Regressor!Shizuo Headcanons

Shizuo is a toddlerspace regressor through and through, regressing anywhere from two to four. Some people say he never left his terrible twos what with all the tantrums he seems to throw and they aren't far off the mark with that statement. Though he didn't actually start regressing until he hit his twenties. This was around the time things went south for him, and the coping mechanism sort of cropped up naturally without his notice. It takes some time before he can put a name to it, and it's not even him that does so—turns out Shinra kept an eye on more than just his strength over the years.

So perhaps unsurprisingly, he throws tantrums quite often. It's not that Shizuo even aims to do so, with one want or another in mind, whether that want be for something like an extra cookie or to stay up during his naptime. No, it's as if his body can no longer hold his big emotions when he's regressed. And so they all bubble over quite easily and explode all at once, resulting in some interesting tantrums. There's a reason his cg tends to get him softer toys. A teddy bear aimed at nothing in particular won't kill someone if it happens to hit them, unlike the damage that could be expected from the hard plastic of a toy phone. There's still a block embedded in the wall that they kindly hid with some careful furniture rearranging.

On the flip side, he cries very easily if his strength gets out of control. Anger isn't the only emotion that gets too big for him to handle, and often the fallout of his temper tantrums are worse on him. His intention isn't to hurt or break things, it just sort of happens the same way it does when he's big. Shizuo is always waiting for his cg to be frightened just like everybody else, always afraid of being too much. That the other shoe will drop and they'll leave him all alone. So when they pull him into a hug and comfort him instead, looking concerned rather than afraid, it's no surprise that he cries, really. And after he's all cried out, they sit down with him and talk through what he was feeling so that he knows how to handle it next time.

Bouncing off of that, Shizuo has a sticker chart for when he does do a good job at handling his emotions. The sticker chart is something his cg worked out for him early on in an attempt to help with his temper tantrums. Basically for every five stickers he gets a reward of some kind; something like a special food he likes or a new toy, or even something that isn't a physical commodity (like a regression day where he gets to skip his nap for instance). The sticker system is almost worth implementing when he's big, but it seems that working on his temper and other emotions when he's small has a positive impact on his big self as well—definitely a step in the right direction.

Despite the terrible two tantrums, Shizuo is otherwise a sweet little guy. He sticks to his cg's side like glue, holding their hand as he follows them around the apartment and snuggling up close to them whenever he can. He's also not very verbal either, mostly sticking to sentences comprised of two or three words at most, and that's only if he isn't able to communicate what he wanted through pointing and/or various noises.

Small Shizuo is very much of the mindset that pacifiers are evil and that he should be allowed to suck on his fingers. Or on his sleeve. Or even on the ear of his cow plushie. And maybe on some other things that he picks up if they pass his super high standards, but definitely not pacifiers. Shizuo is convinced he doesn't need a paci, that he wouldn't even use it that often (he would). It's a constant battle between him and his cg, one that often ends with him begrudgingly taking the paci with the most grumpy baby expression imaginable. (It won't kill him to use a paci instead of his fingers, they say. He does not believe them.)

And since this is Shizuo we're talking about...you know the baby wants milk. He prefers regular, unflavored whole milk but will accept flavors like chocolate or strawberry so long as it is in his favorite sippy cup. If it isn't in the right sippy cup, he simply will not drink it. It might also get pushed to the floor with a pout, but that's what no-spill sippies are for, right?
