Shree Dakshinaamoorti's gurumaataa was Shree Bala Tripurasundari who later gave herself to Shree Dakshinaamoorti, in the form of Shree Tripurabhairavi, as his consort after eons of worshipping her. Hence she is the very embodiment of Guru Tattva. She is gurumandala all in all. Maa Kushmanda, the fourth Avatar of Goddess Durga, is worhipped on the 4th day of Navratri. Her name means the cosmic egg' and she is considered the creator of the universe. As per the Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu was able to start creating the universe when Maa Kushmanda smiled like a flower which blossomed with a bud. She created the world from nothing, at the time when there was eternal darkness al around. This Swarup of Maa Durga is the source of all. Since she created the universe, she is called Adiswarup and Adishakti.

She has eights hands in which she holds Kamandul,bow, arrow, a jar of nectar (Amrit),discus, mace and a lotus, and in one hand she holds a rosary which blesses her devotees with the Ashtasiddhis and Navniddhis. She is also known as Ashtabhuja.She has a radiant face and golden body complexion. Maa resides in the core of the Sun and thus controls the Surya Lok.

Maa Kushmanda represents Anahata Chakra in spiritual practice. The divine blessings of Maa Kushmanda helps you improve your health and wealth. She removes all the hurdles and troubles from your life and enables you to get rid of all sorts sorrows in life. Maa brings light into darkness and establishes harmony in your life.

As Kushmanda among the nine durgas , as Mahalakshmi in Shrimad Devi Bhagawatam and as Kamakhya in tantras , Devi is regarded as the very source of everything . She is regarded as universal mother simply because everything that exists is born out of her . She is the womb / source from which Shiva ( time ) , Vishnu ( space ) and Bramha ( matter ) are also born , she is the Mother of all gods.

Kushmanda means from whose ushma / self energy , the Bramhanda ( universe ) is born . She is the mother Goddess to everything that is animate and inanimate . Creations have born out of her and goes back to her . She is the beginning and she is the end of cosmos .

Devi is consciousness and bliss incarnate as Saguna which is worshiped as Kamakhya , Mahalakshmi , Lalita , Kalika and other Vidya forms of her , and also she is formless , unknown or unseen as Nirguna parabramha . In form and as formless both ways she exists . When she's in a form she becomes the mother and creates life and universes , when she becomes formless she devours everything back within herself .

Goddess is regarded as the supreme Godhead in Hindu spirituality , almost every scripture speaks in volumes of her being the very source of universe . She is the Hiraṇyagarbha from which all life is born . In medieval times when their was a rise of male deity centric traditions in Hinduism such as shaivism and Vaishnavism , their was an attempt to hide the ancient perceived science of sages and gurus who mentioned the primordial womb or Devi as the supreme source of existence .

#Ambubachi Ma Kamakhya in the tantras is described as the Mother of all kinds of deities. All the Dasha Mahavidyas, Yoginis, Durgas, Kalis, Matrikas and other kinds of goddesses have originated from her. She is revered as the Yoni, the source from which even the Aumkara ॐ is born. Yoni is the womb of Goddess which has mothered everything. As time, space and matter she has given birth to Shiva, Vishnu and Bramha. It was rightly said that the one who worships Kamakhya has worshiped all deities at once, because she was the source, the garbha from which all of them were born. Today is the second day of her menstruation festival known as Ambubachi. Menstruation is important as it represents the kriya Shakti of Devi. She gives you vishesha ragam better known as Vairagyam, which is attachment to nothing else except Divine. Maha Shivaratri - The Merger of Shiva and Parvati in one form.

In the Devi Mahabhagwatam, it is said Ma Parvati was conscious of the events of Daksha Yagna and the consequences which kept Lord Shiva in seclusion from the material world. She wanted to marry him but when she saw him in intense states of samadhi, she understood he has no intention left to interact with the dualistic world of desires and consequences. Even when the God of desire, Kamadeva tried to interfere here, he was burned to ashes by Shiva.

