redrawer – for manga / manhua / manhwa, they fix the sfx and the speech bubbles where the text will be replaced. it’s optional to get rid of the sfx though, but other scanlating groups usually expect the redrawer to do that unless stated otherwise.

typesetter – they basically input the text into the manga / manhua / manhwa from the translated text. if your scanlation group has a website, they usually also type the translated text into the official website too.

proofreader – self-explanatory again! after the translator (if it’s not a novel: then after the redrawer and the typesetter too), they make sure the grammar is correct, there are no typos, or things that shouldn’t be there.

so the process is usually first, acquire some raws. if it’s just korean novels, you can easily get it from kakao page itself since they’re free > screenshot each page > manually scan the page through your chosen translation app > edit the text to fix the grammar. here’s a link where it goes in-detail on how to translate korean novels on your own: link.

it’s really as easy as that! if you have a scanlation group, it gets a lot easier though. they usually send you a google drive file where the chapters are organized with respective folders for each chapter labeled whether they are raws or not, already translated or not, etc. you normally translate with other translators to speed up the process! the file they use are google docs for easy access.

the manga / manhwa / manhua scanlation gets more complicated, especially if you’re involved in a scanlation group. like novels, they send you a google drive containing the chapters from the raw provider. and then, you’re going to write out the translation in a google doc. about this:

depending on your scanlation group, they will probably provide you with color-coding to identify which character is talking or not. i pestered a lot about the formatting before realizing i’m better off with novels, tbh.

when i roped my friend to scanlating though, i added the translation by inserting a comment on the panel where it's supposed to be and yes, it’s still in google drive.

the schedule of the scanlation gets really tough sometimes ngl, especially if you’re not fluent. and back then, i was translating a korean novel not a japanese one 💀 i had no idea what i was thinking. it takes a lot of time to translate manually and to make sure you translated well and kudos to me, i did!

it’s especially tough for redrawers and when i redrew a couple of chapters back then, including the sfx, i literally died. i took me a whole day in general to redraw one chapter. i suggest not to redraw even the sfx good lord. but it was fun!

i unfortunately don’t want to say which novel i translated because it was relatively popular and we got called out by the author... so let’s not do that anymore. as for the manhwa we were translating, it was supposed to be finally, the blue flame but someone got to use first so yeah... it was fun though. great for experience! and as for the manhwa that actually got out, i also can’t say because it got really popular!

i’m thinking of scanlating isekai mynoghra tbh. i have a copy of some raws so i thought of just winging it. and yes, i have lots of free time.
