21. things you said when we were on top of the world
*Full disclosure, I’ve never been to Hawaii so please excuse any factual errors :-)
The hike to the top of Diamond Head had been Anna’s idea, which had surprised Kristoff, since he’d expected her to want to spend every waking moment of their vacation in Hawaii on the beach. She’d brought a dozen bikinis for a week long trip, and bought half a dozen more their first day there, saying she planned to use every single one. Kristoff had only shrugged, not really having anything to complain about as he would get to enjoy every single one as well.
He followed her up the trail, and at first they were making good time. The hike was supposed to take two hours at the most, which definitely would get them back in time for their dinner reservations. About halfway up, Anna started to get distracted by the view.
“Oh my goodness! Look at that, Kristoff! What a stunning view! Let me take a picture.” She’d stop here and there to take pictures, to chat with other hikers, to examine flowers and foliage, and the remains of old bunkers. Everything was a curiosity to her, something Kristoff loved about her, and something he had a lot of patience with. This time, however, he checked his watch.
“Uh, Anna? Can we keep going?”
“Hm? Oh sure! Let me just get a shot from this angle, Elsa needs to see this!” She positioned her camera just so, adjusted the lens, then took several shots, all while Kristoff waited patiently. The sun started to dip lower, and Kristoff checked his watch again. Finally, Anna lowered her camera. “Okay, let’s go! Lead on!”
The rest of the ascent was straightforward, and Kristoff began to relax a little, checking his watch less and less. When they got to the top, however, Anna didn’t show any signs of wanting to leave.
“This view! Kristoff, it’s stunning!” Anna drew in her breath, taking in the bright blue of the sky above, and the turquoise of the water below. Lush green surrounded them, and the city of Honolulu lay at their feet. Kristoff had to admit, it was truly a spectacular view.
Anna milled around with the other tourists and hikers, sharing snapshots and pointers, taking selfies and snapping pictures for people. She was truly in her element, and Kristoff couldn’t help but smile as he watched her. Glancing once more at his watch, however, his face fell. Anna finally came over.
“Kristoff? What’s wrong? We’re on top of the world! Why do you look so unhappy?”
He looked into her face, and at that moment the sun began to dip towards the ocean, throwing the sky into a pinkish-orange hue. The last rays of the sun cast Anna’s face in the perfect light, reflecting off the red in her hair, illuminating the freckles on her face and the blue in her eyes. Her smile lit up his whole world, and suddenly the missed dinner reservation didn’t seem so important.
“You’re beautiful,” he whispered, brushing a tendril of hair away from her face. She smiled at his touch, catching his hand and pressing a kiss to his palm.
“I’m sorry, I guess we missed the dinner reservation? I know you really wanted to try that restaurant.”
“Naah, it wasn’t the restaurant that was important.”
Before Anna knew what was happening, Kristoff was down on one knee in front of her. The few remaining hikers around them started cheering, and it was only then Anna realized what was about to happen.
“Kristoff, what--”
“This wasn’t how I meant to do this, but, well, what better time than now?” He pulled out a ring from his pocket, the diamond sparkling in the dim light. “A diamond on Diamond Head? What do you think?”
Hot tears rushed to Anna’s eyes, and without a word she wrapped her arms tight around his neck, falling into his arms. “I love you, you dork,” she whispered into his neck, and he laughed, telling her he loved her too.
“Hey!” someone yelled from the crowd that had gathered, “So is that a yes?”
Kristoff helped Anna slip the ring onto her finger, before she turned to the crowd, “Definitely a yes! Now leave us alone!” And she once more slipped her arms around his neck, pulling him down for a passionate kiss.
send me a ship and one of these and i’ll write a mini fic
