The day started out like any other. She awoke with delicate sunlight peeking through the curtains of her and Silvio’s shared room. Silvo’s arm around her waist pulled her in even closer, his lips ghosting kisses over her neck as he sleepily mumbled into her skin words of good morning.
Everything was going fine, until the first gray clouds appeared in the sky, gloomy and daunting. The first bad omen. Then, as she was on her way to the kitchen, she tripped over an upturned rug and ended up spilling a glass of lemonade on the front of her new dress, gifted from her beloved. The second bad omen.
“I think we’ll have ta literally take a rain check,” Silvio noted, glancing out the window as fat drops of rain poured down into the ocean. “It’s not safe to be out in the water like this.”
There it was, the third bad omen. Three things, that on their own, would’ve seemed small and insignificant, but all of them put together put the unwavering feeling of doom deep inside her chest. She had told herself not to cry, that crying over spilled lemonade was stupid, and expected of a little girl, not the King of Benitoite’s partner. And yet, as Silvo turned to meet her eyes with his own foamy sea blue, the heat behind her eyes pricked up, and she hurriedly blushed to blink them away.
“Aw, c’mon.” Silvio said, stepping towards the woman. “Ya can’t cry over a little bit of rain. I’ll take ya out sailing another day.” He placed his hands on her hips, her eyes shining with unshed tears. “Tell ya what, how about we clear the staff outta the kitchen and you and I bake some of those pastries from Rhodolite we both like. Sounds like a plan?” She sniffled and before she could even agree, Silvio was gone, hastily making his way towards the kitchen to make sure it was clear and in proper use for his partner.
Hanging up her soiled dress on the back of the bathroom door, she quickly changed into something that could be easily cleaned if Silvio decided to be a scoundrel and make a mess of the ingredients, and followed out the door, humming to herself as she made her way to the kitchen. Silvio was already working away, spreading flour along the counter and as she walked in, he turned to her with a mischievous grin, grabbing a handful of flour and immediately blowing it in her direction. The flour made a white puff in the air, settling on her bangs, cheeks, and eyelashes and before she could even respond, Silvio lifted her into his arms, nuzzling his nose affectionately against her cheek as his hand cupped her butt, squeezing playfully once. “C’mon, lemme see that pretty smile you save for me.”
Silvio’s coo had her blushing bashfully, biting her lip as his hand continued to explore her body, just enough to run shivers down her spine, the sensation more teasing than she had anticipated. “You’re such a tease, Silvio.” She whined, leaning in and nipping her teeth against his sensitive neck. “Thought we were gonna bake.”
Silvio grinned, all teeth and pride at her reaction, pressing his forehead against her own white powdered one. “That’s what this is, sweetheart.” His voice was dripping like honey, and it had her wanting to drop to her knees and praise him for a moment, yet she restrained herself, rubbing her nose against her own, spreading the powder that was dusting her face onto his.
“Then put me down and let’s do some actual baking.” She grinned at him this time, the worries from the morning dissipating from her mind for the moment and she started throwing directions around at Silvio while she prepped the dough. “I love it when you’re bossy. Imagine when I talk about ya. ‘She’s so sexy when she bosses me around, makes me wanna-’.” “Silvio!” She admonished him, his impish grin and childish laugher causing her own facade to slip as they continued cutting out the dough, and chatting idly all the while.
It wasn’t until later that evening that the kitchen smelled of sweet bread, honey, and roses, that she and Silvio quietly made their way to their shared bedroom, a silver platter in Silvio’s hand as his other arm wrapped protectively around her waist.
She had stopped and turned though, looking expectantly at Rio, who had called her name from down the hallway, rushing quickly at the pair with a frantic look in his eyes. “If you two are going to fool around in the kitchen, at least don’t be obvious. You can see Silvio’s handprints all over your backside!” Rio scolded them, rolling his eyes as Silvio grinned confidently a challenging look in his eyes.
“Yeah, you can see them because she’s mine. Got a problem with it, mutt?” He asked, his fingers ghosting over the glittery necklace adorning his partner’s neck.
