1. If you had to join a sect, which would you join?

Ahahaha oh, oh no, the difficult question!!! *covers face*

Tbh I would. join the Lan sect and then be like, the most problematic Lan ever to Lan XD (”But James, don’t you have a reflexive fight me!!! response to rules and authority....?” yes maybe so shush now that’s why I said problematic.)

Like the thing is. I DO like being a nerd, and I DO like the idea of cultivating with music certainly moreso than with swords look I do not enjoy physical exertion a lot of the time, and I semi-regularly become full of emotion and start wailing to whoever’s nearby about wanting to live in somewhere as beautiful as the Cloud Recesses??? It is SO lovely there. Also the only other option I was considering, the Jiang, tbh gives me the impression that I would die miserably of humidity in Yunmeng sooooo :/

But also for real I am... a lot more chill with following rules when I agree with them about their purpose being to better you ethically and also to form a cohesive community, and I’ve chosen to adhere to them by my own will? Uhh, demonstrably lmao. But yeah I’d definitely still be Arguing about things and eating hot peppers in Caiyi town and playing the “it’s not really drinking if you neutralise the alcohol” game ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Uhhhhh hhhhhhh hahaha ngl I usually feel guilty talking about notps in public??? Probably bc often as not it’s more about “90% of the content I see in the fandom is relatively fluffy and/or mundane and/or lacking in meaty conflict and therefore bores me to tears” oops.

But I will say tbh that I have a pretty visceral unhappy NOPE reaction to LXC/NHS in. Probably 95% of contexts ever. Unless I feel particularly into reading, like, sex-as-self-harm fic on any given day, lmao.

Characters

1. If you could date any character from MDZS, who would you pick?

Lol, none of them.

2. If you had to kill a character, who would you kill?

Save a sex worker or POW, toss JGS off a cliff :) (predictable answer but hey) (I mean, this is distinct from an answer to “who would I kill at a point in the story prior to their actual death,” but. I would be remiss at existing if I didn’t take the opportunity to say I would kill JGS given the slightest excuse.)

Story

1. If you could make one major story change, what change would you make? Why?

Ahhhh, hell. Actually, you know what? I would slightly revamp Qin Su’s character to have her be aware of her parentage since roughly the same time as JGY is, and have them both separately keeping that a secret from one another for roughly the same reasons. She’s disturbed by the letter from Bicao simply because of the implications around someone wanting to make this knowledge public. (On the other hand: she DOES still ask JGY about how Rusong died, and IS still angry and horrified by the attitude he takes to that question and the implication that he was the one who orchestrated that death, because wtf just because his parents were siblings doesn’t mean he should have been anything other than a happy, perfectly loved, alive child??? Get a fucking grip!)

...And then I think. if she does still end up dying* then it’s probably gonna be directly NHS’s fault, in this context? Because “oh okay I was not expecting her to be chill with that, that’s an unpleasant surprise; well I still gotta ruin JGY’s marriage somehow SHRUG”. But on the other hand I really really don’t love all the women dying, so maybe instead he just reveals her complicity publicly and destroys her reputation and turns her into a pariah? :/ Which is still unpleasant but at least isn’t. death.

Anyway the reason why is like. Partially just aesthetic preferences!! I like “morally questionable power couple” much better than I like “evil dude and morally pure innocent victim wife”. (I in fact very much dislike the latter. Looking @ u, late Numenor.) And also partially - I very much like the additional resonance of “JGY underestimates he sweet and kind people around him and doesn’t notice that they can also have sneaky ruthless streaks” that this would add re: Huaisang? While also for that matter foreshadowing the Huaisang reveal?

And, yeah, a lot of other changes I would “like” to make, honestly fall more into the genre of “things I would like as fix-it fics” rather than changes I want to make to the base story, because so many of the pieces I’ve gone “augh but what if that were different!” are just. structurally important to MDZS’s tragic and other thematic elements. Messing with this aspect to Qin Su’s story doesn’t have to make the base plot non-tragic, but does improve on a few issues I have with e.g. morally polarised female characters who all die anyway.

