i shared the line on the server but i need you all to see feral fed-up, War of Wrath burnout Eönwë because that's my fav.
"How confident are you in the ability to keep your head safely attached to the rest of your body?" Eönwë warned, his grip on the pommel of his sword tightening. Melkor sneered, the malevolent aura around him gaining substance [...]

For day 7 of @tolkienfamilyweek freeform (in which I totally am not so late for what was supposed to be day 2.)
[ implied Arien x Mairon | Arien & Amarëa (oc daughter) ]
↠ companion artwork
Tumblr media
➼ In the sun light, find my love always.
Amarëa was still so tiny, Arien thought when she cradled her against her chest, feeling as if she was about to burst from happiness and love at the sight of her baby daughter quietly sleeping. Laurelin was in full bloom, casting the lovely golden hue over the room Arien was now occupying at Yavanna's behest.
She could stare at her newly born tiny Maia for eternity and find as much joy in it as the first time she felt the echo of her eäla take shape. This was everything she had wished and hoped for, and Arien felt crystals of tears gather at the corner of her eyes.
There was a knock on the door — sharp and precise, revealing whom stood behind it and with a brush of Osanwë, she invited him inside.
Mairon must have been back from the Forges given his appearance, a simple burgundy tunic over brown trousers and his hair braided severely along his neck.
"You know she has a cradle to sleep in." He nodded to the sublime wooden furniture he had crafted, but Arien could not bring herself to let Amarëa go.
"She needs warmth." She replied instead. Not entirely untrue, as newborn Ainu, the small Maia was unable to fully master her control over her fana. Which more than not resulted in her reverting to her spirit form — a harmless endeavour for Arien and Mairon, both fire spirits but one they had to keep on the lookout. A certain incident involving Eönwë had been a source of amusement for Mairon for weeks.
"And you need to tend to your duties."
Mairon was right. Unfortunately.
"Fine." She sighed, not bothering to keep herself from rolling her eyes. "You better not drop her."
The look Mairon gave her was a mix of annoyance and outrage but Arien had long been immune to it and with great care, gently moved her little burden, making sure Amarëa was well covered and still asleep.
"I think I'll manage."
"You better. As much as it would amuse me to see how hot I have to burn to cause physical damage to you, ô Admirable, I'd rather not have Yavanna sue me for damaging her precious golden son." Arien quipped, smirking at him when he gave her an unimpressed look.
"Just go."
"Hush." She bent to drop a light kiss on Amarëa's forehead. "I'll see you soon yēl."
A kiss was given on Mairon's cheek and with another cheery threat to the safety of his existence if anything were to happen to Amarëa, she went off to tend to Tulukhedelgorûs*.

I'm working on the outline and some flashbacks but decided to take out this part since I'm changing many things but I'm sharing it because Melian Mairon spitey interactions are funny.
"Are you asking me to keep your daughter safe from your own m— Actually, I would rather not name whatever relationship exists between you and Melkor."
"And I thank you for your judgment-free speech, Elf-Queen." Mairon bit back, feeling an old familiar spike of annoyance at the Maia. Melian, Queen of Doriath, then made an exasperated sound while throwing her hands in the air.
"Fine. I'll do it. For Arien and definitely not for you. If it were up to me I'd send you back to Aulë stuck in the fana of a bug."
Mairon gave her an unimpressed stare and rolled his eyes.
"That's the best you can do? Doriath can rest safely then with such dreaded sorcery."
"You little—"
Mairon turned around and casually waved, not waiting for whatever less than a witty comeback his so-called kin would fumble with.
"I'm leaving." But before he could go back to Angband, the air around them shifted and with an annoyed sigh he turned back to Melian.
The Queen had a stern face, eyes alight with Foresight that was her gift.
"Stay on that path and thou will come to regret it Mairon."
He swallowed back the unexpected wave of uneasiness, hid it on the deep small corner of his mind that was missing the light of the Trees and fixed her with a blank stare.
"And I am regretting this conversation." And with that, he stepped out of the tree lines and into the rising Moon then vanished back to Angband, determined to forget Melian's words. He had work to do.

