Stock buybacks have been a debate for some time now. With outrageous company executive and CEO compensation tied to stock options and pleasing shareholders, the practice of buying back a company’s stock has become commonplace. This is all while American workers have been consistently outsourced in favor of cheaper labor and employer-provided benefits are steadily reduced. Leadership Pasco Rolls Out Bus Tour 2.0
Tumblr media
Bus Tour 2.0 made history on March 12, 2024, as the first Leadership Pasco alumni and community mobile networking and educational event. It was an idea from a board meeting executed through the leadership of board member Kathy Masucci '22 and the alumni committee. Leadership Pasco Rolls Out Bus Tour 2.0, an Alumni and Community Experience The day began with a light breakfast and networking at Wiregrass Ranch Sports Campus, Wesley Chapel. From there the sold-out event group boarded a 55 passenger Olympus Limo motor coach (with new bus smell) with destinations in Central and East Pasco. During the ride attendees learned about the major Pasco business and construction developments happening from the people in the know. Hope Kennedy, North Tampa Bay Chamber President shared so much about current and future Pasco demographics, business, and plans. She also spoke about the growth of infrastructure to match the numbers of new rooftops. The group also heard from Michael Wolf '24, Vice President, Columnar/DoubleBranch and Phillips & Jordan and Art Phelps, Senior Vice President, Industrial and Commercial, Phillips and Jordan, Inc. as we viewed the expansive mixed-use development, DoubleBranch, formerly known as Pasco Town Center. The project will feature 4 million square feet of industrial development, 725,000 square feet of offices, 400,000 square feet of retail, 3,500 housing units and 300 hotel beds on a 965-acre parcel at the southeast corner of Interstate 75 and State Road 52. At completion, DoubleBranch will generate over $600 million in long-term economic impact on an estimated $2 billion buildout for the surrounding area. As companies locate, the development is anticipated to be home to 6,000 jobs including many in the logistics, life sciences, and healthcare target industry sectors. Mike Bishop '17, Senior Vice President, Pasco Economic Development Council (PEDC) spoke about projects the PEDC is involved in around the county and answered many questions along the way about land for sale, recently sold, or in development. The tour learned more about PEDC's mission and structure. PEDC is the lead economic development organization dedicated to the overall growth and prosperity of Pasco County through the development of a sustainable and diversified economy. Pasco EDC is a private, non-profit organization that promotes countywide economic development and continues to be a strong partnership funded by corporate and public investors focused on the economic vitality of Pasco County. Bishop also spoke about SMARTstart Small Business program and other tools for small business success. The bus drove to the new Moffitt Innovation Campus, also known as Speros for a tasty lunch and presentation by Casey Cane, Moffitt, Speros FL, Pasco County Global Innovation Center. Speros is a 775-acre Pasco County campus to be used for the future of revolutionary cancer treatment and research. The campus will feature 16 million square feet of lab, office, manufacturing, and clinical space. Several hundred acres will remain natural and a habitat for Florida wildlife. The tour learned the name Speros, is a derivative of the Latin verb “Sperare,” meaning “to hope” or “to look forward to." Approximately 14,000 Moffitt team members will be employed on campus at projectcompletion. Harold Sample '91, was an attendee of the tour and shared Pasco County history with us, along with sights such as Angeline Academy of Innovation, Land 'O Lakes, and the Metro Lagoon communities of Eperson in Wesley Chapel and Mirada in San Antonio. Sample and Kurt Conover '92 retired from conducting our class Bus Tour with Class of 2024, and new leaders of Michele Baker '97 and Frances Werner-Wakins '11 will be taking on the two-day program in 2025. Both attended Bus Tour 2.0 and have been working with Sample and Conover on next-year's program day. The tour traveled back to the Wiregrass Recreation Center where they learned more about the tourism industry that is putting Pasco on the map. Tourism Day is our newest program day, so most of our alumni have not experienced the full day. Adam Thomas '24 Director of Florida's Sports Coast, our tourism bureau, and co-chair of Tourism Day presented that component along with a tour and details on Wiregrass Recreation Center by Ronnie Outen, Operations Manager and Basketball Director. Attendees concluded with an optional happy hour at Skybox, Wesley Chapel’s only rooftop bar, at Residence Inn. It was a beautiful day, and a great way to travel around the county to learn from the best and have some great conversations with new and old friends. Many of the attendees are members of the community who plan to learn more about Leadership Pasco or who have plans to apply for Class of 2025. About Leadership Pasco Leadership Pasco, established 1988, is a highly respected leadership development program designed to connect, educate, and engage emerging and existing leaders in Pasco County. The program focuses on fostering a deeper understanding of the community, promoting collaboration, and inspiring participants to take an active role in shaping the future of the county.Website: https://leadershippasco.com Read the full article

IEN551 Business Venture Research
Full Sail University
Prof. Natly Torres Alvarado
March 3, 2024
What was your original goal for this course?