2. Which character would you bring back to life?

!!???!!? when are we talking, here! in what fashion?

....okay, so for the sake of not making my head explode with potential options, I’m going to limit this to cases of characters who are 100% confirmed dead, being brought back either as a fierce corpse or via sacrifice-summon, generally within the main timeline of the story (i.e. not several decades post-canon).

And of that set under those conditions, I’m gonna pick Jiang Yanli. Look. I LOVE the possibilities of fierce corpse!Jiang Yanli. As a scenario it’s both incredibly fucked up but also the possibilities for really emotional reconciliation between all three Yunmeng siblings in the present timeline??? Logistically I think this would have to take place in a bookverse-style “LWJ carries WWX off to the burial mounds post-Nightless City battle” situation... so like, in a fit of practically qi-deviating rage-grief, WWX reanimates JYL’s corpse right as she dies, a la Wen Ning? and then part of what he’s doing, half out of his mind, during the missing time in the Burial Mounds is working on bringing her spiritual consciousness to put back in there.

........there’s definitely more logistics to be worked out, most notably “where is she during the intervening decade?�� but. I love the idea of Jiang Cheng’s anger being not only “you killed my sister” but also “YOU TURNED MY SISTER INTO A FUCKING ZOMBIE”. I love the idea of, eventually, her being ACTUALLY PRESENT to express some of her own opinions and feelings on how WWX & JC fighting over her death (& fierce corpse status) is rly fucked up. make them deal with her as an actual person who’s inconvenient in her wants and needs and willingness to always extend a hand to others, not just a place to hang all their messy emotions on! give her eventually a chance to bond with Jin Ling, and the awkwardness and grief about how much of his life she missed, interspersed with “!!!!! I get to have this back! feelings!”

Because also just in general, I’d really love to have her around to interact with all the characters in their fucked-up “one timeskip later” iterations, and her perma-dying really just robs us of that chance and it’s very rude!

Bonus: holy fuck what would it be like for all her talents and skills and weaknesses to suddenly be completely reversed? Extremely physically strong and capable now! But more likely to scare people than charm them. Can she still, like, taste food properly? Who knows. But wouldn’t THAT be a juicy situation to explore for her! :O

Carlton Lassiter and/or the Whole Psych gang for the headcanon meme? XD especially the Heartcanon

So this ends up being quite broad with these categories so narrowing it down will mean hitting on only a few points versus the entirety of the characters. If that makes sense.

Headcanon: I can muster a cogent argument for why it would make more sense or make for a better story if this were the case:

Always this comes down to more accuracy with character injury. Both Shawn and Carlton were shafted with regards to carryover with their gunshot wounds what with being miraculously healed by the next episode. Shawn wasn’t even shown to have a scar which, of course, is completely impossible given the proximity as well as the caliber of the gun. With regards to the injuries themselves, Shawn will have ongoing pain, to some degree, as well as some weakness in that shoulder and will have a rubber ball that he squeezes on regularly to try to build back the strength in that hand. Carlton, too, will have physical side effects from his wounds and would have taken a long time to recover before returning to work - which he’d have insisted upon doing in spite of the need for recuperation. They both will have been required to see a therapist before returning to work; no exception full stop. Shawn, especially, will suffer from nightmares and some flashbacks from his ordeal and this will carry with him for years to come. He will not want to talk about it but at some point Gus will observe a flashback in action with full panic attack and emotional fallout and will insist Shawn tell him what the hell is going on.

Heartcanon: I don’t have a particular rationale for why this ought to be the case, I just like to imagine it’s true because it gives me the warm fuzzies:

Everyone: By the birth of his second child Lassiter has finally let go of the (basically fake) animosity he’s shown towards Shawn. After all, with the kid married to Juliet he’s essentially family (though that does still make his lip curl in mild disgust). They make regular visits back and forth - the Lassiters to San Fran or the Spencers (and the Gusters) to Santa Barbara. Holidays, in particular, are a huge shared affair and typically take place at the Lassiter home both for the space as well as the memories attached.

