Do you want a sicker?

One of Spider’s first interactions with Ja while being captured (brother mine au)

Summary: spider has always been forced to act older than his age, to just grow up so he doesn’t get in the way. He didn’t expect it to be any different with the Recoms….but then he sees how the act around Ja (btw Ja is way younger than in cannon )

Also even tho Ja is older than spider, you can’t tell me he wouldn’t be childish! I have also taken the executive decision to make Ja love stickers (it probs started out as a coping mechanism but then he just loved it)

(Might also write this better & add it to the actual fic)

From what Spider had heard growing up, he’d expected his captors to be vicious, to take joy in causing him pain and destroying the beautiful forest around them.

Not whatever this was…..

“Do you want a sticker?”

Spider had been sitting by himself away from his captors. His face was set in stone as he tried to think of ways to escape that would actually work, preferably without him dying due to lack of oxygen.

So to say he’d been distracted would have been a complete understatement, he hadn’t even noticed the giant, blue figure walking towards him. He’d practically jumped out of his skin when he heard the Recom speak.

“What-....what?” Spider was confused, there was now way in hell he’d heard that right.

“Do you want a sticker?” the recom asked as he dropped himself to the ground, leaning against his arms as he sat cross legged in front of Spider.

“What do you mean?” There was no way this, this demon, had just asked if he wanted a sicker. That had to be a code for something? A trick maybe?

“A sticker, do you want one?” The recom looked confused now, as if Spider was the one acting strange.

So, having no idea what was going on, Spider made the extremely, every intelligent decision to, just for once, not say anything at all.

That apparently, was not the response the recom was hoping for.

“Jesus, a sticker! Do you want- wait do you know what a stick- Lyle! Does he know what a sticker is?!” Suddenly the recom turned and yelled out to one of the figures sat with the group. His voice was becoming far more frantic with every word he spoke, as if the idea of Spider not knowing what a sticker was terrified him to his very core.

“How the fuck would I know!?” A voice yelled back in indignation.

“Hey Fike! Does this kid kn-“ the recom shouted again, only to be cut off by a different voice.

“Ja! Just ask the kid! How are any of us supposed to know!?” The voice huffed in fond irritation, eliciting quiet laughter from the Recoms in the circle.

“Oh yeah” the recom, Ja, as he’d been called, turned back to Spider with a sheepish smile.

It was silent for moment, no one said anything as Ja just continued to stare, completely unblinking, into Spiders eyes, just… waiting.

“Yeah…I know what a sticker is” Spider finally gave in, but in his defence! That staring was getting really creepy!

The Recom’s face broke out into a huge grin as he turned to dig through one of the many, many pockets of his army pants, and much to Spiders confusion, pulled out a sheet covered in ….smiley face stickers. There were tons of them! some were smaller than others, some different colours, though there were a few missing, obviously from already being used.

“So you want one? Which one?” Ja asked excitedly.

Spider just shrugged and pointed to a small blue one. He was too baffled to really think about anything, let alone decide what sticker he’d want.

Ja immediately went to peel of the sticker, careful not to rip it or bend the others around it too much. Once the sticker was free he turned back to Spider, the smile on his face fell for a second.

“Wait…you don’t really have anywhere to put this..oh! Here works!” Ja practically shouted with joy as he placed the small blue sticker in the top right corner of Spiders mask.

“Perfect!” Ja exclaimed as he sat back to admire his handiwork,he then stood up, and without another word, he just…left?

Spider had never been more confused in his life then he was as he watched Ja walk back to the circle where the other Recoms were talking amongst themselves, he casually sat down as if he hadn’t just given their captive a sticker, and to make matter worse, everyone around his just completely accepted that, as if that was normal, as if Spider was the weird one!

Spider went to sleep that night with his mind constantly replaying the interaction, his eyes locked on the white sticky side of the sticker he could see in the corner of his mask, until they become heavy with sleep.

