i just realized that aemond is bound to end up being obsessed with daemon in the worst way possible and i need a minute because it all makes sense.

starting off with the fact that aemond is a fucking anagram of daemon (i wish we had seen alicent’s reaction to this lmao). both daemon and aemond are the second sons, cast aside for their older brothers, they will never wear the crown nor become the king. neither of their brothers are a good fit for the role, and yet, they do not wish they were the king instead, they just desire power in their own individual and selfish way. two of the most legendary dragonriders, yet aemond struggled to become one (and ended up claiming vhagar, the biggest dragon alive) and daemon bonded with caraxes, a dragon that no one wanted, a dragon who despite his deformity is fearsome in battle, and has a connection with him that is as if they were one. daemon wished to marry his niece, to wed her in the tradition of their house, to restore the house of the dragon to its proper glory with her. and he did. despite them being keep apart, their wish denied, they did get married in a valyrian ceremony. aemond wishes he was the one betrothed to his sister helaena, as he feels that aegon has no respect for her and thus is not deserving of her hand. he says that he would marry her, for duty, to keep the tradition of their house, to keep their valyrian blood pure. he never gets the chance of marrying her. aemond loathes daemon because he will never be able to become him. he becomes obsessed with daemon because he cannot accept that he will never get the life that daemon, the man he was named after, the man who sided with rhaenyra and her children — with lucerys, got to live.

that’s why the events that are yet to come are as important and impactful as they are.

rhaenyra claims the title of the realm — but she has always been the realm: first as princess, then as heir.

daemon claims the title of the protector of the realm — but he has always been her protector: first as uncle, then as husband.

the episode being (literally) dark as fuck aside (thanks miguel) — we got everything. stalker rhaenyra, watching, waiting. jace, luke, baela and rhaena bonding over their grief. the reveal of aemond wishing that he was the one betrothed to helaena instead of aegon. helaena and her omens. viserys calling alicent ‘aemma’. looks that prove ten years of yearning. their talk at the beach. the honesty and the healing. rhaenyra taking control both physically and metaphorically. rhaenyra being vocal about what she wants and needs and daemon giving it to her. their theme song. the ringed fingers. the lack of rush — they finally have the time, the privacy. them holding each other’s faces, stroking each other’s skin, holding onto each other. aemond claiming vhagar. his entire self changing once he has a dragon. the fight between the kids, how protective they already are of each other. jace and luke defending each other, being as strong as their father was. baela and rhaena fighting, being as brave girls as their mother was. rhaenys and her grief, her love for the twins, her finally confronting corlys. corlys standing up for rhaenyra and laenor’s children, not caring about their blood. alicent being a ticking bomb, criston revealing what kind of ‘honor’ he has. emma, olivia and paddy’s acting. the greens deranged sense of family and loyalty in opposition to the blacks. “now they see you as you are” whispered. aemond’s “i lost an eye but i gained a dragon”. daemon siding with rhaenyra. laenor being honest and regretting how he acted. rhaenyra reassuring him about himself — he is a good man and there is nothing wrong with him. the confirmation that they did try to have silver-haired children. emma d’arcy speaking valyrian. rhaenyra, again, asking and demanding. her proposal. “we have always been meant to burn together”. eve and steve’s acting and rhaenys and corly’s pain when they lose their last child. the reveal. laenor getting to live how he always wanted — freed and loved. the valyrian wedding. the blood ceremony. the symbols in their foreheads representing fire and blood. their matching outfits. cousins turned friends turned stepsiblings who soon will be betrothed. the open-mouthed kiss. the promises, the demands made all those years ago, finally being true, daemon and rhaenyra finally being with someone of their choosing: daemon wedded rhaenyra, he took her as she was, even after a decade, despite the changes, the pain time brought. he married her in the tradition of their house, and they will return the house of the dragon to its proper glory. he took her to dragonstone, just as she challenged him ten years ago, but instead of making her his wife, he became her husband — her prince consort. the sworn sword of the future queen.

the promise to stand together, as a family, against the enemy. the dance about to begin, the dragons ready to dance in all their glory.

