Gibbons are not monkeys but apes and are largely arboreal and travel from tree to tree using brachiation, using their powerful arms to grab branches and swing a jump their way around their territory This is a #repost @itsawildlifeofficial via @PhotoAroundApp White-handed Gibbon - Hylobates lar This species of gibbon was photographed in southern Thailand. Gibbon chilling out on a motorcycle. When I lived in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand in 1980, and volunteered at refugee camp, I stayed in a rundown building next to an expat family including the person who helped administer our volunteer program. The property had to primates on it. One of them was this gibbon who I was fond of. Had I known then what I know now I would have tried to talk them into getting this ape to a sanctuary. I know my fondest for the gibbon contributes to my passion for apes in general and gibbons in particular. #Gibbon #FondMemories #Ape #ThaiGibbon #UbonRatchathani #Thailand #1980 (at Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPSOJJpLUiy/?utm_medium=tumblr

A Gibbon Parent and Child This is a #repost from @grp_phuket via @PhotoAroundApp To acquire a pet infant gibbon, the mother is shot. Only one in three infants survive this ordeal. The killing of Mother gibbons also reduces the reproduction of wild gibbons. This pet gibbons tend to become aggressive on reaching their sexual maturity. This has created a glut of unwanted pet gibbons. Other gibbons are confiscated from appealing conditions in bars, restaurants. Fortunately some of these rescued gibbons are given to the GRP and through the rehabilitation process are finally put back into the rainforest where they belong where the population can re-establish itself in the areas where they were once extinct. #theWildAnimalRescueFoundationofThailand #theGibbonRehabilitationProject #SaveThailandWildlife #PhotoCrRochDeechusorn #Gibbon #Gibbons #GibbonParent #GibbonMom #GibbonDad #GibbonChild #ThaiGibbons #GibbonsOfThailand #GibbonsOfInstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/B8bxrMygAv6/?igshid=98owuwg8j69o
