Ooh, my favourite topic. Read: the one I over-think. I'll answer for both the Sunblessed Realm and The Fulcrum.

For Days of Dusk:

I've covered fashion quite extensively in this post, but I don't think I touched on fabrics. Since we're at the cusp of the Industrial Revolution, manufacturing fabrics is still labour-intensive, and they aren't as smooth as what we're used to now.

They're made primarily of natural fibres - wool and linen, but also imported cotton, and for the few that can afford it, silk. Furs are also very common, since winters can get pretty cold in most parts of the Sunblessed Realm.

One detail I'd like to highlight is that ballgowns and other very fancy outfits are often embroidered with metallic threads - silver, copper, and bronze, but NEVER gold. Gold is reserved for the Sun King. And yes, they're heavy as hell.

By The Truth Teller times, since it's an urban fantasy set in the equivalent of mid-20th century, the clothes are close to real world, except the current fashion dictates baggy jumpers and oversized pouch-like pockets on jackets. Shades of brown are popular, no bright or garish colours. Especially the main cast, most of whom are Knacked, don't want to stand out in the crowd, so they'll wear dun coats, flatcaps, simple skirts and blazers, etc.

For The Fulcrum:

In the holy city, outfits very much indicate an avian's caste. Here are some examples: ... wears either tunics or loincloths, depending on the weather - note that avians have somewhat different standards of modesty. The fabrics are primarily made of baste fibres. Leather is very rare and brought in by caravans every couple of years. It's reserved for the Peacemakers' armour. Administrators wear grey robes with vibrant blue, green, or teal trims, and strings of pearls around their necks.

Finally, the Priests, the highest caste, wear robes that are dyed in gradients of reds, purples, and indigo - and the dyes are the rarest elements of their outfits. Aside from that, they also wear jingling headdresses so that avians of lower castes know when they approach - it's a mercy, since if a Soulless looks upon a Priest, they will loose an eye.

Dystopian Omegaverse AU: Clothing

In general: Married couples would have wedding rings depending on which marriage. When it comes to Gammas and Omegas, they wear mated collars with matching colors. 

Alphas

The clothes for Alphas are tailor-made, expensive clothes that are made of luxurious fabrics. These are Burmese lotus flower silk, Vicuña wool, Koigu Kersti cashmere, and Cervelt. Their clothes can have extravagant designs in different colors as long it is not the main color. The colors must be in shades of black or gray. Some Alphas and most Elders would wear traditional, semi-formal, or informal clothes for everyday wear. For example, a female Alpha Elder from the Far East Regions can wear a black decorated kimono, which is technically called a kurotomesode, with silver embroidery, nacre kushi, seasonal tsumami kanzashi, silver obi, black getas, and white obi. Another example would be a male Alpha from the Northern Isles Region can wear a black tartan kilt with a sporran, Argyll jacket, gold cufflinks, and a pair of black Oxfords. Once they are married, they are to wear a black wedding ring.

Delta Plus

The Delta Pluses wear high-end, militarized clothes to show off their military power. The primary color is green, though head towards emerald once they were married. Even their casual clothing is heavily influenced by the military, especially for Tamers as they need to assert authority over the untamed Omegas. Speaking of Tamer, they wear strict, military dresses. Men who wear Rifle green suits are either a “Techmancer” or “Securitore”. Once they are married, they are to wear a dark green wedding ring.

Delta Minus

The Delta Minuses wear smart causal clothes as they are not as active in the military. The primary color is green, though it leans towards moss green once they are married. The smart casual wear allows others to be less tense around them while showing their authority. If they are overseeing Droughters, they would wear sap green, sometimes with a gas mask and riding a horse. When onboard, certain young women would wear more modest dress in a shade of olive green. These women are known as “Missionaries” as they job is to go into other nations and recruit others, primarily Omegas, children, and other vulnerable people, to go to Sol Fertilis. They would do this for three years until they can get promoted to either “Teacher” or “Trainer”. Once they are married, they are to wear a standard green wedding ring.