“I just think it’s unsightly behavior.” Rio smiled, yet it didn’t reach his eyes. “No way for a King and his future Queen to be acting.” “I can do whatever I want. Like you said, I’m the King, and if I want to fool around with my woman, I can do so wherever I want.” Silvio leaned in, pressing a possessive kiss to her neck as she flushed red, shooting Rio an apologetic glance as his eyes cast down towards the floor. “Now if you’ll excuse us mutt…” “I’m only letting you get away with acting like a pig because I can tell she loves you, and that you love her back!” Rio exclaimed, turning on his heel, grateful to have the last word for once.
Silvio pulled her in closer, her arms going to twine around his neck, the silver platter gleaming brightly in the now quiet hallway. “I do love ya,” he told her sweetly, leaning in to press a longing kiss to her lips. “I know you do.” She responded, giggling as he poked her in the side, trying to get her to say what he wanted to hear. “And I love you too, you big sap.” “Tell anyone, and you’re dead.” Silvio threatened, once again guiding her back to their bedroom, pushing the door open with his foot, his hand never once leaving her body.
“You wouldn’t kill me, you’d be lost without me.” She objected, running to throw herself onto the bed as Silvio quickly followed suit, kicking off his shoes and unbuttoning as he approached her, eying her like a beast would its prey.
Without responding, he kneeled on the bed, one leg nestling its way between both of hers, his hands caging on either side of her head as he bowed his head down to kiss at the hollow of her neck, relishing in the way her pulse sped up and her breathing grew shallow. “Maybe you need to remind me of what I’d be missing if I killed you.” He was teasing, his tongue dancing over her neck and collarbones as every word he spoke seeped into her skin. Despite the harsh words, his voice was soft, loving, and she knew he never meant it. She opted not to tell him this time, instead choosing to thread her fingers through his hair, tugging his head up sharply so his lips met her own softly, before harshly crushing his mouth against hers. Their kiss was all teeth, and tongue, and passion, and yet it had Silvio aching for more, pressing his knee up further between her legs, the gasp she let out against his lips letting him know he reached his goal as her body responded in tandem with his own.
Pulling his lips from her own, Silvio’s devilish grin met her sight, the way his eyes narrowed sending butterflies through her stomach. “I managed to distract ya.” He said tauntingly, laughing at the dazed expression on his woman’s face.
“Huh?” She questioned, trying to pull his face back down to hers, yet Silvio dodged her grasp and needy gaze.
“You were all sad and pouty and pathetically cute about us missing our boating trip today, so I found a way to distract ya. Thought the baking would’ve done more, but I guess you just can’t stay away from me, eh? Am I that irresistible?”
“Shut up,” she responded, the blush on her face evident as Silvio’s thigh rubbed gently against her sweet spot once more.
“Make me,” Silvio teased back, but before she could even do anything, he was leaning down to cover her face in doting kisses once more.

Hey, Nares here. I’m known more for my arting than anything else but I find writing to be a bit less dreadful sometimes.
Here I compile all my short fics, both fan and original, as well as some longer projects, into a nice clean archive for everyone to find. It is ordered newest to oldest.
I currently write for Ikemen Vampire but I deal more with my own OCs, historical references, and pure self-indulgence. Also mostly m/m.
LONG FICS
on Violence
Ongoing longfic written in screenplay format. Where most of Adam (my OC) lore is at.
Fandom: Ikemen Prince | Nokto Klein/Original Male Character | AO3
Tags: scriptfic, Political stuff, slow burn format, Route spoilers
"The enemy of my enemy is my friend."
One man's last fight against Obsidian's imperial control drags the Rhodolite 'noble beasts' into the fray. Thinking that he is useful for their own cause, Nokto plays along with his schemes, until both of them are not sure anymore which one of them are playing each other.
Symptoms of Rosette Disease (Discontinued)
ikepri fic I’m doing for fun.... not too polished or edited. I consider it a rough draft honestly. The pairing is Nokto and my OC called Adam who is a nobleman in Rhodolite. Currently only on AO3.
Fandom: Ikemen Prince | Nokto Klein/Original Male Character | AO3
Tags: Friends With Benefits, Slow Burn, Bigotry & Prejudice, Historical war fiction, Sexual Content
Stems starts to rapidly elongate, thickening, parting further into thick, red growths covered in thorns and distorted leaves, red and sharp and alien. Roses that grew from them are malformed. Their buds frizz into witches' brooms. There is no cure. It all needs uprooting.