Over the next few days, as Spider learned everyone’s names, he began to notice little stickers all around him.

A large yellow smiley face stuck to the side of Z-dogs gun.

A small orange face staring at him from the handle of Wainfleet’s knife.

A dark green sticker on the handle of Lopez’s scissors.

Two blue smiley face on the buckle of Fike’s pack.

Mansk, well Mansk had stickers practically everywhere, but shockingly enough that wasn’t the one that broke Spider’s brain.

No the Sticker had sent Spider spiralling through his brain for the rest of the night, was the small pink smiley face on the lid of Quaritches water canteen….

What on Pandora had he gotten himself into…

Bedtime boys…

Just because their hunting jake Sully doesn’t mean kids don’t have to go to bed

(Mansk & Ja brothers au)

Summary: much to Spider & Ja’s horror…..it’s bedtime, and Spider learns just what happens when Ja is deprived of a good nights sleep for too long

(Little mad, maybe)

It was late, ridiculously late, and considering how they hadn’t been getting more than a few hours sleep over the past few days, it was a miracle any of them could stand up.

“It’s bedtime kiddo” Spider hadn’t heard those words in years. People had just left him to his own devices for almost as long as he could remember!

So, to be told ‘it’s bedtime’ ,especially from his not so dead father turned kidnapper, was shocking to say the least.

Spider slowly turned to Quaritch from where he sat on the floor, his face drenched in shock and disgust as he locked eyes with the Recom.

“What?” Spider was sure he hadn’t heard that right, there was no way this Na’vi killing, Pandora hating, terrible, awful, down right dreadful excuse of a father, had just told spider……..that it’s bedtime.

“It’s late kid, time for you to hit the sack” Quaritch quirked and eyebrow, but other than that his face gave no reaction as he crossed his arms.

“You’re joking right?” this was ridiculous, there was no way in hell this man was trying to make Spider go to bed.

“I’m as serious as a bullet to the head. You need to go to bed” Quaritch’s lips broke out into a smirk, his eyes filling with a sudden fondness as Spider groaned and rolled his eyes.

“You can’t be serious!” Spider practically shrieked as he let his body flop onto the ground, his limbs going as limp as a rag doll.

Suddenly a cackle erupted through the night air. All eyes snapped to Ja, who was almost doubled over laughing, his arm was wrapped tightly around his stomach as he used his free hand to wipe away the tears that had begun gathering in his eyes.

“You-you heard the C-Colonel kid! Bedtime!” Ja struggled to force the words passed his lips before he erupted into more maniacal laughter. Ja’s body began to shake with the force of his echoing laughter until he finally collapsed to the floor and practically began rolling in the dirt.

Mansk and the other Recoms all watched on with fond smirks as Ja’s bellowing laughs continued.

“Shut up ass!” Spider snapped, though he would never admit it, he knew the tiredness in his bones left the venom in his words well… lacking.

Ja just continued laughing, only getting louder when he watched Spider fail to stifle a yawn.

“I don’t know what your laughing about, it’s your bedtime too” Lyle grinned as he leaned back against a tree.

Spider smiled evilly as Ja stopped dead in his tracks. He would have laughed himself silly, if he wasn’t suffering from the whiplash of how quickly Ja could go from laughing his guts out to staring Lyle down, like a hungry Ikran that just found wounded pray.

It was like a switch had been flicked. A switch Spider never would have thought existed within someone like Ja.

“Says you egghead” Ja’s normally light a jovial voice was dark and menacing, his appearance bordered on manic as he smiled at Lyle whilst his eyes glazed over.

“Shit, it’s happening, Mansk do something… the little psycho is coming out” Spider heard Fike whisper to Mansk, whilst the words themselves had been lighthearted, Spider could see the way Fike’s eyes would flicker between Ja, who was still staring Lyle down, and Mansk, who simply nodded sagely.

“Ja. Bedtime” Mansk words were clear a crisp, as he stepped towards his little brother.