(possibly) plot the murder of said niece’s husband who is also his cousin’s son but also his (ex) brother in law. see a sewer rat claim his deceased’s wife old hag of a dragon. deal with said sewer rat losing an eye because his niece-lover’s kid stabbed him. witness her sister in law then try to attack someone with the magical targaryen dagger. marry his niece in a valyrian ceremony that involves blood and soul-binding. ALL IN 24 HOURS.

why are people being all dramatic like: but laena was the one daemon truly loved !! rhaenyra’s choice was harwin so he’s her true love !!

like be serious. daemon is going to fuck rhaenyra right after laena’s funeral. not doubting that the grew to love laena (after all, she’s also of valyrian blood, a wild dragonrider and the mother of his children) but i don’t think he was ever in love with her — quite obvious when confronted with the fact that beach!sex is a reality.

now as for rhaenyra / harwin: yes, she chose him to father her kids and to be her lover for a decade (something that was discovered to her by daemon) she chose someone who would protect her, who wanted her for what she is, who thought that being by her side was enough, but again, i don’t think she was in love with him, at least in the way that she’s been in love with daemon since she was a teen.

they both settled for the next best thing: laena was not rhaenyra, harwin was not daemon — and i do think that they’ll make it clear that they were never enough, not for a lack of trying, but still. they were what they had for a decade and in the end, despite being apart, at least they got to share their lives with people that they desired, loved and most importantly, people that they chose.

i never read f&b but i do have my general knowledge, but still it’s been quite clear since the very first episode that daemon and rhaenyra are the main couple of the show — their love story has always played a center role in the show’s story. daemon wants power, he did want the throne, yet he will crown rhaenyra (or i will have a word with the writers) and he will bend the knee to her, his wife. rhaenyra wants the same thing: power, the throne AND daemon.

daemon and rhaenyra are one and the same (seems that viserys hasn’t stressed this enough for the general audience). she’s, or at least will be, as bad as him. they’ve always been equals — they’ve always had a special bond, one rooted in the narcissistic notion of their own desire, of wanting and longing for the one person who is like them. they have a valyrian wedding. they bond their souls with blood. daemon and rhaenyra are allowed to fall for other people, but if you, as a viewer, are watching the show with your eyes closed so you miss the way their scenes are always romantic-coded… then idk maybe go watch another thing <3

Right, it's entirely possible Leana even knows she's not the one he really wants. Like, there's no way she didn't ask, gee, why aren't we going back to KL, like ever? She was at that wedding guys. Also, in the preview when she's telling him they are the blood of Valyria I think she's trying to get him to return "home.' And it's an argument they have had a lot. No one has pointed out, that he rolls his eyes at her when she says it too.

i mean we saw how the wedding / banquet was all about people observing other people and i’m pretty sure that they even showed laena noticing how daemon and rhaenyra were glancing at each other — and she still went for it!!

and if i’m not mistaken in the books the three of them end up spending lots of time together and nyra is “more than fond” of laena so……. that implies that the three of them had some kind of “thing” going on — if it included laena or not or if it was a sexual thing, we’re left to speculate

but anyway the streets are saying that the reason why daemon and rhaenyra don’t see each other for a decade (which is incredible odd considering that… they’re uncle and niece, relatives of the king and married to siblings) is because they cannot bear to be in the other’s presence while married to someone else <3

so they wrote daemon choking his niece / wife over the prophecy in a rage of fury ? so much for a character that's supposed to be grey and whose only redeemable trait is that he LOVES his family (and then it's not addressed AT ALL — next time he's when rhaenyra he lovingly grabs her hands to tell her about luke's fate)

but they had the fucking audacity to have aemond kill lucerys on accident? you're telling me that the old hag just went and murdered luke on arrax while aemond and his psycho ass was yelling no and even cried when it happened?

WHAT THE FUCK WAS THE THOUGHT PROCESS BEHIND THIS ???????????? why are they so fucking keen on making daemon as bad as possible (him killing rhea, choking rhaenyra when he's never put a hand on her even when she was an active threat to him) but they keep whitewashing the fucking greens? according to the writers alicent is nothing but a victim of manipulative men and the patriarchy, aegon is a victim of child neglect with daddy issues that makes 'mistakes' because he doesn't know what 'RAPE' is (sara hess words, not mine) and aemond is a kinslayer by ACCIDENT ???? the same aemond who wanted nothing but revenge and murdered his own nephew (a CHILD) while mocking him