The Day of the Bloodstained Rose had since planted seeds of fear, resentment, and hostility in everyone. Now they're rearing its heads, faced with the inevitable and pressing, upcoming war. If anyone is most equipped to navigate around these malformed growths in people, particularly the ruling class, it's Nokto Klein.
A Speck of that Autumn (Discontinued)
novel-length napolington fic. Currently only on AO3.
Fandom: Ikemen Vampire | Napoleon Bonaparte/Arthur Wellesley | AO3
Tags: enemies to friends to lovers, murder mystery, angst, violence, PTSD, eventual smut
A murder in Paris, seemingly done by a vampire, yet with not much of a lead regarding the culprit, had left Napoleon bitter. The newest resident allegedly being related to it didn't help.
Being forced to sate his own suspicions, he gradually found out that the rigid nature of his once-adversary was something he could tolerate after all. Perhaps very well.

The Smell of Seawater - Ikémen Prince
Tumblr media
Pairing: Silvio Ricci x Emma Summary: An AU, in which their love is a game to the king, where Silvio must date a group of women to decide who the future queen will be. Silvio never expected to fall in love, and yet here he is, pledging his life vow to the woman everyone thought would be the first eliminated
Word count: 2.1k
Warnings: Mentions of throw up, corsets, and self doubt
A note from the author: Something small for my favorite, @xbalayage. You've done so much lately, you deserve something for yourself.
Tumblr media
Standing beside the other two girls, Emma felt out of place. All three of them were holding hands, gripping each other nervously with warm and sweaty hands. It felt suffocating to her, and Emma dropped Annalise’s hand and met her confused look with a small smile.
“Sorry, sweaty hands,” She explained apologetically. This gave her a moment to break free from the stress, and kick off her shoes, the warm sand tickling her bare feet as she walked away from the ever forming crowd. Annalise wouldn’t be caught dead walking off near the ocean, soiling her perfect pink dress; Emma didn’t want her dress ruined, but a little bit of sand and water never hurt anyone.
She was thankful for the fact that she didn’t have much breakfast this morning, despite the cherry tarts being absolutely scrumptious. If she were to have eaten much more, the ground would be decorated with some half-digested pastry with the way her stomach was bubbling under the corset Emma was stuffed into before breakfast.
Silvio would be coming to greet the three of them soon, and in the same conversation, send two of them back to the life they had before they met him. Despite telling herself she would be okay if he chose either of the other two, Emma knew if she wasn’t the one whose name fell off of his lips when he announced who had stolen his heart - or who he at least liked enough to have rule Benitoite by his side - during all of this time together that she wouldn’t be able to force a smile on her face and support the woman he chose.
Yet, she was also terrified of what it would mean if he did say her name. She’d be ripped from her commoner life, and put into fancy dresses every day that was worth more than her parents house and retirement combined. She would have to learn elegance, and class. Two things that Silvio can’t help but remind her she lacks with a teasing tone and a barely-there smile.
The sand underneath her feet was calming, and she bent over to cup a handful of it, only to let it fall from her hand a moment later. Hand selected, then forced back to a life of mundane. It was almost like how things will be for two of the girls being sent home soon. It was almost calming in a way; knowing this was something Emma could control, yet also so many factors could stop the sand from reaching the ground once again. Nothing she couldn’t handle though, and that was comforting when everything else around her was out of her control.
“Miss Emma?” One of the guards approached her. She had seen him around once or twice, but had never had a chance to ask his name. “His Majesty is –”
“You can call me Emma,” She interjected, a jumble of nerves twisting at the mention of Silvio.
“Yes, Miss Emma, I apologize,” He bowed before her, and over his shoulder, Emma saw a flash of Silvio’s light hair, glinting more blue in the sunlight than the usual gray. “I was sent over to tell you to prepare yourself…”
Whatever else the guard was saying fell on deaf ears as she saw, not heard, her name leaving Silvio’s lips from a distance away, their eyes meeting across the palace grounds, then she watched as his eyes skimmed down her body, stopping at her bare feet, and a small - almost imperceptible - smile adorned his lips. Her heartbeat sped up, a loud ba-dum, ba-dum in her throat as Silvio started walking towards her, his pace picking up as she pushed herself through the sinking sand, the tulle of her dress sticking up awkwardly in some places from being crushed, yet she didn’t care. Not when Silvio was coming towards her, looking at her like she was the only woman in the world. Not when she felt like destiny was rushing toward her.
