Okay, so. I love theorizing things. I’ve forgotten how much. (It’s rare I watch a show live because this is what happens to my brain when I’m invested.
Two things this will go off on.
The daughter is Milah’s, because let’s face it that’s where my mind went first. (Have you seen my blog? Have you met me?)
The divergence didn’t happen in the WW at Regina’s curse but subtly centuries before.
In season two, Belle found that knot. I don’t know the full story, I wasn’t in the fandom at the time, all I know is people still can’t decide what it was for. (Well, they have, they’re just two very understandable views :D ‘It’s just a knot’ or ‘not it’s a rattle.’)
For a refresher (of if you were like me a few weeks ago, absolutely clueless):
(I am proud I named that image ‘rattleorknot.jpg’ and punned by accident.)
Whether or not that’s what it is doesn’t matter in the whole of the story, but!
Imagine if you will. Milah becomes pregnant perhaps a year or two before her death. Given the medical conditions of the era, the kid probably had a 50/50 chance. What if the regular world took the chance she didn’t survive, and the wish realm took the chance she did.
In the case of the first, things happened as they had. That knot is either for that or not, it’s just a little bit of angst flavoring for Killian’s Angst Ramen. (Not to be confused with Revenge Ramen.)
In the second, there was a bit more in the beginning, obviously. When was the child taken, you might ask. My guess would be almost right away.
Remember this guy?
(This one I just named ‘fendrake.jpg’ because I keep forgetting his name and calling him ‘Flavio.’ I don’t know why.)
I am extremely wary of contracts, especially when made when one of the parties involved isn’t there to sign. I’m willing to bet their kid was taken pretty much right away.
This is why WW!Millian didn’t go back for Baelfire sooner. He was safe (they assumed) where he was. Their daughter was not. They search, and search, and search, and then Milah is killed.
In the pain of losing his love and his hand all in one day, the decision to go to Neverland was made with...a very much not clear mind. (Perhaps hinted with a touch of insanity.) The Baelfire Incident probably would have ended a bit differently just to nudge the boy more into returning to the EF rather than to the WWOM, but it still ended. (Perhaps they sailed for a wee bit longer together than that before Pan captured him.)
And during Hook’s times in the EF, he isn’t just running errands for Pan and finding ways for revenge. He’s also searching for his daughter. Fendrake, he would have discovered, would have been dead. But perhaps that would have led him to the ‘vengeful witch.’ How would she have gotten their daughter? Maybe Milah and Killian had crossed paths before. Maybe the child was used by Fendrake as a bargaining tool to try and save his own skin, and that's why he went by the 'spirit' of the contract. The 'healer' felt to me like someone who dabbled maybe where he probably shouldn't have and had made a few enemies. (Or it’s likely the witch just skipped the middle man. Either way, enjoy some neat facial tattoos on a skeevy guy!)
If we go with the Rapunzel theory and what I know of Tangled, hah, them living for centuries together would make hella sense. (True Love's magic doesn't always manifest in the same way, I'd wager~) If not, there’s got to be more realms than Neverland and the Mysterious Island where time isn’t an issue. Plus curses, spells, etc.
At first I was going to say he hadn’t killed Charming’s father, but that would have put Charming on a different path. However, he had been playing chess with his daughter, so the guards killed him instead.
However, when teamed up with Regina and with her test? He wouldn’t have been able to kill his father. Not for Brennan’s sake, really, or even his own, but for the boy’s. (And they they either lived happily ever after and the youngest Liam is now a happy turnip farmer, or Brennan did as he usually did and Liam is sailing with Nemo for different reasons. I feel really bad for hoping for the second, but I love Liam with his Papa!Nemo.)
This would have happened after the witch discovered him and poisoned his heart. Because before then, I believe he still would have killed Brennan. (Probably would have taken Liam and run, too, who knows.)
Because of this failed test, Regina wouldn’t have teamed up with him. Or, if she did, it would have been for more menial tasks. (After all, Captain Hook would still be useful until he wasn’t.) He wouldn’t have gone to get Cora. This sets up a whole chain of reactions on why the curse wouldn’t have happened.
And yeah. That’s about it. It probably has more holes than swiss cheese, but I’m also tagging it ‘wishful thinking’ for a reason.
