This one's a real interesting prompt because I overthink this a lil too much - but here’s what I have for this year's KaiShin One Prompt Challenge!

Thoughts on it under the cut!

Right. Okay. I really struggled with this one. Not only in terms of time constrains (it's been a really busy time) but also because the prompt is reaallllly interesting. Like super interesting that I just jumped onto to join the event because I wanted to challenge myself (been in a slump lately and this prompt was screaming at me) and I was latching on real hard to something here:

Shinichi and Kaito look alike. So alike that Kaito has gotten mistaken as Shinichi before, and he has used it to his advantage too.

How do I use the prompt, while also remembering that they would look the same? I thought about going the crack route, as seen below:

Kaito: He is, unfortunately, very handsome ??: ... don't you guys look exactly the same? [Narcissist much?] K: oh. Right

But I wasn't up for it. I tried thinking about the idea of one of them looking like an absolute dork (affectionately), and then the line - but it kept feeling wrong to me, because I feel like that would be attractiveness. Handsome is too much of a physical word for me.

As Faith (@indelibleme) says, "this prompt is more for the "damn he's hot" type of vibe lol" - which is absolutely true.

So it's something about the physical appearance. Or at least that's what I want to focus on. But they look the same. (Kinda. You get the idea)

And then, it hit me. What if we make it so that Kaito likes Shinichi - everything from his intelligence to his appearance, and it's not because he looks like Kaito - he doesn't feel attracted to himself duh - but it's because it's how Shinichi looks. Kaito just happens to look like him. And is pining after him in the mirror.

Like. Does that even make sense? Probably. I don't know And right after that thought, I had that image of Kaito looking at the mirror and seeing Shinichi.

AND THEN THAT ONE FIC THAT POPPED UP IN MY HEAD KEPT REVOLVING IN MY HEAD WHENEVER I THINK OF THIS BECAUSE IT IS ABSOLUTELY NAILING IT I JUST HAD TO HUNT IT DOWN AGAIN yea. Here's the link to it: the only victim of these innocent crimes (is me) by dytabytes - it's an explicit fic so 18+ only and please read the tags and summary. I guess this drawing is an ode to that fic because when I went back to reread it, the premise really hit all the right spots.

Anyways, again, Kaito and Shinichi has their similarities, and they also have differences. This is just one route I went and m quite happy with what I have.

There was going to be an exposition and conclusion that used the prompt more explicitly, featuring the crack portion, before what I have - but time and energy. I am lacking of them.

A secret santa gift for @/habri in the @coai discord server!! Thank you for the prompts - I went for fairy tale and historical by trying to do a stained glass esque style featuring a Witch!Shiho and Prince!Shinichi, set after the whole taking down the (fantasy) black organisation.

It was certainly interesting to learn how to imitate a stained glass - perhaps not the most obvious too, but I hope you like it hehe

It's been a long ride, but I'm very proud to share my half for this year's @kaishinbigbang!!!

It was really fun working with @indelibleme on this project, whom I can't thank enough for being such a wonderful partner to work with and laugh with.

Close ups of my favourite parts underneathe!

A joke that I often ask myself: why in the world are your hands realistic (as I term it to be)?! Especially when the face isn't?! What whiplash of style do you want to give people?!?!

But then I get so satisfied seeing the hands that I just forgive myself :>

Also please look at the flower and the wine glass (esp the neck of it) because I am absolutely proud of myself on them.

Next is the expressions/vibes focused pics!

For the pic on the left, I wanted it to be have very strong tension - hence the choice of having bold lineart (I DID LINEART!?) to highlight the edge.

Actually it's also because Faith wrote that scene and I couldn't not draw it that I literally sat 12 hours a day drawing this as the deadline approaches. Because I really can't - LIKE LOOK AT THAT TENSION RIGHT THERE! LOOK AT KAITO LOSING CONTROL AND CRY FOR HIM!

Then for the drawing on the right - the whole reason why I even included a close-up section because his face was too small but I want the vibes of the whole drawing- I want to show y'all the really soft, surprised yet hopeful Kaito. Look at him! I want to hug him so badly after all the requested angst he's gone through!

Sketch designs that started formulating in my brain when I saw Stewards matching skin with Adnachiel

So far I'm stuck on Cardigan's shield and Melantha's outfit - especially on her bottoms. Short skirt (till thigh) or long skirt (over knees or 3/4 length); a side slit like Nealter's (so she'd be wearing a short underneath) or a side flared skirt like Pallas.

Decisions decisions.

I initially only had Cardigan's sketch because I really like her and felt that she deserves one, especially when she did so much for the boys! LIKE PLEASE I WANNA HEAR MORE INTERACTIONS THEY HAVE WITH CARDIGAN IN THEIR VOICELINE AND OP REC PLEASE! *ahem*

But then I felt sad that Melantha and Ansel would be left out so....

Though I guess Ansel is left out now since I haven't really managed to brainstorm on Ansel's outfit - I'll do that later

So because @indelibleme is too good at writing characters and murder mysteries (I STILL CANNOT COMPREHEND - I WATCHED HER TYPE AND IT'S JUST VROOOOOOOOM AND SHE TELLS ME IT'S ON THE SPOT WRITING AND I'M ?!?!?!????!) - I got attached to two side characters in the story

And I drew a fanart of them

And then Faith indulged me and wrote an omake about them

AND OF COURSE I HAD TO DRAW MORE

AND THEN FAITH WROTE EVEN MORE AND SPOIL ME

AND THEN - you get the drill

I literally cried when Yoshida started confessing, harder when Shinichi reveals that Shimura loved Yoshida all along.

The fact that Shimura rather die because she loves Yoshida and fears about her love not being reciprocated. The fact that Yoshida was willing to murder someone just for Shimura.

The lengths they both go for each other ;A;

I just feel so sad for the two of them and what could have been for them - if only they communicated, if only Shimura confessed to Yoshida, if only Yoshida had confronted Shimura about her hanahaki.

Things would have been different.

In the end, their love for each other resulted in a tragedy for both.

Faith is seriously a genius for setting this situation up to set a really good parallel for Kaito's and Shinichi's situation.

Both Shinichi and Yoshida knew about the other's hanahaki, but never thought about the possibility that it could be for them.

Kaito and Shimura never had hopes of their love being reciprocated, and yet they continue to gravitate towards their respective crush despite how much it hurts.

But that's also where Faith shows how different the two pairs are.

Shinichi and Kaito took a step forward, showing each other their vulnerabilities and fears, and communicating to resolve misunderstandings.

Shimura and Yoshida did not, choosing to hold on to it until the end. How would Shimura feel knowing that her childhood friend was killed with a poison that originates from the same flowers she's been "cultivating"? How would Yoshida feel - knowing she had killed someone, only to find out that she was the one Shimura had died for and to not know what the true meaning of the flower Shimura grew for her?

This whole fic is about communication - and Faith executed it very well - showing it not only between the two pairs, but also with how Kaito interacts with Aoko, Shinichi interacts with Ran - but that's somewhat another thing that I won't elaborate for now.

I'm no good with words and I can't describe how much I appreciate to have Faith as my partner - I can't thank her enough for being such an amazing person and for indulging my request and being just so wonderful and just everything!