My original goal for IEN551 Business Venture Research class is to get more productive on my research for my future startup business with online therapy industry. My goal is to come up a better system using the latest technology for my online therapy business such as an app, online service using text, email, mobile phone and video chat to serve our patients. Also, I needed more insights on how I could hire licensed therapists and psychiatrists.
How was the goal met by the course?
The goal was met by the course, IEN551 Business Venture Research because I learned plenty from our lectures that included much information from professional sources from journals, videos, and books. I have so much information to have a good start on my research at the end of my IEMS program. Also, I gathered all my sources that I have found so far during my IEMS program, which I am grateful for relearning my past business and management knowledge from my several undergraduate degrees. I can finally go back to the administration professions and get salary instead of my lower wages from my data entry and clerical jobs.
After I complete my IEMS program, I will continue to pursue my careers in technology. I missed my opportunity to complete my past Bachelor of E-Business. Unfortunately, I had to restart my computer credits with 60 credits instead of 24 more credits to graduate at the turn of the century. The reason for changing our curriculum was that we had to learn new Internet coding, which we did not cover during the late 1990s while I was enrolled on BS E-Business program at University of Phoenix. I ended up completing my 24 credits to graduate with BS in Management.
The only logical way of getting to my Master’s degree is to take the IEMS program with Full Sail University instead of Master’s in Game Design. I am now back in track with my business knowledge and learning more about being an Innovative Entrepreneur with technology. I can use my creative thinking, which I have been craving since I was in high school. My future goals were to become a computer animator, cinematographer, photographer, mechanical drafting with designs, game design, etc. Someday, I can come up with many applications involving therapy, which I can apply my knowledge from degrees in Psychology and Psychiatrist in the future. Online therapy is my challenge for a startup or any other design professions such as game design, interior design, mechanical drafting design, computer animation design related in the movie industry, and game design.
What have you learned from this course? Mention at least 4 research resources you found useful.
The most useful part of our class that I found very useful was the SmartStart Canvas, which we got more into depth when we used it as a product planning tool to start a business. We learned about the SmartStart Canvas last month, which is based on the Business Model Canvas used mostly in the Lean Startup process. We used the SmartStart Canvas for this class as a one-page summation of our preliminary product and business idea. Our class emphasized that the SmartStart Canvas helps to focus on those things that are most important during early stages of new business planning. I found it very useful to figure out what I must work on with my online therapy startup in the future.
There were some things that stood out to me about being a startup founder from our reading assignments, and the most important lessons they learned. Koch (2020) reported that Steve Jobs the founder of Apple was fired on 1985, sold his 11% Apple shares and was the one who created the Macintosh. Steve Jobs turned setbacks, which he failed many of his startups into success. Jobs’ next startup was NeXT, a computer with new great features which many college students buy, but it failed in the market due to its expensive price (Koch, 2020). Steve Jobs was the biggest investor of Pixar, and he made a Pixar Image Computer sold to many customers for animators and graphic designers (Koch, 2020). Jobs’ biggest customer was Disney, which needed his computer and software to make animated movies (Koch, 2020). The price of Pixar’s products was too expensive, and Steve Jobs lost $50 million (Koch, 2020). Then, in 1991 when the Toy Story movie became a box office hit, Steve Job made $1.2 billion of his Pixar’s shares (Koch, 2020). Steve Job persuaded for Apple to buy his NeXT company (Koch, 2020). On 1997, Apple was going through bankruptcy and the board beg Jobs to become CEO again (Koch, 2020).
According to Tim Berry (2009), bootstrapping, which is using your own money without investors as partners is underrated. It is a great accomplishment to own your own business outright, but it took them longer and became more difficult to make their business grow (Berry, 2009). Their family business is underrated, had some special problems and special advantages, but overall, it seems a good ending (Berry, 2009).
Other 90% startups fail like Nikki Durkin’s 99dresses, which won many battles but lost her business (Durkin, 2014). “Starting over had lack of progress, and the product she promised her investors just wasn’t working” (Durkin, pg. 1, 2014).