Suddenly it was like the normal Ja was back.

Ja’s demeanour instantly snapped from ferocious hunter out for blood….to whiny child.

“What! Now away! You can’t make me go to bed! I’m nineteen!” Ja whined as he tuned to face Mansk.

“Not in that body your not! You’re a still a fresh little eighteen year old baby” Z-Dog laughed unhelpfully from her place by the fire.

There went that switch again.

Ja’s face spread into a smile that showed far too many teeth, that were now far sharper and pointier than ever before, to be anything but worrying as he turned to Z-Dog.

“I’m old enough to be given a gun on an alien planet, old enough to have already died” Ja’s voice was ice cold as his words stuck deep, it was a critical hit against all the Recoms and Ja knew it.

Not a single one of them didn’t hold some form of guilt over Ja’s death, guilt that would occasionally rear its ugly head. That was clear enough when all sounds of humour and smiles vanished from everyone’s faces.

Ja’s eyes seemed to take a dark kind of pleasure in that, it made Spider feel sick to his stomach, this was nothing like the Ja he had come to know at all, gone was the happy chatterbox, the goofball sicker lover was nowhere in sight, no this, this was a monster out for blood.

“I was old enough for you to leav-“ Ja began as he turned to Mansk, but his words were quickly cut off when his brother dropped to his knees in front of him.

Mansk pulled Ja’s body tight against his own, digging his hand into the fabric of Ja’s shirt, his other hand pressing Ja’s head against his shoulder.

“It’s okay, it’s bedtime now” Mansk’s words were soft as his fingers began to brush along Ja’s buzz hair.

For a moment it was quiet, a small part of Spider feared that Ja would lash out at his brother, that some kind of fight would breakout and someone would be hurt, but that didn’t happen…..

Instead, Spider watched as Ja’s shaking arms wrapped tightly aground Mansk back. The forest around them grew silent, as if it wanted to give the brothers a moment, when the sound of quiet sniffles suddenly filled the air.

Spider watching in confusion and fear as Mansk began to rock a softly crying Ja in his arms, he had no idea what was happening. Spiders eyes turned to Quaritch, his mouth opens as he was about to ask what the absolute fuck was going on, when he saw the look in the man’s eyes.

Quaritch’s eyes held something within them that Spider couldn’t name, an emotion he had never seen on the man. Quaritch briefly looked to Spider and shook his head. This was not the time.

Spider nodded and said nothing, simply watching on in silence as Mansk rocked his brother to sleep, as Ja’s pitiful sounds faded off into quiet even breaths.

Everyone was quiet as Fike and Lyle helped Mansk balance as he picked a sleeping Ja up into his arms, his deadweight briefly sending Mansk off kilter. Mansk nodded to his friends in thanks before he walked towards where he and Ja had lain their packs down for the night.

Spider watched as everyone began to get themselves ready for sleep, no longer in the mood to stay awake and chat around the fire. Spider watched as Z-Dog angrily kicked out the fire before she was pulled away to be comforted by Lopez. Wainfleet and Fike walked to the further edge of the camp, voices quiet as their eyes would occasionally flicker towards where Mansk and Ja were.

“It’s bedtime kid” This time Spider only nodded at Quaritch’s whispered words, he allowed the man to lead him towards where they would be sleeping without any protest.

After an hour Spider found himself leaning against Quaritch’s side, his tired eyes half lidded as he stared at where Mansk still sat, legs crossed beneath him, one hand holding Ja’s, the other hand gently stroking his hair.

“What..what happened?” Spider asked softly, though a small part of him didn’t really want to know.

Quaritch didn’t answer immediately, his eyes briefly scanning over Mansk still form before he turned to Spider, his eyes looked so tired in that moment before he looked away again.

“Ja’s a tough kid, he’s..He’s been through a lot, but all tough kids gotta crack sometimes….”his voice trailed off slightly.

