Things I did enjoy about Individual Circumstances (there were actually many):
Wu Jae. 🥰 In all of his many moods.
The aesthetics. I started watching because, having finished Jack o’Frost, I wanted another calm and visually beautiful show. I found Individual Circumstances on Viki, didn’t know anything about the plot, but the opening scene of Wu Jae in the woods seemed like it was what I was looking for.
All the beautiful greenery, the long forest walks, even Wu Jae’s funny little manicured house and yard in the middle of farmland.
Wu Jae’s writing cardigans.
Wu Jae’s adolescent longing and pain.
The music!
Even Wu Jae’s manager, Seong Jun; I liked him for his devotion.
Yeon Wu’s camping set-up in the driveway. Was it creepy stalker behavior? Yes. Was it kinda cute anyway? Also yes. (Inspired by To My Star 2, or just a coincidence?)
I was going to make fun of the fake rain filter at the end, but eventually they used real water and let the actors get wet, and it turned out to be cute. I liked the final shot of them roughhousing in the miracle rain. (Second kiss sliiightly better than the first. I saw a lip move!)
Wu Jae’s smiles.
Wu Jae being pissy.
I actually really liked the birthday numbers thing. At the end I realized it even applied to the wine label! (I feel like could have done more with it, but perhaps that’s just a stand in for me wanting the story to be more queer somehow.)
The ghosts of Wu Jae’s novel’s characters haunting the frame. (I wish the story-within-a-story itself had been less bland, but I liked the idea of seeing the characters on screen, echoing and foreshadowing.)
Wu Jae’s face.
Oh I forgot!
Wu Jae’s shocked face, door slam, and dumping salt on Yeon Wu’s head when Yeon Wu first shows up at his door after years.
Wu Jae cowering in overwhelm and hiding his eyes from Yeon Wu’s naked torso. The blatant thirst-trap-iness of the cinematography there 😂