Devi is the mother principle of existence, she even mothered time, space and all which exists as matter or non-matter. The creation is an outcome of her desire, and she desired to merge Shiva, the father principle which mostly remains static within her to make him dynamic once again. She worshipped him, sang songs in her melodious voice and danced in lasya to woo his heart. After observing his unshakable intensity in the state of samadhi, she decided to become more intense than him. Samadhi means total dissolution of one's self in consciousness, and here Mahadeva was sitting in front of her in a form but had dissolved all associations of his form within his consciousness, which made him inert.

Ma Parvati then performed penance of her own, her intensity was releasing intense shock waves in the cosmos. Unable to bear the heat of her intense samadhi, the heavenly deities prayed to her and Shiva for protection otherwise all which exists as dual will merge within the non-dual aspect of Devi. Her intense energy shock waves were also hitting Shiva and he woke up and realised the play/Leela of Devi.

Shiva then approached the meditating Devi and acknowledged her love. He merged within her and she merged within him and were known as Ardhanarishwara. As formless Parabramha, they are always in the union, only to demonstrate the significance of this union to mortals they've appeared in separate forms of Shankara and Parvati. In union, all dualities, uproars and unawareness are silenced and only the oneness of Shakti (endless play of universal energy) with Shiva (the forever conscious one) remains.

Swaminarayan Mandir Architecture and People's Belief in Swaminarayan Sanstha

All the household have a pooja room at their house, where a Diya lit every evening and God is worshipped with pure faith. The pooja mandir and idol in our pooja room serve as a gateway to communicate with the supreme power. In India, there are many different religions and every religion has different sects, their own sets of rules, traditions, and beliefs.

One of the oldest and adhering to the doctrine of metaphysics as well as moksha is the Swaminarayan Sampradaya. Founded by Sahajanan Swami in 1801, who later came to be known as Swaminarayan; as he directed the devotees to chant the Swaminarayan mantra. The compound of two words - Swami and Naryan the five eternal entities viz. Parabhramha, Aksharbramha, Maya, Ishwar, and Jiva. His teachings concluded that the ultimate goal of life is Moksha i.e. liberation from the birth-death cycle.  

Beliefs and Practices Thought by the Swaminarayan Sampradaya

All the teachings of Swaminarayan Sampradaya can be found in the Vachanmrut, the theological text. While articulating the Vachanamrut, Swaminarayan Vedanta philosophies, specifically the Vallabha, Chaitanya, Ramanuja, and Madhava. One can find the most similarities between Ramanuja’s Vishistadvaita and Swaminarayan philosophy.

Significance of Metaphysics in the Vachanmrut

The system of Swaminarayan Sampradaya revolves around five main entities, which are Parabhramha, Aksharbramha, Maya, Ishwar, and Jiva. Prapbrambha means God, who manifests on this planet to liberate those who seek the path of spirituality. Going by this concept, many Swaminarayan followers believe that he is the avatar of the Supreme power, including the Rama and Krisha.

The second entity, Aksharbhamha exists in four from viz. Parabramha’s adobe, the ideal devotee, who resides with him in the adobe, perceiving the feeling that Parabramha is omnipresent and supporting the universe, and fourth is the Aksharbhrama Guru, the one who guides the devotees throughout the spiritual path.  

Maya is the eternal source consisting of three qualities serenity, passion, and darkness. This source is used by Parabrama to create the world.

Ishwar is the beings that are under the Parambharam They are ones who work under the instruction of the supreme power in creating, sustaining, and destroy the universe.

Jivas are the ones who reside in a body has a conscience. Jivas are mainly influenced by Maya and are trapped in the birth-death cycle. Their ultimate goal is to find Moksha.

Significance of Moksha and Practice of the Ekantic Dharma  

Overcoming the influence of Maya is the ultimate way of attaining moksha. The way of overcoming Maya is by practising the Ekantic Dharma, which consists of devotion, fulfilling moral as well as religious duties, neutrality towards the worldly object, and realization of the Paramatma and atman. Contrary to this general idea, every Sanstha or Sampradaya of Swaminarayan has different beliefs on the way to attain moksha.  

