I know you said that you'll be more active on your other blog, but will you even return to this one?
Short answer: Maybe? Hopefully.
Long answer: I'm kinda hesitant to. A while back, I reblogged an ask meme, basically asking a review of my RPing/Blog. I often worry about things like my blog being difficult to read/navigate, grammar errors and not giving my RP partners much to work in replies, ect. Whatever complaints I'd get, I would focus on ironing them out and progressing towards the better. (New year, New goals. Ya know?)
I got only one ask, basically stating that "Your idea of the character is great, but your execution is lacking".
I'll be honest, that stunned me for a bit. I wasn't (still not) too sure how to tackle that. What specifically was lacking? Was it because they talk? Takes the 'feral' out of the creature? Was it how I have them talk, how they interact with others without going to immediate violence? What exactly was lacking? Everything, or just bits here and there? I wish I asked, instead of letting it sit in my inbox for months.
So, for a bit, I dabbled in musings and brushed up on what makes a monster a monster. Maybe I wasn't making Carrion intimidating enough? But they wouldn't really care for intimidation, they don't rely on it. Maybe I wasn't hitting too far into the 'Horror' aspect. So I mused, and I dabbled, but none of it felt right anymore.
I felt like I was going in circles trying to find something that I was missing, but I didn't know what it was. All I knew is that I didn't have it or that I had it, but couldn't perform it properly. And I think that ultimately killed my muse for my pile of worms.
I still wanted to try and RP, so that's part of the reason why I'm (only a little) but active over there. I'm not going to delete Carrion anytime soon (I like my url too much) but I don't know how to really come back. I still can't figure out how to make Carrion interesting if my portrayal was lackluster. I'd just be doing the same mistakes

@talos-1 for This Post!
I'm letting you know now as a warning, Carrion would want to eat them bc they are very anti-scientist. Upon seeing Jamie have/use the typhon DNA, they might hold off on nibbling them and see what they truly are.
I could see Jamie taking a high interest in Carrion and them seeing them as a kinda 'missing link' for their research! It's going to take a long time for them to have Carrion be willing to help/interact with them.
Tbh, Carrion wouldn't want to help humanity. They've been nothing but trouble, time and time again. If they die out, it's from their own downfall. They'll just find different food sources.

Wishlist! 💝 Just a small list of things that I'd love to plot/write later down the line w this lil blob! This list can/will change.
Carrion being mistaken as 'just an animal' and being treated as such, until it is revealed way too late that 'Oh No, there's More.'
Someone, please teach them Fun. Please show them how to have a Good Time. The very idea of it is absurd to them, they are very focused on the grind. They can't technically burn out, but i am the mun so i will make it so for this interaction.
On that note, the thought of Carrion being seen in some kinda familial way opens a secret unknown thing. I love it.
They are able to heal injuries. I hc that Carrion is able to numb limbs or areas of the body. Which makes it easier to just...open ppl up and do whatever needs to be done. Just make sure that they've eaten first. Helps prevent... temptation.
Carrion being introduced to a giant jawbreaker and just easily taking a giant bite outta the thing w ease. While in human form, mind you.
They don't care about the concept of Money, they WILL be stealing shit. Catch them going to the store and leaving with a bunch of shit in their hands. Do Not send them to the store.
Carrion bringing new Animals into the Fog, but they will be equally Fucked Up. Deer you swear had antlers that moved, coyotes that almost sound as if snickering at you while you become even more lost within the fog, hares that have No Fear and slowly start to crowd you for Their meal. (i also want a Unicorn that chooses Violence and will absolutely gore your ass.) These could act as different forms that Carrion has taken in the past. Hell, they may even be forms that Carrion takes.
Someone mistaking them as the fuckin fae/cryptic/alien. I like the concept of them being mistaken as something otherworldly, but they are very much a part of the world.