Shawn and Henry: Henry is, frankly, sick of doing nothing. He’s tried out various distractions but nothing compares to the excitement that came from working with Shawn on cases - even in a limited capacity. While his near death experience makes working as a police consultant highly distasteful, he still wants to be involved in some way. Eventually he reopens the old Psych location. Not, though, as a PI. But as a trainer for aspiring private detectives. He guides young people and gives them the skills to solve cases and stay safe. He also begins helping Shawn semi-regularly either remotely via Facetime or by occasional trips to San Fransisco. He and Juliet are extremely close and he’s basically the dad she never had - allowing her to confide in him and find a willing ear and wise father figure to walk her through her troubles.

Gutcanon: it’s not that I actively want this to be the case – it just unaccountably feels like it should be:

Shawn and Juliet are not ready to be parents whereas Gus and Selene almost immediately ended up having twins and Gus is in a constant state of panic and meltdown and eventually Shawn and Juliet become sorta co-parents and help out with the two wild toddlers. Henry gleefully considers himself grampa to the twins but only babysits once before declaring “NEVER AGAIN” as its a hellish experience. And yet he eventually does take on that duty again though not without dragging in outside help either by hiring a professional or making some of his PIs-in-training use it as part of the educational experience.

Junkcanon: I like to imagine it’s true because it gives me the other kind of warm fuzzies:

Yeah, that’s gonna be whump again cause HELLO. San Fransisco is a significantly different world than Santa Barbara. Shawn is somewhat naive in this regard and it costs him. The experience of being shot and kidnapped is a mild jaunt compared to what he faces when he ends up in the sights of ruthless heroin dealers who are tired of the mouthy dude and his sidekick cutting into their profits by getting their client base clean and into recovery.

Spleencanon: I insist that this is the case specifically to spite the author, because, like, fuck you, sir or madam:

Honestly? Screw the entire San Fransisco storyline. THAT NEVER HAPPENED. Vick retired - Carlton became Chief - and Juliet became his Head Detective. END OF STORY! You know, after the endgame debacle I’m far more open to kicking “canon” to the curb and creating the story that actually makes some damn sense! I hate the San Fransisco BS and frankly axe it from my personal canon for the series. Psych is at its best when everyone is together like a big team - not scattered apart and only able to see one another occasionally. I haaaaate thaaaat!! There, I said it.

Review - Izumi Akiyama - Part 1

Hello again peeps! :D Sorry for keeping you waiting for too long but god, turned out that I had so much to talk about and I rarely stop when I start talking xD Oh well. I will upload the review in about... 4-5 parts I think, and since I didn’t complete it yet, I’ll upload Powers and techniques, relationships and miscallenous stuff later.

This is just an example of how I will mostly do the reviews unless otherwise specified, and without the creation process part of course :) Anyone and everyone is welcome to give me reviews and ideas for my OCs and how I can do better reviews by the way, because I wish this blog to mainly be a brainstorming place rather than pointing fingers at people, and I claim no expertise in the matter of determining what makes a good OC, these are just my opinions ^^ Besides maybe I couldn’t be too impartial when it comes to my own OC so...

The Creation Process

Alrightie, before I focus on Izu, I would like to tell all of you one thing; do not, under any circumstances, be afraid of random ideas. Every OC has a chance to come to life when you think about it. Almost all of my OCs are from random ideas, and I must admit that my very first Naruto OC was (I still keep him by the way) a third generation OC, same age as Boruto and his friends’ children should be :D So go ahead, be creative as much as you like ^^ You wouldn’t know if you might come up with a plot you would really like, after all.