New ÚMaiar OCs unlocked:
- Aralíntië: initially a Celestial Maia who joined Melkor before they entered Arda. He's dealing with gravity.

"As always awaiting your orders my Lord." Gothmog bowed, his face split in half in a vicious grin over the slumped form of Arien.
Melkor was humming, power coiling tight around his form and a sudden laugh burst forth as he stood up from his throne and made his way down the iron stairs.
"Oh I think I shall take care of this myself. Do be a dear though and go fetch me Mairon. There are certain allegiances he needs to ... be reminded of." The last words were whispered in dark velvet tones, one hand forcing Arien's head back so she had to look at him.
"Urwendi... my dear, allow me to welcome you to Angband. But I must ask. Did you actually believe you could sneak in my Lands and sway Mairon back to you?"
Arien glared back, hissing in anger when Melkor's fingers brushed against her cheek in a mockery of tenderness.
"Still, I could use you by my side. My offer still stands. I might even be willing to share my precious Mairon if this is what you desire."
"Fuck you." Arien snarled, then spat at his face. "I'd rather be unmade than end up serving the sorry excuse of the úvala that you are."
Those who read PYL (or the legendarium) might know which scene this is 😅 im obviously not going to write what goes afterwards (just enough to give Mairon even more trauma bc that's always fun ) I'm so sorry Arien.

I had hurt and angry feelings to process so here's a snippet of Morgoth not being nice with Mairon. Timeline: After Arien's capture by Gothmog, around YT 1496 (before the coming of Fëanor and co in Beleriand) tw: mention of past assault / abusive relationship / emotional manipulation / Melkor being Morgoth
Tumblr media
"You get to choose Mairon, stay by my side and have all the freedom you once craved, show me your renewed diligence and loyalty. Or further pay the consequences of your disappointing betrayal."
Melkor dragged an ashy finger against his dirtied cheek, "Make your choice, my Precious." But even as he said it, his hand came to grasp Mairon's face, sharp nails burying in the skin and reopening earlier wounds then forced him to look up at the Dark Vala. Where was once ambition and majesty in those mesmerising eyes had now faded away to make room for a perpetual gleam of madness.
Melkor's immense power seemed to be consuming his mind now, dragging the Vala deeper into a state of wasting nihilism.
It broke Mairon's heart.
"I.." Mairon considered his next words with caution, his initial instincts, the ones made of an Age spent in fear, anxiety and horrendous guilt kept his mind reeling at the prospect of remaining in Angband. The images of Arien's assault by his lover threatened the fragile grasp on his own sanity and he shoved them away, deep in the darkest corner of his mind.
But his Oath, carved through his spirit tugged and pushed back against the mere idea of abandoning Melkor.
Melkor's fingers tightened against his bruised cheeks, eliciting a half gasp of pain, and Mairon knew there was no real way for him to walk back to Aman. Not alive. Not wounded beyond even the skills of Estë.
There was no way back for him, only that which kept him by Melkor's side. As a Lieutenant, the mockery of a half-willing lover or merely a prisoner, he knew not. Something seemed to flicker in Melkor's eyes, a gleeful realisation that Mairon would not refuse him again. And as he felt his own heart dissolved into ashes and burnt remnants, Mairon let out a quiet reaffirmation of his Oath.
"Good." Melkor smiled then, sharp teeth glittering in the dingy darkness of the cell. "We have much to do. Go clean up and meet me in the war room." Without awaiting for any answer, the Dark Vala walked out of the cell, leaving Mairon to crumple on the bloodied floor.

