Chapter 21

Somewhere middle of the night, I felt Ye Hua rolled to the other side suppressing his cough. He did that a few times, till he had to get up and ran to the door. Coughing badly outside, I heard him spitting blood. I sat up, wanting to go out but I knew he didn’t wanted me to worry. He climbed back to bed after a while smelling of blood and I held back my tears as much as I could. I decided to turn around and hug him like I always do, pretending nothing was wrong. But my heart is hurting badly..

“You’re awake?” - he asked when I opened my eyes and saw him staring at me.

“Did you sleep well?” - I asked him, praying hard that he had better sleep after what happened.

“I definitely slept well with you by my side..” - he smiled.

“I miss Riceball. Where did he go?” - I asked, snuggling closer to him.

“There is an assembly at Scared Mountain. Lord of Numinous Treasure is there as a speaker. Cheng Yu has taken A-Li there for some fun. I’ve send Jia Yun there to fetch them. He should be back soon”

“Riceball is still so young. Aren’t you afraid that he’ll be bored?”

“A-Li only went there for the sugar cane. Besides, Cheng Yu is there with him. Do you think he’ll be bored?”

“Hmm.. You know, I’m really proud that you’re A-Li’s father”

“Why do you say that?”

“You sent him to Scared Mountain so that he won’t get to see you so badly injured. You didn’t sent him to me either, because you didn’t want me to worry about you”

“I.. have been A-Li’s father and mother for so long. The only thing I’m afraid of is seeing him cry”

“Ye Hua?”

“Yes?” - he hugged me closer.

“Promise me you’ll never hide anything from me from now on. As for A-Li, I’m sorry I said some hurtful things to you the other time. I never meant it. I love him so much.. so much more now that I can hold him in my arms”

“I know. I promise you. No more secrets” - he kissed my forehead.

Down at the Lotus Pond while waiting for A-Li to come back (took him long enough!), Ye Hua was drawing a tactical plan with his left hand.

“Ye Hua.. I can’t understand your tactical formation strategies at all..” - I said to him while grinding the ink pad for him.

He turned and grin at me.

“When I was studying at Kulun, tactical formation strategies is just least favourite subject. My head now hurts at the sight of it. My body hurts all over too” - I complained to him.

He laughed. “Then why are you still sitting there so seriously?”

“I.. I was worried that you might not be able to hold your brush well. Now that I see you holding it so well, I can’t help but to take a longer look at you. I want to spend a longer time with you, making up for all the time we lost”

“Mother!” - A-Li’s voice broke our gaze.

Finally!

“My Riceball is back!” - I said happily, wanting to help him with his stuff. “He’s holding so many things on his own”

Ye Hua stopped me. “Let him do it”

I sat back down. Other then the first time we had an argument about A-Li, this is the first time we are going thru parenting stage together. Cheng Yu helped him instead.

“Mother! Mother!”

“Riceball, you’re home. How was your trip?”

“Cheng Yu, this is my mother. Isn’t my mother very pretty?” - he asked proudly.

“So.. this is Lady Cheng Yu that dares to go against her superiors?” - I asked, smiling at her.

“Your Highness.. can I.. touch Her Highness?” - she asked Ye Hua.

“My mother belongs to my father. Only my father can touch her. Why do you want to touch her?” - A-Li defended me.

We laughed. I never expected A-Li to say that!

“All these years, this is the first time I’m meeting a High Goddess. Why can’t I touch her?”- she whined at A-Li.

Ye Hua cleared his throat. “You are now teasing my wife right in front of me. Cheng Yu, you’re getting even bolder”

“Your Highness is so petty”

“Cheng Yu, why not one day we have tea together and chat? I have a lot to ask you” - I suggested to her.

“Really, Your Highness?” - she asked happily.

“Yes”

“Great! Then I take my leave first” - she bow and left.

“A-Li, what’s that that you brought back?” - Ye Hua asked him, even he was the one who send him to Scared Mountain.

“These are sugar cane that I harvest from Scared Mountain” - he explained, showing us proudly the sugar canes he brought.

“A-Li is the best. Come here” - Ye Hua pulled him for a bear hug.

“When Jia Yu came to fetch me, he keeps reminding me that father’s right hand is injured badly and I mustn’t ask for hugs. Father, does your arms still hurts?”

“It’s not. I can still hold you with one arm” - Ye Hua said and twirl him around.

I looked at both of them. They were laughing happily. I wondered what I was really thinking all those years staying away from them. But now with them, I’m complete. My life is finally complete.

“Ye Hua.. be careful..”

“Don’t worry. Sometime soon, I’ll be able to feel my right arm again”

“I know that your arm will recover soon”

“Here A-Li. Should we bored your Mother with more tactical plans or we should draw something?”

“Draw!”

“Okay. Go sitting on the opposite side with your Mother. I’ll draw the both of you”

I smiled at both of them. “Come, Riceball. Let’s go sit on the other side” - I held out my hand for him.

We settled down comfortably and Ye Hua took his time to draw. In the end, A-Li fell asleep on my lap. Despite my protest, Ye Hua insisted to carry him back personally to Qingyun Hall and tucked him to bed. Leaning on Ye Hua, we stood there for a very long time watching A-Li while he sleep. Then suddenly, without notice he carried me.

“Ye Hua! What are you doing? Put me down” - I protest, asking him to let me down.

He turned a deaf ear and kept that way till we arrived at Zichen Hall. He send the maids away and let me down on the bed.

“Ye Hua.. wh..”

He inched forward, forcing me backwards, smiling wickedly, wanting a kiss. I stopped him.

“What is it?” - he asked, coming forward for a kiss.

“There is something I want to talk to you about”

He rolled over and lay beside me. “Qian Qian, why is that you have something to discuss now?”

“There is something important that I want to discuss with you..” - I rolled on my stomach to face him.

“Do you still remember, when we were at the West Sea.. and that slap I gave you?”

He gave me a questioning look. “Yes.. I remember..”

I rested my head on his chest. “I’m really sorry I did that. When you asked if you had a place in my heart, I wanted to yell and tell the whole world how much I love you. When you said that I waited for Shifu for 70,000 years, I wanted to tell you that I waited for you when I was a mortal.. when I was forced to Nine Heavens.. I still waited patiently for you..”

“Qian Qian.. I..” - he wanted to say something but I touch his lips to stopped him.

“Ye Hua.. these past years has been long and difficult for both of us. I don’t want to wait anymore. While I was bored at West Sea, I looked into the auspicious dates. Second of September is a good date for weddings and constructions. In fact, it’s a good day for everything”

I got up and look at him. “Why not you tell Grandfather that we will get married on that day?”

Ye Hua is about to burst in tears.

“What did you just say?” - he asked, caressing my cheek.

Did he not heard me?

“I know it might not be proper to say that. It’s not ideal for you to bring it up too. Perhaps.. I can ask my parents to suggest the date on our behalf? After all, marriage is an important matter. It’s best for the elderly to discuss it”

“Qian Qian.. say it again. What is it that you want to do with me?” - he asked disbelieve with tears rolling down his cheeks.

I wiped his tears. “Ye Hua.. I love you. I really love you. I know we are married, but to the Celestial Palace, that doesn’t count. Let’s get married for real this time”

He didn’t bother to reply. He kissed me passionately.

In between kisses and out of breath, he asked. “Qian Qian.. give me another child..”