Anyways, on with Izumi :D

I remember me and my partner-in-crime @Eleanor-Devil talking about a Boruto AU (alternative universes can be life savers xD) when I first thought about her, which was back in… the beginning of 2016 I think. We needed a mentor kind of role over Mitsuki (Orochimaru’s canon son, fyi) and I was suddenly like hmm, y’know I might give Mitsuki a step mother in this case scenario - jokingly at first, because this was something Eleanor kept suggesting me that, since I loved Mitsuki and was intrigued by and fond of Orochimaru as a character (don’t ask why, it’s kinda complicated), I could create Mitsuki a foster mother in Konoha or something like that in the canon story. I had never entertained the idea much back then, because canon-wise, such a character just wouldn’t fit in my head. But since this was an AU, I finally decided why not, I can tweak around Orochimaru’s character a little, and make Izumi a distant assistant for him and a mediator between him and Mitsuki, who had a fall-out due to certain circumstances. I knew that she was going to be a Kirigakure OC (because after said circumstances, Mitsuki had to leave Konoha and later took refugee in Kiri) and that she had lost her family. Her and Orochimaru’s relationship will develop slowly and they later have a daughter, Kiyoshi, although Izumi died in birth.

Sorry for not being able to give loads of info about my OCs by the way, since I’m also writing their story, I have to keep some parts in shadows xD

It’s some months after that, can’t exactly remember how much, that again Eleanor asked me how I would imagine Izumi being part of our semi-canon AU project, Boruto: Happuden that I started thinking about it thoroughly. There was – and still sometimes is – the main problem I had: my pairing for her. Background making wasn’t too hard since I decided from the beginning that she’s gonna be an orphan, I decided to give her a brother who she would think to be dead for years, but pairing her with a generally-known-to-be-evil character WAS a challenge.

I will talk about them more in the relationship chapter, let me just go over other basics first.

Name: Gotta admit, Izumi is the name of one of my friends’ ginger haired character from her original story I REALLY loved, so when the opportunity of creating a female OC for Naruto came up, well… I really couldn’t think any other name xD This was before Itachi’s story came out. I found her surname while regularly looking for Japanese surnames, and I loved how Akiyama sounded, as it means “Autumn Mountain”. So I like to translate her name as “Fountain on the autumn mountain” ^^

Appearance: Alright another quick note here: don’t be afraid to make your OC related to a canon clan. One thing you might wanna look out for, however, is to ‘balance’ just how strong the clan’s genes run in your OC. We will talk about this more in the powers section. Still, if you want to create a pure-blooded / direct descendant OC for any clan, it is highly advisable to follow their guidelines. For example, I wouldn’t create an Uchiha OC with bright blue eyes, since they seem to all have black or at least dark colored eyes.

That being said, Izumi is a descendant of the Uzumaki clan xD

Well it wasn’t my first idea when I gave her wine red hair because I love redheads, but I wasn’t completely against the idea when I was presented with it, because the Uzumaki are spread across the ninja world and Uzushio was a land between the Fire and Water. Her Caucasian kind of skin tone and blue eyes are just random and things that I thought would go with red hair.

As for her clothing style, what I can classify as a generic type is that she likes wearing turtlenecks and all of her clothings are long-sleeved, even beach wear. That’s because she carries burn marks on her forearms and aside from being very self-conscious about them, those also bring back bad memories for her, so she covers them as best as she could.

27. Do you think you’ve improved as a writer since you first started? It’s hard to tell. It hasn’t even been a year since I started writing.

28. What is your favorite story that you’ve written? You are free now. Slavery is an interesting concept that is not common in the knb fandom, or at least for the Akakuro one, and it gives me the platform to write all my experiences and trauma(and exaggerating them for story’s sake) that wouldn’t make it seem out of place or too far-fetched.

29. What is your least favorite story that you’ve written? I don’t know. I like all of them.

30. Where do you see yourself (as a writer) in 5 years? I have no idea as well. Writing wasn’t something I considered as a job or a hobby, but I suppose... maybe a story writer for games? Lol

31. What is the easiest thing about writing? It can capture an idea in full details very quickly, unlike art which would take awhile.

32. What is the hardest thing about writing? It’s not easy to convey the feelings and emotions of the character into the readers.

33. Why do you write? It was to relief my mind off from constantly thinking about the idea. The idea was so vivid and immense that I can’t and don’t have the time to draw them all out, so I wrote them instead.