Genesis of Fire. :-) Speak, friend.
OT, but I translated it into Proto-Germanic (my new obsession): *Sprek, frijōndz, andi felh*.
You and linguistics ❤️
Genesis of Fire is a Mairon x Arien bg fic part of my serie Airă'nár. It's from their "birth," the Ainulindalë and onto the creation of Arda and their settling on Almaren. I'm exploring the role of Mairon as the carrier of the Flame, Arien's attraction toward him (no one can blame you gurl), their friendship, and her role in the cosmogeny as well. Its a prologue to the prologue, let's say. I just wanted to explore a bit more in detail what is happening in Ignis Memoriam, to cement the fact they were friends before he fell for Melkor. I have just a few lines written for now, as well as the outline.

Based on my earlier Myths Transformed post that gave me the inspiration to write that scene.
Tumblr media
She sensed his arrival minutes before his actual appearance near her station. Melkor — no, Morgoth's sejourn in the Void had made him unrecognisable. Long gone was the mighty spirit, instead had only survived malice and cunning compressed so tightly into an angry pulsar that Arien had to take a step back, iching closer to the sun for reassurance.
"Arien." His voice echoed around them, like ripples through dark matters.
"Long have I wished you by my side. Together we shall rule uncontested upon Arda's majesty."
Disgust rolled through her, then disbelief and finally fury at his entitlement. She knew of his obsessive coveting of fire spirits, Arien had lost many of her kin to his vile manipulation after all.
"How arrogant of you to even entertain such desire for i have no intention to join you, and this for ever. You are a vile nightmare Melkor, and the only majesty you talk of is destruction between your hands. Leave!"
Melkor remained quiet for a second until blinding fury erupted around him, crowning him in a halo of a black hole.
"How dare you speak in such manner to me foolish woman!" He bellowed yet Arien held herself, though afraid of him she would not vacate her position.
"I am not Mairon, you cannot tempt me." she hissed, calling her fires to her to dance around her body in blazing flares. "Go back crawling to the Void fiend!"
The sheer malice emitted from the creature known as Morgoth only increased at her words and Arien pulled more fire to her as an armour. She suddenly wished for Tilion's presence, or even Eärendil as to warn of the imminent return of the dreaded one. At long last the Final Battle was upon them.
Arien had one last task left to her, one duty and she harnessed all of her inner light so that she was a blinding sight in the dark of the cosmos and the sun grew in size.
Yet Melkor's darkness had spread and to him he had called many spirits she had never seen before.
She countered the damages of these lesser spirits attacked with her own, setting the fabric of space ablaze in vivid colours but ut was not enough. Not again him, and so when Melkor made his move, hands seizing her Arien let out a loud call for one she knew would always come to her rescue.
"Eönwë!"

