Summary:

Barnaby loves being a hero: it's a career path he chose for himself because he saw the chance to help people in the way his parents had always encouraged and taught him to, and to really make a difference. He even likes the media aspects of it, the interviews and the photoshoots and the tours with Blue Rose. Every job has its downsides and its long days, but it's something he truly loves to do.

Being partnered with Kotetsu might change that.

I have a dark idea for kotetsu in the age swap AU, what if after kaede was born, tomoe was murdered by a villain and kotetsu became a hero to hunt down the man who killed the love of his life and protect his new daughter? I think it would bring Barnaby close to kotetsu since like him, he want revenge for his family?

But oh dear this really IS dark!! 😂 It's a very intriguing idea, though. Considering we swapped Kotetsu's and Barnaby's roles, it would be very interesting to go further and kinda put young! Kotetsu in Barnaby's (the canon one) shoes. Then they would indeed have smth in common that would bring them closer... hopefully not in the worst possible way 🤣 But the thing is, I fear this would change Kotetsu's entire character as well as the kind of frienship he would have with Barnaby..! (I'd still want Kotetsu to become a hero because it naturally suits him! Also, he and Bunny bonding over revenge would be hella sad and could easily turn into smth really unhealthy..! 😢)

BUT. I was thinking about it and imagining Barnaby helping Kotetsu with the grieving process, teaching him how to live with it (like Kotetsu did with him in canon) and to focus on Kaede more than revenge... 🥺 That would be very precious. I think old! Barnaby would also learn a lot upon meeting young! Kotetsu, such as the good ol' concept of friendship and caring for other people 😌

A Master List of Every Shameless Taibani AU

So those who RP with me know I’m always coming up with AUs. And since I have so many, I tend to lose track.

But I also love each au like my children, and I want a chance to talk about them all, so HERE I will put a master list of the AUs I can remember coming up with with either @pangurbanthewhite or @moxana. I’ll put some descriptions, but also I encourage asks if something gets your attention here!

Sibling AU - Started it all. A rip-off of the Ourobunny AU, where Barnaby has a twin brother named Adam, separated from him at birth and raised to lead Ouroboros. Has also made a robotic clone of Kotetsu, H-13. Depending on my mood, Adam could also be with Barnaby and be a friendly, shy (if secretly naughty troll) engineer tasked with making suits for Kotetsu and Barnaby. Also discussed the possibility of an Adam-like character as an AI developed by the Brooks to watch over Barnaby.

Quitting AU- Basically ‘what if Kotetsu was able to quit his job early after all?’ Kotetsu returns back home only to notice something /super/ off with Barnaby in his interviews. Returns back to Sternbild to try to figure out the truth.

Experimentation AU - Barnaby doesn’t take off the advanced suit after fighting Kotetsu. Disaster ensues in the H-01 fight when the armour turns against him, and Maverick kidnaps him after he defeats Kotetsu. Knowing he can’t get to Barnaby anymore but unable to let his work go to waste, he attempts to clone Barnaby. Terrible experiments and lab shit ensues.

Angel AU - several variations of this, but the main one is Barnaby as a seraph in heaven, kidnapped by a lower-level demon Kotetsu in order to gain leverage in the angel/demon war. Adam shows up. There’s a whole lot of sadness before Barnaby sacrifices everything and gets the two of them teleported to earth, where they live as humans and try not to look like utter fools. Also have discussed guardian angel variations and a role swap with Kotetsu as an angel and Barnaby as a demon.

Robutts AU - SO MANY ROBOTS, SO LITTLE TIME Nerdy Kotetsu bot. Shy sweet Bunny bot. Adam designs robots after his friends and then wonders why they’re smooching. Also, a terrible version where all of the heroes are robots and don’t know it.

Selkie/Mermaid AU - Barnaby as a selkie whose shawl has been stolen by Maverick. Kotetsu as a fisherman who heard Barnaby singing after a bad boat accident. There’s a lot of trauma as Kotetsu uncovers the mystery behind the weird kid living at the manor and his worsening illness. Barnaby eventually escapes to the sea, but Kaede reunites them because her dad is too sad and gay. For a cheerful twist, mermaid Barnaby is kept at a local zoo and worker Kotetsu enlists the help of actual tiger Toshi to get him back to the sea.

Greek Hero AU - Kotetsu is the guard of a garden that holds Barnaby, a robot created by Hepheastus and inspired by Aphrodite. Eventually monsters attack and Barnaby is expected to face his real memories while travelling with Kotetsu to find a safe haven.

Incubus AU - Kotetsu is an incubus and Barnaby is thirsty. Sexual tension creates a wormhole that gets Kotetsu stuck at Barnaby’s place. They make the best of it.

Sex worker AU - A newly widowed Kotetsu is set up at Nathan’s bar with the beautiful, charming Bunny, who just happens to be an escort. Kotetsu deals with this as an embarrassing dad would. The sex is still awesome.

Happiness and Peace of Mind Committee AU - Like the Vocaloid song. Sternbild is a utopia run by Ouroboros and Adam to keep the citizens happy. Kotetsu and the heroes run an underground resistance and kidnap who they think is Adam, but is in fact Barnaby acting as his scapegoat.

Cult AU - Kotetsu is a police officer investigating a cult that was involved in the murder of his wife. He manages to bring in one of the cult members as a witness, but Barnaby wants to return to the cult to fulfill his role as sacrifice. Kotetsu awkwardly reintroduces him to the real world.

High School AU - An opportunity for poly ships. Tomoe the student council president and Barnaby the treasurer are both smitten with school rebel Kotetsu. Toshi is gay and way into drama club. Sometimes Adam is there and is grumpy. He gets better.

Fae AU - this was barely discussed but shut up i like it. Tomoe as Titania and Kotetsu as Oberon fight over a human boy. Barnaby is confused and overwhelmed. Sharing is probably the answer.

Afterlife AU - Barnaby dies and finds his husband Kotetsu has reunited with Tomoe. He tries to leave them alone but Tomoe always wanted a pet bunny.

Okay, I know it isn't Wednesday anymore, but in my defense I originally posted these yesterday on Twitter.

Anyway! Happy belated WiP Wednesday. I have two wips for y'all today, something from what I'm working on for Valentine's day & something from the next chapter of Two Shorten The Road.

So the fic for Valentine's day is basically a canon sickfic where Kotetsu & Barnaby bicker the entire time, basically

And of course, we have the on going struggles of Swap Bunny as he tries to navigate both his crush and his new partnership. In this wil they're. . . bonding, maybe?

As always, accompanied by a wip of the illustration @kitamars is working on to go with the fic.