“with Ja, that only happens when he’s this exhausted. I’ve only seen it a few times… he’ll get like that, mean and angry…he’ll throw everything at you to set you off, to get to you react…fell for it a few times and I’m not proud of that…” Spider watched as Quaritch shook his head, as if the man was trying to shake away the memory.

“he becomes a whole different person when he’s like that. Jumpy and on edge. It’s like he forgets everything and just becomes someone else. Someone who won’t see reason….I’ve only ever seen him calm down when Mansk holds him….”Quaritch hesitated for a moment, as if he wasn’t sure he wanted to tell Spider his next words, as if he wasn’t sure it was his place.

“That kids seen a lot of death in his life…hell he experienced it…from what I’ve seen of him over the years, he’d rather just push his problems down, that’s never the best thing to do anyway….but with Ja?.. he can just keep pushing and pushing…and he won’t stop until his mind isn’t strong enough to keep it all down anymore….then this kind of thing happens” Quaritch’s eyes glazed over as he turned to look at the brothers.

“tonight was an easier one… I’ve seen him fight and claw to get out of his brothers grip.Mansk never lets him. Mansk always wins in the end and Ja just ends up crying himself to sleep…..he won’t properly remember any of this in the morning” Quaritch’s voice was pained as he spoke, as if someone was pushing against an old wound. If Spider hadn’t been so tired, he would’ve been more caught off guard.

The two were quiet once again as they watched Mansk finally lay down next too his brother.

“But wh-“ a yawn cut Spider off.

“Shushh kid, talk more in the morning” Quaritch pulled Spiders tired body closer to him.

“It’s bedtime now” Spider fell asleep quickly after that, nuzzled into Quaritch’s side as a protective arm wrapped around him.

This turned out nothing like I’d planned…i was just gonna have some teasing or something…but this came out instead

I must be more tired than I though 😅

I might try writing this again with the fluffy version if anyone is interested or if I just feel like it idk

I’ll do some fluffy stuff again soon so don’t worry about that!

I caught a fish!

Brother mine….

I love these guys as brothers, I can’t get enough! So here is Ja being a dumbass little brother and Mansk not understand how he’s even still alive.

*Mansk minding his own business*

*Ja walks up to him covered in bruises, cuts, bleeding hands and a bloody nose but also a megawatt grin*

Mansk,Shocked: what the fuck happened to you!?

Ja: I caught a fish!

Mansk: a fish? What? Were you doing it with no hands and a blindfold? What kind of fish even does that?

*Ja points to giant shark like creature that looks like it swam out of nightmares and is bigger than a skimwing*

Mansk: WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT!?

Ja: a fish…..I think? I mean it was swimming in the water.. so that means it’s a fish right?

Mansk, disbelief: you were supposed to get seaweed! Seaweed! Not catch whatever in the fifty-shades-of-fuck that is!

Ja: ohhhh, that’s what I was doing. Well..I got hungry, so we have a fish now!

*Mansk face palms *

Mansk: what did you even use? That thing is huge

Ja,Shrugs: I found a rock

Mansk,deadpan: you what?

Ja: well I didn’t have a weapon, I was looking for seaweed, you don’t need weapons for seaweed, duhh moron

*Mansk internally screaming*

Mansk: so how did you kill it then!?

Ja,as if talking about the weather: oh! It tried to eat me, it’s mouth got like super big! So when I was half inside I just pushed it open and broke the fucker’s jaw! Then I swam out, scratched myself on the teeth, saw a rock, and just used that to finish it off!

Mansk: you…you…. I’m not even surprised. But why, just why?

*Ja shrugs & sits next to Mansk, bleeding into the sand*

Ja: sooo, can you cook it?

Mansk: cook it? I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT IT IS!! HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO COOK IT!?!?

ja, shrugs: I don’t know! Your the cooking guy… can you just like… smell it ?