He was closer now, the sun was making the jewels on his lapels shine even brighter and she could make out the pink flush of his cheeks, and the sparkle in his eyes he always tried so hard to hide. It was warm out, and he was starting to sweat, as given away by his hair being less than perfect and flopping down over his forehead in separated strands. She loved when he looked disheveled, it made him seem more his age, and less like a sculpture, less like a shell of a tyrant - a human. He was here, and he was real and his arms were wrapping around Emma’s waist and pulling her against him, sand and salty sea water be damned.
She felt him before she tasted him, his solid body flushed with hers and before she could even try to search his eyes for an answer, his hands were cupping her cheeks and gently but urgently pulling her lips towards his own. Whether it was a statement to the rest of the world that she was the one he truly loved, or a claim of possession - or maybe even both, Emma didn’t know. All she cared about as she wrapped her arms around his waist was that they didn’t have to stay quiet about their adoration for each other anymore. Silvio doing this made it clear that she was the one who stole his heart, and he was going to hold onto hers.
Pulling apart, Silvio was slightly breathless, pressing his forehead against her own. His sweaty bangs would mess with the makeup perfectly applied by her maids earlier this morning, and she was sure the King would have something to say about that after the pictures were printed in the paper - “shiny foreheads are not befitting of a future queen.”, but at this moment, all there was to focus on was Silvio.
His sparked eyes sparked alight, yet also had a soft tenderness she had noticed in the past only once or twice before. The soft, content smile on his face was so dazzling that she closed her eyes for a moment as he brushed back some of my hair that had blown onto my cheek, his hand falling to grip at her hip as she listened to his voice, soothing for a moment.
“I’ve got ya, Em. Just focus on me, ignore the cameras, ignore the people around us. Right now, it’s just you, and a man who has fallen for ya, somehow.”
She let out a puff of air, a smile forming on her lips as he tenderly stroked her cheek with his thumb. The calm before the storm, in a sense, because the minute we turned our faces from each other, we’d be barraged with flashes of lights from cameras, news reporters shoving microphones in our direction, and I’d have to see Annalise and Eliza’s faces as they pushed back tears for the press. But for right now, they basked in the warmth of the sun glowing on their skin, and the love that had formed between them.
Silvio pulled away first, meeting the presses questioning gazes with a charming smile. “May I introduce to you the future queen of Benitoite? Emma!”
She forced a smile onto her face as Silvio linked her hand with his own, his thumb rubbing comforting circles into her skin as she waved for the press with her free hand. It was intimidating; being so vulnerable and open with so many strangers, and having their love publicly declared. It wasn’t anything she was used to, and yet with Silvio at her side, it made everything a little easier.
Silvio continued, more regal than Emma had really ever seen him before, but it was just another part of him to fall in love with. “I’ve enjoyed countless moments with each of these lovely women.” Liar, Emma thought. After one particularly boring date with Eliza, Emma found Silvio at her bedroom door in the scandalous early morning, and he practically fell into her room moaning about he could never marry such a boring woman. But she was his father’s pick of the litter, and so he had to play nice, for now at least. “But I cannot deny that during my time with Emma, I fell in love with her. Not only is her heart pure and kind, but she’s smart, and witty, and can match me toe to toe. She’s going to be a lovely queen one day.”
To seal the deal, Silvio leaned over, pressing a tender kiss to the side of Emma’s cheek. Emma guiltily looked towards the two girls who had been standing with her not too long ago, and her stomach dropped as she watched Annalise wipe her eyes with a handkerchief she must have gotten from a guard. Her nose was red, her eyes were puffy, and she was still gorgeous. Her blonde hair was perfectly coiled, and her peachy pink lipstick looked like it had just been freshly applied.
Emma knew that Annalise had fallen in love with Silvio, and although she knew where Silvio’s heart lay, she also knew that Annalise, a princess from a small country across the sea, was the perfect candidate. She already knew all the proper etiquette, and she was graceful and poised and…. Perfect. She was who should’ve  ended up with Silvio, if all things were supposed to have gone to plan. There’s no way she’d ever mess up Benitoite, or be awkward in front of news reporters.
