For oc asks, how about Pholso? I first learned about him in your oc poll, and he seems like a very cool person and a good dad. What happened that caused him to leave his kingdom and title of King? I'm guessing it had to do with the death of his wife - did he leave to protect his daughter from the same fate? To leave off with something a bit lighter, does he have any hobbies or favourite activities? I hope work gets less 'oof' for you soon!

Thank you for the ask and the luck!! To give a summary of Pholso's backstory, I'll also need to explain Nerium and Seraphina. TW for abuse mention and kidnapping (although short):

Nerium (luna moth) was my first ever HK oc. She was made to be a crime moth, which was a term a bunch of friends used for "moth that is just horrible". Initially, she was introduced as an elite assassin who was the co-operator of a guild that trained assassins, but to the friend group, she was known as Revek's mentor and abuser. She kidnapped him from his home due to the guild lacking spiders, and was the one to personally mentor him. TLDR, she was made to be horrible and her actions will show such.

Seraphina, on the other hand, was introduced in a random fic I did when giving Revek backstory. Current day Seraphina is the empress of the Khivell Empire, but she and Nerium used to know one another. They moved to the kingdom together when Pholso's wife (who is never named) was still queen. At the time, she was married to another moth, who eventually passed away (she remarried to Pholso laster). The queen had a son, a promethea moth named Prism, and Seraphina fell in love with him. It is important to note that this prince is not Pholso's, and the two didn't have a relationship as per Prism's request. Anyways, Seraphina married into the family with eyes on the throne while Nerium worked for money. Nerium was sorely mistreated, and when it was brought to Seraphina's attention, it went ignored.

Now onto Pholso's. TW for assassination/assassination attempts and death mentions

He was the ruler of the Khivell Empire, one of my kingdoms. The kingdom was a monarchy, so he was born into it. His wife was a satyr butterfly, and the two had a kid, Lumi, who was a spotted peppergrass moth. Lumi grew up pretty well; her parents ensured they were never neglecting her. Pholso loved his wife and kid dearly.

A year later, Seraphina grew very power hungry. She went to Nerium and together, the two plotted to kill the monarchy, with Nerium wanting revenge on those who blatantly watched her be mistreated (or so she thought; none of the monarchy ever knew of it). Pholso's wife was assassinated in the night, but Pholso and Lumi escaped the attempt. Despite the grief, the two decided together to remain in the kingdom to see the killers brought to justice. Some time later, evidence surfaced and pointed to Seraphina and Nerium. Desperate to save her skin and position, Seraphina solely blamed Nerium. At the time, Pholso was not making the decisions; Prism was taking up that role in order for Pholso to grieve the loss of his wife. Prism, manipulated by Seraphina, sentenced Nerium to die.

The day of the execution, Nerium and Pholso had a short conversation regarding the killing. Nerium revealed to him that she did kill his wife, but also showed evidence of Seraphina also being in cahoots with her. Pholso didn't believe her at first, but realized it was true and decided to overrule the execution. His plans to have the two thrown in prison and put on trial never came to fruition: Nerium broke out before it could be announced. She managed to stab Prism and tear out his heart, done in front of everyone. In a rage fueled by bloodlust, she tried to kill Seraphina next, but Pholso stopped her. He allowed Nerium to flee, and, without naming a successor, resigned his position, took Lumi, and left. Serpahina took over shortly after and is still ruling now.

Pholso currently lives in Hallownest with another friend's oc, happily married to them, working as a rescue service to make money, even though he and his partner still have the riches from his monarchy. Lumi lives in another kingdom, but I've not decided what she's doing yet. Nerium was adopted by a Wyrm after fleeing, and the two built the Asesino Passel, the assassin guild that Revek is later forced into.

As for hobbies/activities, he's a very nature-y guy! He loves admiring the scenery! He is very, very fluffy; his fluff makes up about 45% of his body weight. Because of this, he takes great care in grooming himself. He also tailors, since the spots on the back of his wings can disorient other bugs. Because of that, he makes custom robes/kimonos for himself. He also bakes a bit, since his partner is a baker, but only sparsely.
