Deep Night turned out to be an unexpectedly solid little BL. We got a stand on the social acceptability of host (and by extension hostess) work, lovely parents, evil aunties and influencers and a nod, at least, to sex work*

An MC with great chemistry who communicated well *gasp* , a surprise throuple (interesting that it was proposed by Japan who went from not knowing what one was to jumping straight in within one episode - I blame** the sex daydream). Plus a GL couple with lovely Freya and Meiji and not forgetting the fabulous Dai who deserved their own harem.

I liked the fact that Shogun, First and Sun had clearly trained for their stage work and that it was obviously them doing the stunts. Kudos.

Of course it wasn't perfect - the story was flimsy, the aunt was straight out of a different series - possibly a really terrible lakorn - and hard to take seriously, the timelines were borked and the bar's kitchen was clearly just someone's kitchen at home with loads of flowers plonked on the surfaces. And one day someone in BL will work out how to do convincing club scenes - unfortunately today was not that day. However, the rather excellent handjob in ep 8 made me forgive all sorts of Cheewin sins. And as someone who's been a First Piyankul fan since Y Destiny it's great to see him in another main role. More please.

*cleaning up the club' and an acknowledgement by Freya that it had got chaotic implied that there had been less than legal stuff going on. Would clearly have been a step too far to acknowledge sex work as work although allowing clients to paw and maul the hosts was apparently fine.

**blame might not be the right word - applaud maybe?

THANAWIN WONGSKULPHAT aka CHEEWIN owner of COPY A BANGKOK (Thai Production House and Casting Agency) and a director & once an acting coach has brought us another promising BL. Cheewin has directed some gems and some pits. Some gems for me include WHY RU? (ZEE AND SAINT WERE FIRE) SECRET CRUSH ON YOU (BILLY AND SENG...DAMN I LOVED THEM) BED FRIEND (NET & JAMES) most recently the controversial PLAYBOYY and now DEEP NIGHT

Khem (newbie PARAMEE THESDAROON aka SHOGUN) at first has an adversarial encounter with Wela (PIYANGKUL SAOHIN aka FIRST) at their university. But they meet again at the DEEP NIGHT CLUB owned by Khem's glamorous mother.

Khem is not free with the information that he may one day own the club where Wela is a popular host. And admired for his acrobatic skills and sexy demeanor.

Wela is further left in the dark when Khem is hired as a parking lot attendant at the popular club. Khem has come to see Wela with a new set of eyes. Gone is the first impression of the bespectacled university student and replaced with eyes of desire.

But there are other hosts including Seiji (TEERAPAT ANGKANIT aka SEAGAMES last seen on THE PROMISE as a NAN admirer and PHU'S little brother)

And Japan (BHURICHON KHUMSIRI aka NEPTUNE), Ken (SIAM PIPATCHAROENWONG aka CHALARM), Great (TANANAT LERTRUNGVICHIEN aka SUN) and James (DAN AARON RAMNARONG aka NATHAN)

As Khem falls for Wela, and Wela obviously going to fall for him. What are the odds that Wela may also be desired by another of these cute hosts in DEEP NIGHT CLUB.

Are you watching this one @pose4photoml for some reason SHOGUNFIRST are giving me tiny PONDPHUWIN vibes. I'd love your opinion.

I've been faffing about trying to decide what to binge next so have started Deep Night instead. Honestly, it's purely for First Piyangkul, who was the very best thing in Y Destiny and hasn't been cast as much as he deserves to be. He's very pretty (if Net's looking for a new partner now James has stepped back he could do much worse than First P - I'm just saying).

Anyway, pretty AND, it turns out, can do some aerial strap work so clearly has good core strength. I suspect he'll need it in the weeks to come.

It's moving fast - I cannot tell you how much I appreciated Wela's quick front and back check the morning after the night before in Ep 2. And they're very sweet together which means, I fear, that there will be PAIN coming. I'm enjoying Pan and Seji as well but Ken is an unknown quantity - i'm getting jealous vibes from him and, frankly, don't think Japan would be down for a throuple (more's the pity).

So - on to ep 3 where I'm promised a date with candles and a visit to the gayest bridge in Bangkok. Lovely.