Nikki’s failures came from not trusting her co-founder, not knowing the huge risks of starting her retail business, had no idea what startup means, not using failure as a learning experience, lack of leadership skills, and competitors won against her trading cheaper fast fashion (Durkin, 2014). She made the wrong decision because fast fashion is difficult to re-sell for cash, and her competition focused on buying and selling designer fashion (Durkin, 2014). Also, her luck and timing failed and raising more money was what she didn’t have faith anymore, and her lesson was to get into a startup business that she believes and feel comfortable in (Durkin, 2014). She focused more about making money and ignored the rest of her business strategies. Nikki Dunkin’s startup business was pure luck but lack smart business decisions. She stopped her business, and she felt more successful going home and start working on new ideas.
Also, our class provided us videos of BetaList interviews about stories behind the startups for inspiration (“BetaList Interviews,” 2024).
“These videos showed many new startups with many of their brands and services that were created through their incredible creative thinking. Business ideas that hardly come into mind are many innovations for the latest technology industries. There is a software engineer who has a startup of a community where entrepreneurial technologist team up to innovate quality ideas. A project tracking startup shares progress of visualize project and help them track to team, clients, investors, or the world. Another good startup is a marketplace that brings together blog owners looking for unique content and allows writers to write about their interests. A startup has a new web service to keep your friends and family in the loop while traveling. There are startups that focus on giving service for accessibility, and a good example is to provide customers an easy way to create forms and surveys for the mobile phone” (pg.1).
How will you apply the material learned in the course personally or professionally?
The material I learned in the course that I will apply personally or professionally are the gained knowledge I learned from our research about startup businesses. It is giving me a further knowledge of having my own business in technology, which I have been interested since I was in high school. The advantage of today’s technology has incorporated all the computer, design, and business knowledge along with my IEMS program. This course, IEM551 Business Venture Research is a blessing because it will give an idea on where I am going to take my new master’s degree in technology. Coming up with many innovations would be in my future. Thanks to the knowledge I gained from my research and class materials from this class.

From experience to customization, from panel design to customer service, these companies have demonstrated their commitment to providing top-tier solar services. As you consider your options, it's crucial to factor in your energy needs, budget, and the specific features that each company offers. Decoding Solar Power Costs When considering solar energy companies, cost is often a deciding factor. For instance, Palmetto Solar typically charges between $2.55 and $3.23 per watt, lower than the industry standard of $3.50 per watt. On the other hand, SunPower, known for its premium solar panels, may charge higher, but they deliver on efficiency and durability. Tesla Energy, known for their innovative products, offers competitive quotes, often cheaper than competitors. Ultimately, the best solar energy company for you will offer a balance of cost and value, providing quality solar solutions within your budget. Understanding Solar Services and Financing Options The best solar energy companies offer a wide range of services, from solar panel installation to system monitoring and more. For example, SunPower offers in-house solar installations and a variety of financing options, including cash purchase, loan, lease, and power purchase agreements (PPAs). Similarly, ADT Solar provides 24/7 customer service and a mobile app for system monitoring, ensuring customers are always informed about their solar system's performance. Financing options can significantly impact your decision. Companies like Sunrun Solar and Blue Raven Solar offer unique solar financing programs that make going solar more accessible and affordable. Whether it's through a prepaid or monthly solar lease or a solar loan program, these companies provide solutions that can fit a variety of financial circumstances. Solar Energy Companies Warranties and Protection Plans Warranties and protection plans are crucial when investing in a solar energy system. Palmetto Solar, for instance, offers a 25-year workmanship, product, and performance warranty, providing customers with peace of mind for their investment. Similarly, Solar Energy World offers a tiered protection plan for any solar panel system. However, it's important to note that not all companies offer the same warranty terms. For instance, Momentum Solar does not offer a solar panel performance warranty. Therefore, customers must carefully consider the terms of warranties and protection plans when choosing the best solar energy company. Solar Energy Companies State Availability Lastly, the availability of a company's services in your state is a significant factor. While Tesla Energy installs solar panels in every state except Alaska, other companies have a more limited reach. It's essential to check whether the solar energy company you're considering operates in your state. In conclusion, choosing the best solar energy company involves careful consideration of a variety of factors, including cost, services, financing options, warranties, and state availability. Whether you value experience, customer service, design, or sustainability initiatives, there's a solar energy company out there that can meet your needs. As the solar industry continues to grow and innovate, there are more options than ever to