Out of context – disjointed writing – out of chronological order snippet of the reboot of All The Fire Bright 2.0 (silm version). I'm not doing so well emotionally, so I needed to write about smol Amarëa being a cutie and protective uncle Ossë 🥺. Roughly taking place not long after Melkor fleeing Valinor and before the Darkening.
"Hey kiddo."
The words had barely left Ossë that the small ball of hyper fire that was his niece catapulted herself in his arms with a loud 'Uncle Ossë!!' blasted in his mind. With a chuckle, he hoisted her on his shoulders, adjusting his fana to prevent immediate toasting from the tiny fire Maia. Amarëa was as adorable as a child of Arien could be, yet as weirdly intense as her father — or most likely still unable to fully grasp the entire range of her nature.
Case in point, the nearly incoherent string of abstract thoughts rushing through his mind that was — for now — Amarëa's way of communication.
From it, he picked how happy she was to see him, her excitement at being promised to spend the next day visiting Tirion with Uncle Eön (this, Ossë could not relate), an undercurrent of loneliness that was the unfortunate consequences of his brother's terrible career choice, and what felt like a mix of child's imagination regarding the pretend life of her frog plush toy.
"Happy to see you too little spark."
Amarëa's eäla brightened in affection, her small hands tugging at the pale blue strands of his hair as she wordlessly babbled about how Yavanna had shown her various type of plants early that day.
He plopped on the grass where Arien sat, a small smile tugging at her lips at her daughter's actions.
Plucking the tiny Maia off his shoulders to hand her back to her mother, Ossë then gave her a questioning look.
"You got Eönwë on kid watch duties tomorrow?"
Arien chuckled, fingers combing through the wild locks of the rather uncooperative child on her lap.
"More or less. I'm going to be with Ilmarë and Nilmírëa all day, and Yavanna will be busy at the Māchananaškad with the rest of the Aratar."
Ossë made a non-committal noise, aware of the topic discussed, the strife of the Noldor. In his opinion they should care more about trying to find where had Melkor run to, there was anxiety spiking in the back of his mind, some awareness that the Vala had not simply gone back to Angband — no, Ossë knew Melkor well, and the fact Mairon had gone as well was not a good sign for them all.
Amarëa made a displeased huff when Arien tried to braid her hair tighter.
"Is Manwë aware you are using his Herald to run your errands?"
"Since our dear King found necessary to pry into my private life with invasive questions regarding my daughter, I have decided to spare him with such obvious superfluous information." Arien replied with sarcasm and Ossë cackled.
Arien had Eönwë wrapped around her little finger, and Tilion, and possibly Catalma, Oryalda, Olórin and most of the households of Yavanna and Vána. Even some of the Aulendil from what Uinen told him.
That is until Mairon fuck it up for the second time. Ossë had not really decided what to do with his brother yet, but one thing was certain, if Mairon publicly retook his place as Melkor's Lieutenant, things would grow more complicated. Ossë did not trust himself to go near Angband — for he knew without a doubt it was where Mairon currently was — not without fearing a relapse on his part at any rate, so for now he stewed in anger and swore that the minute Melkor would show any interest toward Mairon's kid he would raise hell on waters.

pairing: Mairon / Arien 🧡💛
rating: barely M
wordcount: 6k
summary:
“Aren’t you supposed to help Vána?” Arien hid her smile against his sleeve and gave a low chuckle, “Maybe I wanted to spend today in better company.” A snort, “Arien, if that was the case you would not be here with me.” “Low confidence is not part of your charm Mairon, especially when I know you do think very highly of yourself.” Mairon was fully smirking at her by then as he reached for a curl of her hair and tugged playfully.

"Is there anything I can do?"
Eönwë looked away, eyes wide and Arien had the urge to tuck him in an embrace and sooth the obvious tension off his shoulders.
"I think I'm quite capable to handle this."
She smiled. "I know."
"I'm just delivering a message."
"To Melkor."
"To Melkor." Eönwë echoed, absentmindedly chewing on one nail. Arien clicked her tongue and snatched his hand away from his mouth with a frown. Eönwë had the terrible quirk of biting on his nails when anxious, and despite the circumstances that forced her away from Valimar in the present moment, she could not prevent to feel frustrated. Herald, Eönwë might be, but she rather thought that Manwë ought to be the one treating directly with his wayward brother.

About All the Fire Bright, now that Nano is over.
Yes I know its now above 50k words written *pats self on the shoulder* I will however continue on the path I set myself after taking it down and spiraling out of control in depression= I intend to finish it completely - at least being sure that whatever remained to be written would be manageable / bonus content for the global serie Airă'nár before posting it back on ao3.
For now I really enjoy writing it for myself and sharing little tidbits now and then and dragging more and more people in the mairon x eönwë x arien ot3 😏🤭

When you finish rewriting All the Fire Bright, are you going to repost it on AO3? Or just update it there? Could you please tag me when/if you post it?
I will repost it on ao3, its part 3 or 4 of the Airă'nár serie iirc. And I will tag you ♡
Though in pure honesty, I haven't made any progress in a while and I'm looking for a way to break this into smaller chunks that would be less daunting to write.
And i started a new job that is asking a lot out of me so I'm just a little bit slower overall with my creative projects atm.
Thanks for your ask 💛
