I think it’s interesting that people think that having elected officials means our voices are heard in politics. I’m not saying elections aren’t important (I’ve voted in every election since I turned 18) but I think this year especially we’ve seen that politicians really don’t have our best interests at heart.

#it's just interesting seeing everyone's political opinions in our class discussion assignments #this week it was about bureaucracy and so I asked if people think bureaucracy is the best way to structure the government #and someone replied 'I think we should have more elected positions to make our voices heard' #and a couple weeks ago #someone else was like 'But if Marx wants to get rid of government how will people's voices be heard? what about representation?' #and it made me think of a video Sonya Renee Taylor made a while back about how the hierarchal system our society's organized into is what #surpasses our voices so to really be in an equal society we have to tear down these hierarchies and positions of status / power #so basically Marx was saying that we won't need the gov if we can create more collective smaller communities where people's voices will be #heard because there's no real incentive to suppress them if everyone's working for the collective good (ideally) #it's just interesting that ppl assume the alternative to gov / bureaucracy is anarchy and that they can't imagine anything else #personal