Silvio brought her out of her daze, placing his hand on the small of her back and ushering her away from the crowds, slipping off his own shoes and letting the shallow waves wash over his bare feet. She could feel his gaze on her as she looked out into the horizon, the sun shining brightly over the waves, making the water shimmer. “Hey,” Silvio said, squeezing her waist affectionately as he pulled Emma closer. “Talk to me.” She hummed her response, letting her head fall to his shoulder as she relaxed in his arms. “I saw your mind spinning when you saw Anna crying.”
“She loves you,” Emma said, sighing. “I just feel bad.”
“I love you,” Silvio replied, kissing Emma’s head. “I can’t help it that you’re the person I wanna be with.”
“She would’ve been the perfect queen.” Emma argued.
“You’re perfect to me.” Emma had no retort to his remark. It was so sweet and sincere, almost jarring, since Silvio was usually brash and loud. “See, ya can’t argue with me forever.” Silvio let go of his hold on her, kicking some water at her feet and smiling as Emma shrieked. “I’m still the future king after all.”
Emma bent over, cupping water in her hands to throw at Silvio’s chest and before he could grab her and drag her into the water with him, she ran, giggles bubbling past her lips as Silvio pushed to chase after her, the sand causing him to stumble as he caught up to her, and pulled her down to the ground with him.
They were face to face, Silvio’s hardened body pressed against her own as he lay on top of her, his sea blue eyes searching her own, any trace of giggles gone. He smelled like seawater, and Emma found herself finding solace in that smell - it was the scent that could remind her of her beloved no matter where she found herself, whether she was in his arms or they were apart.
The sea always managed to bring her home in Silvio’s arms.
Without saying anything else, Silvio closed the small distance between the two, a sweet kiss shared between two - unofficially - engaged lovers. She could never get enough of his taste; sweet rose wine and toothpaste. Two things that on their own seemed awful together, but when  they’re on the tongue of your loved one, seemed like the best combination in the whole world.
“You’re so pretty,” Silvio commented, pushing a piece of Emma’s hair out of her eyes. She felt her cheeks flush and she knew she probably looked like a disheveled mess.
“Please,” Emma said, reaching out to trace Silvio’s cheekbone with her thumb. “Shut up.”
She guided his lips back to her own as she heard him murmur into their kiss. “Gladly,”
The sea roared on around them, but neither of them cared. The smell of seawater from now on would always bring back memories of this day, and would be something that they would one day share with their children while they explain to them how sacred love should be, much like the sea, and hope that one day, they too, can be reminded of true love by even the faintest scent of seawater.

Damn Mutt (Ikemen Prince)
Tumblr media
Pairing: Silvio Ricci x MC Summary: An unexpected furry edition to their family has Silvio on edge, and he isn't quite sure how to react.
Word Count: 1.1k
Warnings: Swearing
A note from the author: @xbalayage happy Friday, enjoy some Silvio
Tumblr media
“...What the fuck did ya bring home?”
Silvio’s brash voice rang out in the quiet room, urging her to rush over and quiet him by shoving her hands over his mouth and looking at him with a frantic look in her eyes. “Quiet, you’re gonna wake her.”
“I don’t care if I fuckin’ wake it,” Silvio grasped her hands, removing them from his mouth so he could speak freely once again. “It’s goin’ back.”
She gasped, her eyes shining in devotion as she gazed at him. “She’s not going back, I love her.”
“Ya already have one rotten mutt in this palace, we don’t need a second.” Silvio said, his eyes shifting towards the dalmatian puppy laying in the sea blue dog bed near the foot of his king sized bed. “It’s going back.”
“Silvio! I’m not taking her back. Daisy needed a home and we can give her a home.” She looked towards her puppy, a fond smile on her face. “Besides, she already loves me.”
“Jesus fuckin’ Christ, you named it?” He raked a hand over his face, a heavy sigh escaping his lips as he shifted his gaze from his woman to the sleeping dog. “When I told ya to go into town and get somethin’ nice, I wasn’t expecting a mutt. I meant a few new dresses or a necklace.”
She gripped his arm excitedly, squeezing to emphasize her happiness. “But Silvio! She’s so much better than clothes or jewelry.” She paused for a second, biting her lip in thought. “When I saw her in town, the man told me she was the runt of the litter and no one wanted her. And when I looked at her, she was already looking at me with so much love that I just couldn’t say no. Besides, your crest is a dalmatian. She can be your mascot.”