*disbelieving angry chef noises*

Mansk, losing all faith in his brother: can’t I just- no,No, No? No!? That’s not how that works?! I don’t have any idea what i would use!? I don’t even know if we can eat this!?……wait. You know if we can eat this right?

Ja: uhhh.. I need to go talk to Tonowari about…… a thing.. yeah a thing!

*Ja leaves gigantic fish with Mansk and goes to look for Tonowari*

*Somewhere in the distance*

Ja: Tonowari! I caught a fish!

Mansk, talking to the dead fish: how am I related to him?

Okay so I was just struck with the idea that Lyle is the kind of person who will literally eat anything on a bet / dare

And you know that Ja and Fike are totally taking advantage of that.

Like before recom-if-ic-ation

*group on patrol*

Fike *picks up weird rock covered in goop* : ewwww look at this! It’s glowing!

Ja : wow! Super rock slime! Do you think you could get super powers from eating something like that?

*Ja & Fike make eye contact*

Ja & Fike : LYLE! DARE YOU TO LICK THIS ROCK!!

Lyle : Bet!

Lopez : Wainfleet no.

ZDog : your wearing a mask dumbass

Ja : technically he could just hold his breath

Lopez : technically you’re all idiots

Fike : he’ll be fine!

Lopez *deadpan* : he could die

Lyle : Nahh bro, mind over matter 😎

Lopez : no that not-..no…...just no

* Ja hyping Lyle up to take his mask off*

* Mansk already getting med kit ready *

Then just as Lyle has lifted the mask off Quaritch stomps over and slams that shit back down and is like

Quaritch : WAINFLEET! We’ve talked about this shit!! DO. NOT. EAT. STUFF. YOU. FIND. ON. THE. GROUND. If you can’t do it on Earth!! Why the fuck would you do it here!? *deep breath through nose* Fike! Stop enabling him! And Ja!!……

Ja : *innocent smile a puppy eyes *

Quaritch : no. No. You just- you can’t- that’s not-……*sight* EVERYONE BACK ON THE SHIP.

Lyle *shug*: could have been worse, we could have gotten the speach

Quaritch : mandatory do-not-eat-the-shit-you-find-on-the-ground presentation once we get back

ZDog : way to go dumbass

Lyle : your welcome

*everyone going back*

*lopez and Mansk further back*

Lopez : I heard he added more slides

Mansk : and pictures after….the incident

Lopez : God, don’t remind me

*collective shudder *

Brother mine

Okay but like what if Mansk and Ja were brothers, because i discovered big brother Mansk and loved it.(don’t ask why at this point I don’t even know why I keep making new ones) and for reasons I have yet to figure out, escaped death at the ship and joined the Metkayina tribe (again havent figured out why yet) and spider has kind of vouched for them cuz they were the only ones nice to him. Also I have this idea of Ja beeing the youngest on the squad, like he was shipped to Pandora @ 18, killed @ 19 almost 20 and his recom is around like 21? So Mansk is like 22-26 ish and acts childish around his brother but also protective?

*Tuk running in as fast as her legs can carry her in panic*

Tuk: dad! Dad! Come quick! They’re trying to kill each other!

Jake: what!? Who!? Tuk what’s going on!?

Tuk: no time! Just hurry!

*Tuk runs to beach, Jake and Neytiri following in panic*

Tuk: look! There! They were fighting and then it got worse!

*Tuk points to Mansk who is holding Ja Up in the air over his head*

Jake: what the-!?

*Mansk throws Ja into the water and jumps on top of him & begin holding him under*

Jake: jesus! What’s going on!

*jake & Neytiri rush to get closer, Mansk Pulls Ja’s head out the water*

Ja: get off asshole!

Mansk, grinning: then say uncle!

Ja: no!

*Mansk put Ja back under water, Jake stops Neytiri. Mansk pulls Ja up again*

Manak: ready to say uncle yet!

Ja: No! How about you suck my fat-

*Mansk puts Ja back under*

Mansk: language!

