"both sides of shipcourse are wrong" says person about to not bat a fucking eye when someone on one side gets chased off the fucking internet and doxxed and told they deserve assault for liking ships that are abusive in a way they dont immediately understand/relate to. "shipping discourse is just sooo dumb and immature" says person about to fucking gasp and scream and tell all their mutuals and post "STOP putting ***** on my dash in 202_" vagues like A Gross Drawing Existing In The World is going to singlehandedly groom and traumatize and enable and Normalize everything for everyone on the planet simultaneously for simply being put out there and it being out there is a category 10000 mental safety hazard that they must bravely defend people from. "youre stupid if you care about ship discourse lmao" posts brave tumblr user about to get really upset publically over One person they saw shipping a like, 4-year age gap between two fictional chars that's there if you Squint, an opinion that Clearly has NOTHING to do with very specifically one side of the discourse

I'm pretty new to the sw tumblr fandom, would you mind telling me what the pro/anti jedi "discourse" is about? absolutely understand if you don't have the time for that of course haha
Hi! Oh, I’ve tried like five separate times to write a short summary of What Jedi Discourse Is About, but it’s hard for me to put into a nutshell, because I really want to try to be fair and objective, but also I have experienced a lot of shit in this fandom and I’ve lost a lot of patience for it.  (This is not aimed at you!  This message was totally fine, I’m just still disgusted with some people’s behaviors towards other fans..) As short as I can make it:  While people run the gamut from “the Jedi were monsters and a cult and they hated Anakin and it was their fault he fell and Order 66 was totally deserved” to “well, the Jedi were pretty awful, but the babies didn’t deserve to be murdered, I guess” to “the Jedi did some things wrong and some things right” to “the Jedi were right and their decisions were understandable because there just weren’t any good choices”, and many people are incredibly insufferable about it along the way, whether anti-, neutral-, or pro-, as all subsections of fandom are, and there is a very common tendency for pro-Jedi fans to get bombarded with people trying to argue with them. (There was a time when I literally could not make one single post about the Jedi without someone trying to tell me how wrong I was.  This is why my anon is off and why I block when people are only here to argue.  Things are calmer now, but sometimes people still get a bug up their ass and won’t leave us alone--sometimes for literally A YEAR they’ll keep badgering someone.) The discourse is usually centered around the definition of “attachment”, whether or not the Jedi were a cult, the idea that the Jedi suppress emotions, the Jedi were baby thieves, the Jedi were totally cool with slavery, the Jedi were corrupt and stagnant and bad for being drafted into the war, the Jedi were super mean to Anakin and it’s their fault he fell, the Jedi weren’t blood families so they don’t really count as family, the Jedi kiiiiiiinda deserved their own genocide because they weren’t nice enough, etc. There are plenty of people who are chill about their Jedi criticisms and I usually get along pretty well with them (babes, this post isn’t about you guys, I promise), but there are a LOT of people whose behavior is fucking atrocious towards pro-Jedi fans and that has kind of poisoned the water between us in a lot of ways, so when we’re talking about the shitty behavior in fandom, it’s about the people who just will not leave us alone or who constantly feel the need to come yell at us on our posts. Basically, it’s about a lot of different issues (I feel like if I listed them all, it’d just be starting things up again), usually centered on whether or not the Jedi were emotionally healthy, whether or not they were corrupt for fighting in the war, and whether or not they were responsible for Anakin’s choices.  Pro-Jedi fans feel that Lucas’ commentary is very “the Jedi are right about the Force and they really didn’t have any better options about joining the war and Anakin’s fall is his own fucking fault” and that a lot of criticisms the Jedi get are bad faith, unsupported by the actual source material, or outright racist because of their Buddhist influences and that much of what gets criticized is those Buddhist origins. But it’s a complex, many-tentacled issue, so that’s the best overview I can give, as well as, you know, I am pro-Jedi so my experiences are from the pro-Jedi side, I register these things far stronger than someone who has a different experience!

