SOC Character Bootcamp 2018

It’s that time of year again, and yes, we are still having Character Bootcamp! We’ll be hosting it primarily on the Discord server (join us here!) with separate channels where the community can discuss the daily character prompts, daily description prompts, and the SOC games. However, we will be holding the SOC games here on the blog on Saturday evening from 7p-10p EST (that’s 4p-7p PST!) and potentially at other times depending on mod schedules. We’ll also do masterposts of all the prompts and post them on the blog at the end of the month for archival purposes, so if you don’t want to join the server to get access to them, you will still be able to see them and use them for practice. We hope to see you on the server, though, and we hope you enjoy this year’s SOC Character Bootcamp!

Game On!

Tonight from 7 pm EST to 10 pm EST (that’s 4 pm to 7 pm if you’re in PST like Kyo!) we’ll be playing Tit for Tat! The rules are as follows:

Send in an ask with a fact about one of your characters! Try to make it as obscure, random, or out-of-context as possible - it’s more fun that way!

We’ll respond with a related fact about one of our characters, or admit that we can’t come up with anything related to your fact and we’re stumped. Stump the mods, get a gif response!

You may submit as many entries as you would like, but you may only submit one character per entry (no doubling up!) and if you submit more than three entries in a row, we reserve the right to refuse to post any more from you for a while. Space them out a little. We’re only here for a few hours, so it’s only fair that everyone gets a chance to play!

Please keep your entries rated PG-13: no vulgarity, gore, sexual content, etc. Remember, this is a safe space, and we’d like to keep it that way! The mods reserve the right not to post any submitted content we feel might be disturbing to our followers. Entries including such information will be deleted and you will not be informed.

My robot character Penny is an odd mixture of "Victorian Gothic literature villain", "cheesy horror movie villain" and "wide-eyed wonder filled heroine" in terms of both aesthetic and personality. Even after gaining sentience her programming will not allow her to swear, instead her swears are replaced with silly Halloween sound effects.

Cordelia is an adorable, precocious 18th Century urchin who also happens to be a minor demon.  She is absolutely adorable and definitely gets away with with selling just a couple of souls on the side. She tries not to swear unless things are really, truly going wrong.

Rory’s mother makes them wear armor when they go out crime-fighting, despite the fact that Rory has the Required Secondary Power of being invulnerable. Their primary power is the ability to manipulate the kinetic energy of their own body, which often gives them the appearance of a ping-pong ball in combat situations.

Tommy tried to recreate an ancient ritual that would tear a hole in reality and give him untold amounts of magical power, but actually just tore a hole in reality and almost got himself killed. Never try to absorb a magical energy field bigger than your head!

Fearing they wouldn't live to adulthood, Alex and Damien Pennington-Fletcher got married when Alex was fifteen and Damien was seventeen. Over two decades later, they renewed their vows, and never regretted a moment of their romance.

Technically this is two characters and we did specify one per ask, for future reference, but we’re letting this one go because it both makes sense and is adorable.

Dustin married Kyne when he was eighteen years old - as soon as he was legally allowed to do so. They have been married for almost thirty years, and he considers it the best decision of his entire life.