Various Traditions Associated with Swaminarayan Sampradaya

Praying in the Mandir

The Swaminarayan Sampradaya is well-known for its mandirs and architecture. Every mandir varies in ritual, architecture, and beliefs as per the Sanstha. Initially, six mandirs at Ahmedabad, Bhuj, Vadtal, Junagadh, Gadhada, were established for the devotees to worship. Now there are numerable mandirs, globally for devotional worship.  

Bakti Tradition and Murti Poojan

Following the bhakti tradition, idola/murtis of God are housed through Pran Prathishta. It is believed that God resides in the murti after the ceremony and devotees can worship it. Thal, a ritual consisting of chanting, singing devotional songs, and offering food to the idol is practised three times a day.  

Spiritual Tradition

Swaminarayan majorly encouraged the spiritual tradition by practising the teachings and gaining knowledge through Vachanamrut, Shikshapatri, Swamini Vato, Sacred biographies, Vedanta commentaries.

Major Sampradayas under Swami Narayan Sampradaya

As the Sampradaya started growing, Swaminarayan delegated responsibilities among the family members and followers (swamis). This gave birth to the different spiritual lineages and later turned into organisations/sampradayas, which are now spread across the world. The three major sampradayas are viz. Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS), International Swaminarayan Satsang Organisation (ISSO) OR Kalupur Swaminarayan Sanstha, and Shree Swaminarayan Vadtal Dham.

 Maharaj Shastriji formed this sampradaya in 1907, its principles revolve around the Vedas. BAPS leads their devotees to the lifestyles filled with spirituality and purity. Based on the Aksharbrahma-Parabrahma philosophy mentioned in the Vedas, they preach a comprehensive approach toward the ultimate liberation. Currently headed by Mahant Swami Maharaj, BAPS has more than 1100 mandirs.

  Shree Tejendraprasadji Maharaj is the founder of ISSO and now they have temples across continents. Established in 1978, the major objective of ISSO to upgrade the Sanstha Dharma by aligning it with Swaminarayan Sampradaya.

The world’s oldest and first-ever Swaminarayan Mandir located in Kalupur, Ahmedabad, is run by ISSO. The sampradaya also runs a Gurukul in London, where teachings of Swaminarayan are preached in English. Recently in 2001, a charity program ISSO Seva was initiated under the Swaminarayan Sampraday.

Shree Swaminarayan Vadtal Dham

Swaminarayan created a dual Acharyaship for his nephews a successor Acharya Maharajshree Ayodhyaprasad Pande and Acharya Maharajshree Raghuvir Pande. He carries out this acharya through a legal document known as Desh Vibhag no Lekh. There are two main branches of diocese viz Nar Narayan Dev Gadi headquartered at Ahmedabad and the Laxmi Narayan Dev Gadi headquartered at Vadtal.

This sampradaya believes in acharya tradition. The responsibilities include leading the followers towards Samanya Diksha by giving the guru-mantra, leading the monks towards Maha-Bhagwati Diksha, perform Pran Prathishtha, and fulfilling other duties as Guru of the Sampradaya.

'Vedam' (वेदम्) is the Sanskrit word meaning knowledge. Veda (वेद) is collective divine knowledge. The word Veda does not represent a written book. Infact, the word is self explanatory. It represents a collection of experiences of different learned men. In the olden days, schools were not like what we have. Young minds were initiated by their Gurus so that they could understand the Vedas. It is a well known fact that the Vedas are scientific as well. In this way, children learnt science (for material life) and about the Parabramha (for spiritual life). There are four Vedas: 1. Rigved - 'Rigved' (ऋग्वेद) literally means 'tribute to divine knowledge'. It is an introduction to knowledge. 2. Yajurved - 'Yajurved' (यजुर्वेद) springs from the word 'Yajus' (यजुस) which means worship. The Yajurved describes different ritualistic practices. It is formula based as it deals with the techniques of worship. 3. Samved - 'Samved' (सामवेद) deals with the application of the rituals and techniques mentioned in the Yajurved. It deals with precision. 4. Atharvaved - 'Atharva' (अथर्व) means wisdom. It deals with Universal Knowledge. After a detailed study of all the Vedas, the Guru then initiates his/her disciple into the 'Vedanta' (वेदांत) - the end of Vedas, the end of knowledge. Vedanta is all about self realization.
