     “clearly you need to have someone around that is as talented as i am in the magical arts.” of course loki knew who wanda was. and of course, there had been the stories that they had become privy to while attempting to catch up with all they had missed in their untimely demise. not that loki enjoyed thinking about that particular subject matter if it could be helped. that was why they were back in this time, wasn’t it?? to rewrite the future, to do something different this time around. “i’d be more than willing to teach you a few things, if you’re interested. i’ve had quite a few centuries to perfect my own art form.”

being a mutant, laurie could understand a lot of supernatural happenings in this city. while yeah, it was frustrating that the subway wasn’t running due to a “mutant-related electrical issue,” she hoped whoever had caused it was alright, rather than being angry at them about it. the same couldn’t be said for others, the crowd growing more and more impatient and angry by the minute, some even resorting to threats. it was the first time she’d intentionally used her powers since coming here, trying to just calm those around her, despite not feeling very calm herself. it didn’t entirely work, but the realization of what she’d done left her filled with shame, and she quickly made her way up the stairs, hoping no one would catch on. of course, someone was approaching right as she reached the top. “don’t even bother going down there,” laurie warned before realizing that might have sounded rude. “s-sorry. i just meant that, um, the trains aren’t running right now. they’re not gonna be back up for a while.”

    even now, steve could still barley process the fact that tony was here. alive and well. after watching the sacrifice that had been made -- after the funeral, it still hadn’t settled in that the other man was gone from this world. that earth had lost one of its greatest defenders, and the man that he had blundered every single chance with no matter how many chances they had received over the years. every single time steve had shied away from it, or there had been far too many important things to focus on than the feelings that he had kept locked up for too long now. there had always been a maybe next time that had become a trend until that fateful day. no more chances, no more opportunities. he’d lost his chance for good, steve had thought. 

   somehow, someway, he’d been given a second chance to amend the mistakes he had made for years in his silence. always looking whenever he felt that tony wouldn’t notice, always brushing off the flirting that transpired between them as something that was just the norm for tony. for a man that was known to be a risk taker and throw caution to the wind in battle and on missions, he could be a damn coward whenever it came to his own feelings.

   now, settled atop one of the counters in stark’s lab, he could barley keep his eyes away from the man. tracking every single step, tracking every little movement that was made and relishing in the fact that tony was here, and he was alive. it made his heart both ache and swell, a bittersweet smile on his lips. “so, you going to tell me exactly what you’re working on here, or am i going to have to talk your ear off while you work??” he questioned, a fondness in his voice for one of his closest friends on this planet. “what’s it going to take to get your whole attention if i said we should -- talk??”

The world was very different and even more chaotic now, and Peggy had a lot to research, so there was no time lose in in reminiscence. The new dangers were as urgent as they were absurd to her, but she had learned long ago that the bizarre is far from impossible. Still, as she walked through Brooklyn, she couldn’t help but feel some comfort at the sight of the Brooklyn Bridge, which hadn’t changed a bit. Completely solid and much older than Peggy herself, the bridge brought plenty of memories. She was so taken back by those thoughts that she doubted herself when she noticed another familiar sight across the street, but one much more impossible. 

She crossed the street in a second, stopping right in front of him, placing a hand on his right shoulder so she could take a good look at that face she knew was long gone. He was dead, fallen from that train in a way that no man could survive - and yet, here he stood. “I could say my eyes are betraying me, but I would rather believe the miracle, Sargent Barnes.” Afraid her voice would break if she said much more, she pulled him into a tight hug, letting go a moment after. “It is good to see you alive, Bucky.” She had a lot to ask him, but the most important thing to say was just that.

while new york city was no gotham, the skyline of the city at night was something that always brought her comfort. long before she’d found a family among the bats, and long before she’d become a hero, looking down at the city from above was always there to welcome them like an old friend. legs dangling off the edge, they heard footsteps that sounded too close, the vigilante took a guess that they weren’t alone.  “this rooftop is occupied.”

𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐕𝐄 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐊𝐄𝐏𝐓 𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐄, albeit without the attire that garnered attention that could rival the iron man suit, but still, he came. tucked away amongst the crowds with the brim of his navy baseball cap pulled down just above his eyes, steve maneuvered through the group cheering for ‘ 𝐈𝐑𝐎𝐍 𝐌𝐀𝐍 ! ’ in unison. high pitched acknowledgments of awe, children dressed up as their favorite hero and the pushy fans with outstretched hands just attempting to reach tony were some of the contenders steve had to face as he passed a girl willing thor’s arrival into existence as she shouted for the blond god. at least she has good taste. 

but it might have been his own manners that becames steve’s downfall that afternoon in the crowd. stood in the back, he watched tony go on with a self-serving speech, that type that miraculously could further inflate the playboys own ego; who knew that was even possible. a high pitched giggle had pulled steve’s gaze away from the stage and towards the ground as a group of three children ran past him, all dressed in oversized costumes of iron man, captain america and spiderman. it should be noted the child dressed as cap held onto a plastic toy replica of 𝐌𝐉𝐎𝐋𝐍𝐈𝐑, someone was ahead of their time. 

but as the blond super soldier stepped back to accommodate for the path of miniature heroes he had stood in, steve stepped back on a woman’s foot. a quick turn and hand to her shoulder to keep her from stumbling back accompanied by the words, “  i’m sorry, ma’am,  ”  weren’t all too common. though bets could be made the dead giveaway was the way she was starring at steve. “  ma’am ?  “

WHO: peter @ofcomplexities​ WHERE: the rooftop of harry’s apartment building

to say harry was excited was an understatement. he’d nearly blown the surprise a million times before this, wanting to share his latest project with peter from the moment he’d thought of it. but he decided he wanted to make it perfect before he even dared to show his best friend, and though there were a few pieces that needed fine-tuning, harry physically couldn’t wait any longer. he covered peter’s eyes as they climbed the final flight of stairs to the rooftop, feeling the midday sun greet them as it watched the scene unfold from above. “okay, are you ready?” harry asked, leading him the final few steps forward. “open your eyes!” before peter stood a smaller white room atop this building with a metal door, marked with the oscorp logo and harry’s own name below it. since he got sucked back in time and decided he had more time to conduct his research, he’d been working on constructing his mobile lab, and peter would be the first to see it. “pretty cool, right?”