🪱 and 𔘓 made some GREAT horny posts so I'm here to cleanse this space a bit by telling you some of my random fluffy hcs of fedya
- when he has time he loves playing games with you (cards, chess, tabletop games...) cause even tho he knows that he's going to win everytime, he finds it amusing to see all the ways you desperately try and fail to outsmart him, he doesn't say it but he thinks you look adorable when your face has that subtle evil smirk to it because you're absolutely positive that this time you're going to beat him, only to be huffing out in defeat a minute later
- to cheer you up after beating you for the millionth time he's going to lightly praise you by saying that the strategy you came up with was good and that he had fun thinking of a way to counterattack it (even tho it was super easy for him but he won't say it cause he's trying to make you happy)
- again he won't outright admit it but it's obvious that he loves it when you sit on his lap while he's working. If you ever go into his office to bring him tea or something he will somehow get you to sit on his lap everytime. He wants you to sit with your chest against his, your legs around his waist, your arms around his neck and your face buried in the crook of his neck. This is his fav position cause you don't block his view of the computer screen, he can rub your back when he stops to think and because now you're acting as his personal blankie to keep him warm! If you're feeling particularly needy but he can't leave his desk he'll get you to cockwarm him until he's done and then he'll take you to his bed and finish the job but these are supposed to be fluffy hcs so I'll stop here jsjsjsk
- he loves your attention and to be pampered by you. When you bring him tea and food while he's working, when you give him a kiss on the cheek before you leave and after you come back, when you make sure he isn't cold in his office, when you beg him to take a break or come to bed because it's obvious that he's tired, when you tell him again and again that you don't want him sitting in front of his computers in the dark for hours because it's bad for his eyes...he loves everything about this
- for this reason he will accept to take a bath only if you get in the tub with him. Run your fingers through his hair and scratch his scalp and he's in heaven. He insists that you sit on his lap to wash his hair so he gets to look at your naked body and all the flustered expressions you make when his hands graze your skin cause this man loves to touch you. The fact that you're fully aware that he could kill you with a single touch but you still willingly let him touch you and often even beg him to touch you is enough to let him know that you trust him and he loves that
I cant think of anything else at the moment but hopefully these were good enough
- 💍
THIS IS SOOOOO SWEET I LOVE IT SO MUCH THANK U SO MUCH FOR THIS
idk if you’ve ever watched saiki k but it reminds me of that gnsjdks like he will always win no matter what but he’ll want to make you feel a lil better about it😭 but honestly he can be very blunt so i’d imagine he’d accidentally be an asshole sometimes sjdjsjdjs like “you made fewer stupid moves this time, im very proud of you darling”
i could write a million fucking fics over and over about cockwarming specifically for him like i just LOVE the concept so much and could go on about it for hoursssss but i’ll also keep this clean 💀 and yes he loves you as his own personal weighted blanket that also gives him kisses and praises
i just imagine bringing him a blanket and some hot tea and a snack when he’s been at his computer for a long time, and it makes him all mushy. or maybe you have a cat together and you just walk in dump it in his lap and leave 💀
BUT YES OH MY GOD THE VULNERABILITY OF LETTING HIM TOUCH YOU DESPITE HIS ABILITY i’ve honestly never thought about that in detail before but thats such a good point like nothing means more to him than the fact that you happily welcome and seek out his touch, something that is easily lethal, thats how much you love and trust him which is something he’s never experienced before.
and taking little baths with him UGH god thats so sweet like forcing him to let you use a bath bomb so theres just pink fizzy water surrounding you as you wash his hair, using your nails to scratch his scalp making this bitch PURR. he just closes his eyes and leans into ur touch, wrapping his arms around you just to feel your skin. he thinks you are so beautiful, and cherishes every single little curve and bump and scar or stretch mark, every little “imperfection” just makes him fall more in love with you. he honestly just wishes you were naked always.
but yes thank u for cleansing this space my blog rly needed it dkfsbfksj ❤️❤️❤️

@noirandchocolate
Yeah I remember reading the post and thinking 'this sounds like it MIGHT be an adhd thing' but I didn't want to say that bc I didn't want to come of patronizing like 'oh hun your feelings are just your neurodivergence acting up.' Nevertheless even if it IS 'caused by' adhd that doesn't make the feeling less 'valid' or less shitty to feel!
