Thoughts/opinions on the gerudo in general? I'm curious. apologies if this is too open-ended
I fucking love them personally, they're one of my favorite races, but I'm not a Zelda specialist so I only really know what I've seen in BOTW and its related games, and even then only via playthroughs. I'm sure there's an argument to be had about Orientalist sterotypes with them, what with the whole bare-bodied beautiful desert woman clad in silks and all, but I also think that they're mythical enough in nature that it isn't as much of a problem. There's also the fact that they very much do not confine to the 'passive concubine/harem girl' sterotype enough that I think it balances it out. If anything, they remind me more of the Greek legends of the Amazons, which is an odd fit to a general desert aesthetic, but again- they're fictionalized enough that it all wraps around to just being neat as hell again.
I think an all-female society is cool to think of too. Personally I headcanon that they work like those partially asexual female lizards who need to mate with a male of their species in order to fully trigger ovulation. They can reproduce sexually, and often do so with Hylians to strengthen bloodlines, but asexual reproduction is always gonna happen with at least one kid. I'd have to think about how a pureblood phsyically male Gerudo could come about more when I'm a bit more awake, but my guess is that it's more of a genetic anomaly than anything else- maybe XO rather than XX, which results in male characteristics developing because two x chromosomes are required to trigger the female development pathway. Or its just magic fucking with genetics, bc apparently Zonai and Hylians can interbreed, so magic is 100% at play here
Gerudo cool. I love them :)