Beta Plus

The Beta Pluses wear informal clothes as opposed to Delta Minuses. This is due to their high positions that required knowledge and immense training. The primary color is blue, though it leans towards turquoise once they are married. As they are not in high positions of power, they wear this to showcase their high intelligence. On special events, the women would wear formal hats, such as mushroom hats, bicycle clip hats, and fascinator hats. Girls and unmarried women would wear doll hats, cloches, half hats, Eugénie hats, and cocktail hats. Once they are married, they are to wear a dark blue wedding ring.

Beta Neutral 

Beta Neutral wears standard-produced clothes. They can wear pencil skirts, shirtdresses, polo shirts, and sweater vests. The primary color is blue, though it leans towards teal once they are married. They can also wear a standard blue wedding ring.

Beta Minus

Despite the style, the clothes are mass-produced since they are deemed as uniforms for their respective positions. This can range from personal assistants to newscasters. The primary color is blue, though it leans towards indigo once they are married. Their casual clothes are usually dresses or a shirt and a skirt with flat shoes for women and a shirt with pants for men. Once they are married, they are to wear a light blue wedding ring.

Gamma Plus

Like Delta Pluses, they wear high-end clothes, such as a wrap dresses, coatdresses, blazers, and dress shirts. Their uniforms are often elegant and tailor made for give off comfort. The primary color is purple or violet, though it leans towards royal purple or burgundy once they are married. They are allowed to wear cocktail dresses, evening gowns, and black lounge suits for special events. Women can wear peach basket hats and pillbox hats. Once they are married, the women must have a head covering, depending on where they are. They also wear a pearly purple wedding ring.

Gamma Minus

Like Beta Minus, their clothes are cheap, mass-produced, and similar to each other, depending on their occupation. They are basically uniforms with a nametag. The color must be either mauveine, for women, or puce, for men. They would also have some accessories, such as maid aprons, high-visibility vests, hats, and gloves. Their casual clothes are usually dresses or a shirt and a skirt with flat shoes for women and a shirt with pants for men. Female Gamma Minuses must only have minimal jewelry and makeup. For the Pleasure Venues, they would wear costumes depending on which theme. For example, they would wear an oiran costume for the Edo Japan theme or gimp suits for the BDSM dungeon. Once they are married, they are required to have a head covering, depending on where they are. They would also wear bluebonnet wedding rings.

Omega

This is split into two categories, which are Omegas from Alpha-Omega pairs and “tamed” Omegas from Droughters. The primary color is red. The fabrics for the former’s clothes are mulberry silk, baby cashmere, Pashmina, and linen. For the latter, it’s soft cotton. The children would wear informal traditional clothes. For special events, they would wear formal, semi-formal, or folk clothes. Recently, “tamed” Omegas would wear red/wine mass-produced dresses due to them not coming from Alpha-Omega families. They wear haute-couture clothes once they’re married. Depending on where they are, they are required to wear a head covering of some sort. These include, but are not limited to, hijabs, hanging veils, shpitzels, and mantillas. They also wear a ruby red wedding ring. Maternity clothes are ready for them once they become pregnant. It’s expected for them to show off their pregnancies.

Pups

Pups would wear white clothes to symbolize their birth, innocence, and renewal. They wear white until they wear the colors on their ranks.

Droughters

Droughters wears only orange clothes if they are within Sol Fertilis. In the Menageries and Savage Zoos, they wear ragged “savage” clothes. In The Fields, they wear prison jumpsuits. These are clothes barely fit as it provides little protection from the harsh environment.

Akaashi fumbled with his long fingers as he patiently waited by the gate in the windy Autumn morning. He wanted to deem it his usual habit; keeping both hands close to his abdomen and listening to the occasional pop of his bones. But he knew better than to lie to himself. His eyes darted around the street parallel to his apartment building, lined with trees that had switched to warm colors to match the season. They bounced up and down, left and right, desperate to find a distraction.

And when the sound of the door opening behind him reached his ears, his arms would drop to his sides. Much to his confusing relief, the person that walked out didn't match who he awaited to see. First a man, then a woman, then another woman, and then a couple. Good morning, he would nod, and Good morning, they would reply while passing by.