Neytiri, thoroughly confused: Ma Jake, what are you doing? Shouldn’t we stop them?

Jake Smiling: Nah, this is just brothers playing

Neytiri deadpan: Ma jake, this is drowning, not playing, do something.

Jake: yes dear. Hey Mansk!

Mansk: yeah?

jake: you good bro?

Mansk: I’m fine you?

Jake: uhh I’m great, what’s with the drowning buddy? He okay?

*Mansk pulls Ja out of water*

Mansk: you good bro?

Ja: better than your puny d-

*Mansk puts him back under*

Mansk: he’s fine! Used to be a swimmer, he’s freaky good at holding his breath!

Jake: ……right?

*jake see Neytiri still unimpressed*

Jake, Sighs: could we chill on the downing tho!

*Mansk get off Ja a pull him up*

Mansk: Next time your under till you say uncle

*Ja sticks tongue out*

Ja Smirks: whatever loser

*Mansk push Ja down as he gets out of water, Ja tackles Mansk to the sand and fighting continues *

Jake turn to Neytiri: well I tried

Neytiri huffs: I will never understand you sky people

*Neytiri Walks away and Jake goes to stand by Tonowari with the rest of the onlookers and watches the very entertaining fight that eventually turns into a betting game of who will win*

*Fight only ends when an annoyed Ronal tells everyone to get back to work and drags the to two taller Recoms by their ears to her pod so she can scold them*

*Everyone hands Tonowari their betting money in defeat, they should have Known Ronal would stop the fight*

Quaritch asks Mansk for advice on parenting

(Mansk has been looking after his lil brother Ja since the last members of there family died when Ja was 14 (from my fanfic brother mine))

I don’t know if I want to add this to my Fic later on or not, but I had this idea of Mansk and Quaritch just fondly watching Spider and Ja be total dumbasses and acting like kids.

Then Quaritch has a moment where he realises he didn’t really have anything of his own until he had spider, who he Keeps trying to claim isn’t really his.

So he realises he doesn’t want to mess spider up any more than the kid already is, and he can’t use the example his father set bc that would be awful and he doesn’t really know any good father figures to follow the examples of when it comes to his boy.

But Quaritch know that Mansk has been practically raising Ja since a few years before they went to Pandora, and even though mansk isn’t Ja’s father Quaritch knows how good of a bond the two share. He decides he wants that bond with Spider so he asks Mansk for parenting advice.

Mansk is genuinely shocked by this a takes a moment to really think about what Quaritch is asking before he explains something like this:

“I don’t know what I’m doing. Every day I wake up and I’m scared I’m gonna mess him up more than he already is. That I’m going to do something horribly wrong and he’ll never forgive me.”

“I spent years thinking what Ja needed was for me to be his father…but I was so wrong. We had a father, a really good one…but he’s gone. Ja knows that. Ja didn’t need me to be his father..he needed me to be his big brother. He needed me to stay with him they way I always had. He need that stability”

“So honestly, I don’t think I can give you the answer you want because I’m not a father, because we’re not the same people, Spider and Ja are not the same people. But I can tell you this, your gonna mess up, that’s just a fact. But your gonna learn, just like how you learned to deal with the Ja. Just like how I learned to be what Ja really needed me to be..not what I thought he needed..hell not even what I wanted to be.. I had to do what he needed me to so that we could make it to where we are.”

“You want my advice? Take it at his pace. Be what he needs you to be and forget about anything else. Don’t try to be someone else because that won’t work out. You want to be his father? Look after him, make sure he’s safe and fed. If your lucky, one day he might see you as what you want to be, one day you might realise what you were supposed to be…but until then you just gotta keep trying”

So again, I’m not sure if I would add this scene because the Fic is mainly focused on Ja and Mansk, but will pobs have lots of spider.

I just had to put this here bc I liked the idea, let me know what you thought or if you want more!