Silvio snorted. “That puny thing? I don’t think so.” He approached the bed and crouched down, watching as Daisy stirred, his heavy boots disturbing her sleep. “Hey, wake up.” She watched as he nudged Daisy, and when she picked up her head, he brought his hand to rest on top, gently soothing the puppy as she whined slightly, desperate for some  attention. “You’re kinda annoying, stop whinin’.”
Although his words weren’t nice, his voice was softer than his lover was used to and she felt a swell of affection rise in her throat as she realized Silvio may not be as mad as she initially thought. “She’s a puppy, she just needs love and attention. She’s a little baby.”
Silvio threw her a glance over his shoulder, a smirk on his face. “So what about me needin’ love and attention, huh? Just gonna abandon me for this little mutt? ‘Cause if that’s the case, we’re bringin’ it back right now.”
“Of course not! You’re still my number one!” She exclaimed, rushing over to kiss him on his cheek as he grumbled, just to prove a point.
Silvio stood up after she pulled away, brushing off his pants as he spoke. “Well, let’s go then.”
“NO!” Her voice came out louder than she expected, and she knelt to the ground by Daisy, wrapping her arms around the adorable puppy. Silvio’s eyes widened in shock, speechless. “We’re not bringing her back, I won't let you.”
“It’s a puppy. It needs to let out some energy after a nap. We’re takin’ it for a walk.” Silvio said, shrugging on his cape to protect against the chilly air. “It’s cold out, make sure you put on somethin’ warmer so I don’t have to hear ya complain. I’m not givin’ ya my cloak again.”
And so, she and Daisy scrambled after him as Silvio left the room, Daisy’s clumsy puppy feet pounding on the shiny floor as she tried to nip at the edges of Silvio’s cloak while he walked. He batted her off, grabbing her leash and directing her to walk by his side, her ears flopping as she kept at a klutzy jog to keep pace with him.
Once outside, he loosened his grip on her leash, letting her sniff around on the impeccably clean sidewalks, offering his free arm to his lover to link with. “We should hire a trainer for it.”
“Why would we need a trainer? I’ll work with her every day!” The woman said, leaning into Silvio’s body warmth. Despite his complaining that he wouldn’t share his cloak, he opened it up, wrapping his arm previously connected to hers around her shoulder so he could envelop her in the warmth his overclothes could provide.
Silvio watched bemusedly as Daisy nose dived into a bush, biting after a leaf being carried by the wind. “Alright, I guess I can help ya.” “You like her,” his lover observed, a soft and knowing smile crossing over all her features and lighting up her face.
“I never said that, don’t go puttin’ words in my mouth.” Silvio said, tugging on Daisy’s leash to divert her attention away from the leaf so the three of them could keep walking. “This damn mutt reminds me of that annoyin’ brother of mine.”
“You like Rio!” She exclaimed, rolling her eyes. “Even if you won’t admit it.”
“Shaddup.” Silvio’s word hung in the air, and she knew she hit the nail on the head, but instead of replying, she smiled to herself. Giddiness was pooling in her belly as she took in the scene at hand: her and the man she loved spending quality time together, their puppy running around in front of them and exploring her new home. They were truly like a little family, and the thought excited her.
Their walk around the palace ground continued, idle chit chat between the two lovers ensued as Daisy ran around, overly excited over everything new that she encountered, drawing eye rolls and grumping from Silvio, but his lover knew that when she wasn’t looking, his careful and watchful eyes never strayed from their new addition.
Back inside the palace, in the comfort of their shared room Silvio slipped off his shoes and cloak, dropping his belt and sword as well, shoving them all into a pile on the ground. He flopped face first onto the bed, letting out an exhale as he sunk into the best quality mattress he could buy. Daisy hopped up next to him, face-planting much like her dad, and snuggled into his side, her nose pressed into him in efforts to warm it. His lover’s heart swelled with happiness at the scene, especially when Silvio picked up his head to gaze at the puppy, and he smoothed his hand tenderly over her back, readjusting himself so he was laid on his side, curled around the puppy’s smaller form.
“Still hate her?” She asked, kicking off her own shoes and going to join her little family on the bed.
Silvio continued to pet the dog as he replied. “Yea, I hate her.” Daisy picked her head up to look at him, before snuggling back into his embrace, and the woman caught the look of adoration in Silvio’s eyes as he muttered, “Damn mutt.”