Soon after the greeting, the people exited the premises and he was left to stand alone once more, only finding comfort to his anxiety in the fidgeting of his fingers. He hated to admit it, but nervousness flowed through his veins more than blood did. This perturbation presented itself solely because of a decision that took him two days to make: it was time to confront his upstairs neighbor.

His friends had said their goodbyes early Saturday, meaning Akaashi could finally clean up the lovely mess they had made; return everything to its place before Friday rolled around again and chaos ensued. Routine, honestly speaking. And as he tidied up his space, picking up trash and sweeping dust, his mind raced.

It raced with concern and curiosity, doubts and pity.

An entire year had passed since he moved into his apartment. Months upon months of cracking and crashing and smashing and breaking noises coming from his ceiling. Weeks upon weeks of what he could have sworn were sobs and wails and sniffles. Days upon days of seeing that girl only once in a while. Hours upon hours of debating with himself taking the elevator and checking in just in case.

The deafening shattering of glass piercing his ears became the spark that lit the bonfire. But as he shifted uneasy in the middle of the cold on a school morning, his worry morphed into apprehension. Asking questions after a year? It brought a sense of arriving terribly late at a murder scene — so late that the body had long decomposed. Not that he had ever showed up at a murder scene.

Soon, the desire to meet and converse with this stranger became hesitation and doubt. Perhaps she had no business leaving her place so early in the morning, perhaps she had already graduated school, perhaps she had long left. So little he knew about his neighbor that he doubted they lived in the same building.

The door opened behind him once more. Leaves crunched under the pressure of shoes; crunching that resembled the shattered glass three days prior. And not a second later, silence pushed through and stole the spotlight.

Akaashi's reluctance to turn around showed in the way he stiffly craned his neck. But there she stood, the girl upstairs, hiding the lower half of her face behind a teal scarf, stabbing him with wide eyes and furrowed brows. Immobile, frozen, maybe not even breathing; the only movement came from her hair as it danced in the wind.

She had stopped midway through the brick path connecting the main entrance to the metal gates. Her sharp pupils, round and large, glared shakily at Akaashi. Her head tipped down lower into her scarf, although her eyes barely budged.

Akaashi turned fully towards her. Standing a mere couple of feet away from her, he could at last take in all of her appearance. Her height, her hair, her gaze, her skin, her demeanor, her uniform. A grey blazer, buttoned up all the way; peeking from beneath the wool around her neck was a striped, teal-colored bow-tie tied around the collar of a white shirt; all finished with the plain black skirt. He knew that color combination all too well. It matched his.

A fellow Fukuroudani Academy student. He would've slapped himself if not for the glowering girl before him. How come he had never noticed? Having her right in front of him after a whole year helped him realize how little he knew about his neighbor.

The girl took in a deep breath through her scarf, before averting her wavering eyes to the street behind Akaashi. She stepped forward with unsure, wobbly feet and was soon wordlessly crossing the gates. Akaashi followed her with his sight as she walked by him.

He spoke the words he had rehearsed in his head for over half an hour, "Good morning." The girl froze, her shoulders jolting ever so lightly. A faint gulp sounded in the quiet morning. Her quivering eyes settled on him once more. "I'm Akaashi Keiji, your downstairs neighbor."

She stared silently at the outstretched hand. Cold fingers grasped his warm ones weakly and retracted before he could count a second. "[Surname] [Name]," she replied with meek words and an imperceptible nod. Up close, smooth skin became a touch of make-up in an attempt to cover dark eyebags.

"If you don't mind me asking, [Surname]-san, last Friday night I heard something shattering in your apartment." Blunt and straight to the point as he liked to be. He didn't miss the way [Name]'s gaze traveled to the floor. "Is everything okay? I would've asked sooner but didn't want to bother."

Her swift nod answered right as his lips closed. Her attention remained on the ground. "Everything's fine. Sorry for making you worry. Excuse me." The scarf on her face muffled her apology as she bowed and fled the scene.

Akaashi watched as she disappeared down the street, taking cautious steps which wobbled and teetered. Her clenched fists made his eyes narrow. He puffed out a sigh and allowed it to materialize into white steam. Huh. What had made her so afraid of him?