Yeah XD; probably if you had said that right there and then, because I was angy, I probably would have just been grumpy about that being pointed out because for whatever reason I have this weird complex about "not getting listened to" which I'm pretty sure is thanks to growing up in the school system. (it also left me with the belief that nobody ever listens to ANYTHING I say and nobody puts any value into my words) so at that very second it probably would have just annoyed me.... but you right tho XDDD and honestly, Now that I'm not angry, it actually does make me feel a LOT better to have other people with ADHD go "oh I recognise that one. Yeah that sucks bro." especially since, despite the tone of the post, I really was talking about it to hear if this is what everyone feels and they're just not talking about it or not.
....so the typical ADHD experience. "Everyone probably feels this way and they just don't mention it."
btw I get this too though probably about different subject matter. For example I have to hold back from correcting people about legal topics when they're 'just making a joke' or even when they're outright spreading misinformation, bc I know no one in the 100k notes is going to notice and it's a waste of my time. And then I feel agitated for hours especially if the post goes by on my dash AGAIN.
Ah yeah yeah yeah.
My big triggers are misinformation just... in GENERAL really makes me angry. (Did you guys hear fucking Rubber Ross on yt tell his 300k followers that Herge "drew N*zi Propaganda because he was German" when Herge was BELGIAN AND HAD HIS COUNTRY OCCUPIED DURING THE WAR AND WAS PROBABLY TAKEN PRISONER TO DRAW PROPAGANDA ROSS O'DONOVAN WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?????)
Another big thing that sets me off a LOT is when you see teenagers (almost always from the US) going on about how Communism is the bees knees just because they hate capitalism and you can just fucking tell they've never opened a single history book in their entire lives and lemme tell ya, the friends I have who actually live in the Eastern Block HAVE SOME DISAGREEMENT WITH THAT STATEMENT But as you say. What the fuck is the point yelling in a 100k notes post because all you're gonna get is a bunch of 16 year olds calling a "bootlicker" or sending you spicy memes of that stock image of that dude deep throating a doc martin and all manner of "wow you're a terrible person sweaty (:" in your inbox and it's honestly not fucking worth the longlasting consequences.
(Law stuff isn't the only thing that's just the most noncontroversial topic I could mention as an example, lol. But anyway I do get this feeling like 'ò_ó Now I'm mad but I can't do anything about it, UGH!!!' when I hold back from shouting at strangers on the internet about various things. Feels like being a frustrated, angry tiger pacing in a shitty zoo cage.)
A frustrated angry tiger pacing in a shitty zoo cage is 100% the feeling. And it can last for HOURS. as in PLURAL HOURS. And it sucks ass, man. (I was yelling at my therapist about Ross O'Donovan's showing his ass at his 300k subscribers which is probably the angriest he's seen me but forgive me if some popular asshole accuses a war victim of being a n*zi makes me just a little bit annoyed)
But honestly it IS, as always, a good feeling to have someone else go "it's ok. It's not just you. I know how that feels." even if it can't be right that very moment where I'm still being like
Tumblr media
(Also as an aside please if you didn't have a very good history department in high school, I am BEGGING you to make some time to read up on your recent world history, people)

Hiya, mun! So you don't really have to answer or post this, but when is it okay to start bullying someone on the internet? Or to start spewing vitriol at them? Or what missteps/misdeeds do they have to have made for people to say that its fine/justifiable to make fun of them? Sorry for the odd ask 😅
Oh like... when I say I’m “Bullying” Travis McElroy, I’m not trying to be actively malicious towards him, I mean it mostly in a, “I’m well aware he has much more of an online following than me and isn’t actually all that bad a guy, but I’m giving him shit because sometimes the content he puts out there, or its proliferation by his followers annoys me” but like... I don’t consider it particularly mean--it’s more like, “hey you’re being obnoxious, so here I am also being obnoxious with the assumption that you’re probably not going to see it and this is all operating under a context of internet comedy.”