find a solar solution that fits your lifestyle. With the rise in global awareness about climate change and the need to reduce carbon emissions, the demand for renewable energy sources has seen a significant increase. Among these, solar power has emerged as one of the most popular and accessible forms of renewable energy. Homeowners and businesses alike are showing interest in solar power systems, thus creating a thriving market for solar panel installation and related services. This comprehensive guide will address various aspects of solar power, its benefits, costs, and what to consider when choosing the best solar company. Solar Panel Basics and Benefits to the Environment Solar panels convert sunlight directly into electricity through the photovoltaic effect. The solar cells in the panels, typically made of silicon, generate electric charges when exposed to sunlight. These charges are then channeled through an inverter, transforming the direct current (DC) into alternating current (AC) that can be used in the home or fed back into the grid. One of the main advantages of solar energy is that it is a clean, renewable source of power. Unlike fossil fuels, it does not emit greenhouse gases during operation, making it environmentally friendly. It also reduces dependence on non-renewable sources of energy, thus contributing to energy security and independence. Solar Panel Installation Costs and Savings The cost of installing solar panels can vary widely depending on a variety of factors such as the size and complexity of the system, geographical location, and the specific solar company chosen for the installation. As of 2023, the average cost of solar panel installation in the U.S ranges from $15,000 to $25,000, after applying federal tax credits. While the upfront costs may seem high, it's important to consider the long-term savings. Solar panels can significantly reduce or even eliminate your electricity bill, and excess energy can be sold back to the grid in areas where net metering is available. Moreover, homeowners can take advantage of federal tax credits, local incentives, and rebates to further offset the installation costs. Solar Panel Maintenance and Longevity Solar panels, designed to endure various weather conditions, need minimal maintenance. To guarantee their optimal performance, we recommend periodic cleaning and inspections for potential damage. Ideally, depending on the climate and location, you should clean the panels once or twice a year. The lifespan of solar panels can vary, but most manufacturers offer a warranty for 25 to 30 years. However, this doesn't mean that the panels stop working after this period; it's just that their efficiency might reduce slightly. With proper care and maintenance, solar panels can continue to generate electricity for many years beyond their warranty period. Choosing the Right Solar Company Choosing the right solar company is crucial for a successful and satisfying solar installation. Some factors to consider include the company's experience, customer reviews, warranties offered, and the types of solar panels they use. Additionally, it may be beneficial to choose a local installer as they are likely to have a better understanding of the local regulations and incentives. Top Solar Companies of 2023 Based on various rankings and reviews, some of the top solar companies of 2023 include SunPower, Tesla, Blue Raven Solar, and Momentum Solar. These companies are recognized for their high-quality products, excellent customer service, and comprehensive warranties. 1. SunPower Known for its high-efficiency panels and comprehensive service, SunPower offers end-to-end solar solutions. Their panels are highly efficient and come with an industry-leading warranty. 2. Enphase's energy management technology is among the most efficient and reliable in the industry. 7. First Solar As one of the world's largest manufacturers of solar panels, First Solar has a strong presence in the commercial and utility-scale solar market. Their thin-film panels are known for their durability and high performance, even in challenging environmental conditions. 8. LG Solar LG Solar is a division of the well-known electronics company LG. They produce high-quality solar panels known for their durability, efficiency, and aesthetics. Remember that the best solar company for you will depend on your specific needs, such as the size and location of your home, your budget, and your energy goals. It's recommended to get quotes from multiple providers and do thorough research before making a decision. FAQs How much does solar panel installation cost? The cost of installing solar panels can differ greatly. It depends on the system size, your location, and the chosen solar company. On average, a U.S. solar panel system may cost between $15,000 and $25,000. This price is before tax credits and incentives. How long do solar panels last? Solar panels are generally designed to last for a long time, with most manufacturers offering 25-year warranties. However, solar panels can often produce electricity efficiently for up to 30-40 years. How do solar panels work? Solar panels work by converting sunlight into electricity. They do this using cells made from semiconductor materials, usually silicon. When sunlight strikes these cells, it knocks electrons loose, creating an electric current. What is net metering? Net metering is a billing arrangement with your utility company that allows you to get credit for excess electricity that your solar panels produce and send back to the grid. This can help to offset the cost of any electricity you draw from the grid when your solar panels aren't producing enough power, such as at night. Are local solar installers a good option? Local solar installers can often be a good option because they have a deep understanding of local weather patterns, permit processes, and incentive programs. They might also offer more personalized customer service than larger, national companies. How do I know if the quote I have is a good one?
