i am so sorry to just jump into your ask box like this with a personal headcanon of mine, but your post about floyd's opinion on azul's physical abilities got my brain thunking and i have a mouth and i must scream

i need to preface that i'm not a fish biologist (but i do know a thing or two about human biology,,)

my personal headcanon is that, azul's heart rate (40-50bpm), much like an octopus, is slower than other people (to put in perspective, humans have a heart rate of 60-100bpm, and any lower is cause for concern). on top of that, just like (some) octopus, his heart just straight-up???? 😭 stops beating 😭😭 when he does intense physical exercise.

another headcanon is that, azul's blood contains hemocyanin instead of hemoglobin. which doesn't transport oxygen as efficiently.

so like, it would make sense that his stamina/endurance is shite because he can't rlly? sustainably run very fast otherwise it will be bad news very fast 😔

p.s. personally, i feel like, it's not so much that azul's strength went "poof" when he assumed human form, and it's more like... he has bones now. KLSDJFKLSD i would assume that an octopus is very muscular because it's an invertebrate, and it has to move somehow (again, not a fish biologist hahahaha).

but now he has human bone structure (at least new ones in his lower half)! and so the musculature of his cephalopod arms sort of, reformed, to be more human to accommodate his now human bones. also i would hope his grip is strong in his octo form, i doubt the suckers on his other arms are for decoration...

tldr; azul's strength in human form being retained is up to personal interpretation, but i hc that his stamina is pathetic because his blood is trash at transporting oxygen, and also his heart literally threatens to stop if he runs too much or too fast.

but also lmao look at me trying to applying real life biology to a fantasy-genre world like twisted wonderland of all things 😂 i just think it would just be so funny that azul is pathetic at pe (and i say all of this as (unfortunately) an azul enjoyer)

n what you said abt his strength in human form is very true ! i was also contemplating the lack of bones his octo-arms would have, so maybe he isn't as strong as he is in the ocean, BUT he does have muscles that are more catered towards a human's needs. aka he could beat ppl at arm wrestling, probably.

no but i find myself researching about moray eels n lions when i'm writing about the twst boys T^T like damn, my search history is looking like i work at a zoo or as an animal researcher *cries* and azul being pathetic at pe is real, can confirm i see him struggling every time i make him do flying lessons-