But I think in general, if you’re dealing with someone whose views or content really morally sits wrong with you, there’s a couple of approaches:
1. Mute/block them and their content-- Like, at the end of the day you curate your online experience, and you literally don’t have to see or interact with their shit. There is no obligation there. This is the quickest and easiest approach and 9/10 is better for everyone’s mental health and energy in the long run. Not every fight has to be your fight, not every bit of horrible jackshit out there needs a response--mute and move on. Like, I have a handful of relatively popular posts floating out there, but if I see terfs showing up in the notes, I just start blocking the shit out of them--and it’s pretty easy because they’re always reblogging shit in circles, so all it takes is one idiot with a URL like “My-uterus-and-hatred-are-my-entire-personality” to unveil the whole infestation, and I block the shit out of everyone who reblogs from them. I do not need their hateful shit anywhere near me or my followers and I’m not going to give them a platform by engaging with them.
2.  If necessary, maybe talk (civilly!!) to your mutuals if they’re sharing content from that person about the issues you have with them, and work something out so that they make a tag for that content that you can block, or that they recognize, “Oh that person did a fucked up thing” and block that person as well. Again, this is another approach that doesn’t require actually confronting the offender and doesn’t require a lot of energy and is ultimately more about curating your own online experience.
3. Okay so here’s where we start talking about confrontation and like... the thing about the internet is that shit can get messy fast. Lives can get ruined fast. If this were 2013, maybe I could say that you can try to approach someone in good faith, discuss your differences of belief, but unfortunately you’re talking to post-2020 Sarah who is in 24/7 “STAY BACK I WILL CUT YOU” mode due to the whole... *gestures vaguely at the pandemic and attempted coup and blatant fascism in right-wing circles* ...y’know. But if you think it’s possible to engage with someone in good faith...if you know them to generally be a good and reasonable person, it can be worth talking shit out with them. Civility can be much more effective in getting people to listen than we think. But at the end of the day, listen to your gut. People are dangerous out there.
Honestly a big savior to my mental health has been the acknowledgement that, in the grand scale of the internet, de-platforming can be so much more powerful than outright confrontation and a lot of the time it’s better because there is no good-faith discussion with a lot of the assholes out there and all debating with them is going to do is wear you out because a lot of these people made their choices about who they are a long time ago, and then barred the gates to their brains--any new information that brings their years-long beliefs or tastes into question is ‘fake news’ or ‘cancel culture’ or ‘rampant political correctness.’ They will come up with as many words as they need to rationalize, “I don’t believe that because it makes me uncomfortable.” So like...essentially what I’m saying is, is that a lot of the time, all internet bullying does is make people stick to their corners harder. How many memes have we reblogged about “Doing the thing out of spite?” That’s... pretty much how polarized shit has gotten.
So like... man, I won’t say there isn’t a lot of rage in me, because there is, but you have to be very discerning when and where you’re going to throw that molotov, and like they say in The Good Place, when you throw a molotov, all your problems become different problems. So I don’t believe in anon hate, and I don’t think dogpiling helps either (and a lot of the time I think dogpiling comes from people not being aware that they’re dogpiling, like the 9000 people on that one aliens post I made that are all miraculously completely unaware that 8999 people before them have all added on the text addition of “wHAt iF thE aLienS CamE aS dOgs?” Reading comprehension on the internet is shit, just something to keep in mind. This is just text on a screen for a lot of people and they don’t recognize the scale of ‘9000 notes’ on a post. There is a lot of anger in me, but..I need to be very sure I’m not making the situation worse by lobbing that anger out into cyberspace.
