This is gonna be LONG. But please read my milk froze cuz I left it in the freezer while writing this-
Haven't watched ep 14, but what I'm seeing is, Gaon did this to stop Yohan from electrocuting Juk chang (the bastard) on live television right? Idk about stabbing but that episodes not here yet so no need to talk on that. Before doing something so drastic, Gaon did try to convince Yohan with words right? But Yohan didn't listen so he resorted to this.
Now, I know we all hate juk chang, but see...electrocuting him LIVE is a bad, bad idea. See, this is fiction. A lot of people are okay with seeing acts like this because it's not happening in real life therefore, we aren't aware and/or will need to go through the consequences. But, doing this would impact everything really badly, from children to the elderly, this will be a TERRIBLE influence on them. We saw from the flogging right?. This will set a bad example on Korea's people, more of them will be more violent and turn to harsher punishments for even minor crimes. That is a terrifying thought, especially so when you see how convoluted the society already is.
Now, Gaon....has always been taught to believe in justice. In the good of people and in equality. But we've seen how naïve that way of thinking really is and how Yohan literally pulled terrible things to make Gaon see that. I can’t say for sure if Gaon’s just emotional or is being an oblivious idiot in the way he’s going about his actions in this episode, cuz I haven’t seen it. I however do know this: Gaon DOES care for Yohan. I refuse to believe that the writers didn’t know this when they were showing their relationship progress. So, now that soohyun’s gone, Gaon does only have Yohan and Elijah left.
Just because we see that he has readily committed immoral acts doesn’t mean his personality will do a 180 flip. Of course he’d feel horrified at Yohan’s actions. It’s not him being a hypocrite, it’s him trying to convince Yohan that this is a terrible idea. He is a very empathetic person. His emotional intelligence is nothing to be laughed at. He understands the consequences-All of them. So he can see just how these actions are affecting Yohan. Because just think about it. If you’re feeling so far gone that you are willing to ELECTROCUTE a person on LIVE tv, you are NOT in the right mindset. Gaon knows this, he knows that if he lets Yohan continue it might possibly lead to everything going rapidly downhill. Yohan might become even more reckless and unhinged, then what other horrific acts is he gonna do?
I know what you’re thinking, Yohan isn’t a good guy, and you are absolutely correct. He is very cruel, manipulative and isn’t afraid to sacrifice people to fulfill his goals. However, we’ve seen him shift into someone more soft-hearted, someone who realizes and admits that yes, he has people he loves and cares about and that yes, he is a human not a monster. Does this mean he shed his past self’s behavior? Of course not. He’s still very much a bad guy, except he isn’t the Devil people portray him as.
Gaon knows this, and he can see that his effort is completely burning away. He can see that Yohan is slowly inching back to his old self, except with the situation as it is this would mean a death sentence for him, whereas before he could still leisurely play his game. Give the men a break, they cannot think straight. Actually, everyone could use one. So, right now, it may seem that Ga on was convinced by his mentor, but that may have just been what completely convinced him to go ahead with what he was planning to do.
Of course I could be entirely wrong but we’ll find out in the next episode. So if you wanna complain, complain that tdj is freakin ENDING next week. Anyway, thanks for reading this long ass post that I wrote at two am while eating cereal. Hit me up in the replies if you wanna discuss. Actually, please do I really wanna talk.