Alrighty first, I wanna say Happy Holidays to those that celebrate! If not, hope the new year is kind to you.
Now this is a queuing up stuffs along with my replies and such. I apologize for hoarding these for so long. I swear it was like..Dec 7th and now it's like a week from. it Christmas. Wtf happened?
Anyways, everything is in queue. I'm sorry if my responses are a little "People Die when they are Killed", My Brain literally cannot move any more forwards with them. So I just sorta...gone ahead and bit the bullet. That said, as always, if you don't understand/like what I wrote, please just IM me and I'll do another thing. I'm not bothered by that at all.
Stay safe, stay hydrated and get plenty of rest 💖

I still find it a bit funny that the devs based Carrion off of a mix between John Carpenter's The Thing and The Xenomorph from Alien.

Next On "I'm probably reading too much into this, Oh Well"
So can it do that with any living organism? It would be redundant to be able to do that with humans. Maybe, if Carrion has enough bio samples to go by, it's able to make a perfect copy if it, down to the atom.
So, Carrion seems to be able to simply change it's whole DNA structure at will. Maybe even pick and choose which ones will be more beneficial for them? I know in game it's stated that it's able to shoot strong webs due to absorbing Spider DNA (and damn those webs are strong, they're able to pin a man in place. Maybe they've increased the durability too? Spider webbing is 5x stronger than steel, horrible on my part)another instance is when it just... rearranges itself to be a Human. And it's not a chameleon situation where it just changes the light reflection on its...skin? flesh?/ or changing via skin pigments, no no, it's able to bypass bio scanners(? at least thats what those little scanners look like)
Another thing i wanna know, since it can understand human speech, read, etc. How long as it been around civilization? Can it just eat a few people and learn everything from them what's possible within socal laws, of does it have to do homework and stalk people?
How long has Carrion been alive? How long since it gained consciousness? What would make it start branching off? Was it a specific cluster, or did it start with one worm individually until the whole cluster managed to catch up? Did it maybe start out in a deeper part of the ocean? That would explain why it's not effected by water pressure and grew larger in size. How many of them are out there? Will the structurally makeup be different cluster to cluster due to environment? Or would they all share biomass between one another in order to keep structural data between them?

Alright, so im rereading the comic and in it Carrion says something along the lines of 'I desire what the Host desires'
and at first I thought it was weird/a fear tactic on their part because they are literally near inches from the person's face, in a sealed and bolted room, backed into a corner. The feeling of dread and hopelessness would be immense, why not play with your food a little? But then they do not respond with the question on if they have a desire to destroy themselves, since it's in human nature to do so. They don't seem to pause, but they do eat the man after that.
"I desire what the Host desires"
What does the host desire? Obviously, not eating their coworkers and being enveloped in an forever growing mass of flesh and teeth. How much will and desire does a person have once they've been eaten. Does the body die, but the consciousness still live on within Carrion? Or does Carrion absorbs that to become a better 'passing' human. Does it make a difference? Does it make a difference to them?
Or is it a situation where the Desire is the primal instinct to just Survive. To just make it to another day. To find another meal, to have shelter, to be safe. I wonder if that also includes companionship? Carrion, as a whole, can sorta fill that by itself. It's one and all, together forever, no matter what. But do you think it'll sometimes get sick of itself? Do you think it's possible for it to become lonely? Maybe even longing? All of these, of course, would be alien to it. How could something inhuman learn, understand and feel Human?
What does Human mean for you? What does Human mean to it?

How did you come up with the url?
I'm SO glad you asked! -Pulls out several charts and scattered paperwork with different theories and hypothesis-
So, nobody knows exactly where Carrion comes from. In game, you'll see some flashbacks on how the scientist captures Carrion from an abandon lab. Upon awakening Carrion, hell breaks loose as it's seen killing the scientist and possessing another. So, that means Carrion was already in the abandon facility and that it always had these abilities. The game never mentions if it grew from an experimentation, caught from the wilds, or if it came from beyond the stars.
Now, since Carrion's origin is up to speculation, there's been several theories on where it came from. One of those being that it's an evolved species of tubifex worms. Tubifex worms are small, aquatic and live in clusters. They're also very hardy and can survive pollution. Carrion seems to prefer water, having no problems swimming and staying underwater. It can also leave giant piles of biomass underwater for safekeeping, it only does this in large bodies of water.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
See the similarities? My theory is that Carrion is from a common cousin of tubifex worms, or at lest something that branched off and had to adapted in a different way. This is why my url is Tubifexx
