For reference: Night Raven College Dorm Roommate Situations
"In each dorm 1st-year students are four to a room with 2nd-year students two to a room and, as a 3rd-year student, you finally get a room to yourself.
Housewardens are the one exception, with their own room regardless of year."

Short translation from Twisted Wonderland: the second novel.
Post-Overblot Leona (the flashback monologue)
"I grew tired of thinking, so I decided to enroll at Night Raven College, though I had no interest in it. I knew  I was just running away from the pain, but my heart felt lighter, nonetheless.
If something is far away enough, you cannot long for it.
The intensity of the sun, the scent of new leaves, the damp wind of the rainy season—it is so far away that it’s nothing but a blur, from here.
The restlessness dulls, and the pain slowly numbs. But, at some point, even that started to change.
A new pack was formed, and with it, new despair.
‘Help us,’ they said.
‘You’re the only one who can do it. Please. Just as expected of our Housewarden. Our king.'
As king, I cannot let the pack starve. I knew that, but I also knew that Malleus cannot be defeated head on. I had to come up with a plan to take him down and win, by any means necessary. Anything to win. To win. I want to win. No matter what, I want to win.
And if I don’t, if I give it everything I have and I still lose, what should I do?
‘Ah…just forget it.’
When I realized that the plan to remove Malleus had failed, suddenly, I understood.
That everything is pointless. That the future throne I desire does not exist.
It didn’t bother me as much as I’d thought it would.
It's a fool’s errand to strive for something that cannot be obtained.
I want to forget it all as soon as possible, and be at ease.
But the pack spoke eagerly about the future, with sparkling eyes.
That alone is terrifying.
It's not their expectations that scare me.
I’m scared of myself. Of how pathetic I would be if their words inspired me, so that I am never able to give up hope.
‘Weren’t we going to turn the world upside down together!?’ ‘You could take on Diasomnia, if you actually tried. I still remember that play you did three years ago!’
Somewhere in my heart, there's still the lingering hope that, maybe, I can still do it. It's an unbelievably optimistic, sweet thought, filled with wishful thinking.
Ruggie, Jack, and the others all talk about these foolish dreams that will never come true, but in the end, I'm just as much a fool as they are.
I'm not strong, I’m not wise, and I'm not loved. Is this who I am? I can't accept that.
That's the one thing I do not want to admit.
I'm utterly fed up with how unreasonable I am. Don't make me think that there might be a chance.  Just let me believe that there is no point in having expectations.
I am tired of struggling and suffering for things I cannot attain.
I hate knowing how insignificant and boring I am.
People say I should try. What else can I do? I've already given it everything I have.
Maybe what I should be striving for is the strength to give up.
And that sounds like the most painful thing of all.
Ah, life truly is unfair."

Translation from Twisted Wonderland the 2nd novel: Leona collared
"Leona fights to remove the collar by force, his hair whipping about his face in his violent struggle.
Caught off guard by a member of his own pack, then succumbing to the magic of a younger student he underestimated—it must be humiliating.
Tumblr media
Seeing Leona in such distress, Jack murmurs, ‘Leona-senpai…I beg you, please stop.’
Yuuya has never heard a voice so full of pain. Despite how he has the upper hand, Jack is practically pleading.
Perhaps unable to watch Leona suffer any further disgrace, he bares his fangs in a snarl.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
‘You’re the reason I wanted to come to this school. Where is the man that I admired so much!?’
‘Shut up…you were already a dog that wags for Heartslabyul, and now you think you can preach all high and mighty just because you used magic to become a real one?’
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leona glares at Jack through the strands of hair that have fallen in his eyes. He no longer makes any effort to smother the resentment in his voice.
‘You’ve devoured me—satisfied now? Hurry up and declare yourself the victor. I’m sure it’s going to feel real good.’
'No—I just wanted to play Spelldrive with you, for real—'
‘Shut it. There’s no believing the words of a traitor.’
It is clear from the look in Jack’s eyes that Leona’s response has wounded him. Even though he is in his wolf form, Yuuya can tell that much. To turn against someone he had so adored, then to have his resolve for that decision so flatly dismissed—Jack must be miserable.
Though he fights to keep any weakness from showing on his face, his long tail droops lifelessly to the ground.
Kicking away a pile of sand, Riddle stands directly before Leona.
'That is going too far. You are adored—how can you possibly be so dissatisfied?’
‘Hey, Jack, your master’s here.’ Leona gives a crooked grin. ‘Thinking of turning me into your dog, too? Is that the reason for this grand collar? Don’t mock me.’
Riddle confronts the glowering Leona with determination. ‘I am not mocking you. Leona-senpai. I respected you.’"

Short translation from Twisted Wonderland: the second novel.
Riddle and the consequences of overblot.
"When Riddle enters the Mirror Chamber, the other dorm leaders cast open and obvious glances his way.
It has been like this ever since that day.
‘Well, well, if it isn't the tantrum-prone little princling of Heartslabyul,’ Leona, in his seat at the table, crosses his legs. ‘All better now? Maybe you should’ve stayed back with your lackeys to rest.’
‘You need not worry,’ Riddle brushes off Leona's mockery. ‘I can manage my own health just fine.’
He says this, but in reality, quite a bit of time had passed before he had been able to so much as stand on his own feet after overblotting.
He had felt so heavy; been in so much pain. It had been as if his entire body had burned itself out, along with his magical power.
And he feels stares everywhere he goes. Looks of awe, curiosity, and scorn.
A mage who lost himself to anger, to the point of overblotting.
A tyrant, abandoned by his dormmates.
A former honor student who has brought an unprecedented scandal upon their prestigious magic school.
The whispers are always filled with words that wound Riddle's lofty self-esteem, all of them true. And they torment him every day.
But Riddle knows it is an appropriate punishment. Such is the extent of the uproar that he caused.
First and foremost, he should be grateful that he has not been expelled.
But this is not the time to think about how hard his mother protested against the school in order to grant him that good fortune.
‘Now, let us begin the meeting on the Inter-Dorm Spelldrive Tournament, to be held at the end of the month,’ the Headmage declares, and the assembled housewardens nod in agreement."

Short translation from the second Twisted Wonderland novel: Yuuya and the rumors
“'What's the matter? You look a bit down,’ says the ghost.
‘No…mm. It's nothing, but...' Yuuya’s reluctant response trails off in a sigh. ‘I just remembered that tomorrow is the start of another week.’
‘Ah, I get it.’ Ace nods in understanding. ‘You're all gloomy cause you don’t want to go to school.’
‘…yeah.’
‘I get that,’ Grim says with a knowing nod. ‘I hate all those boring classes.’
‘Nah, it’s cause he doesn’t want a bunch of guys he doesn’t even know giving him trouble again.’
Yuuya gives a weak nod.
Yuuya and Grim have been students at Night Raven College for a month. He’d assumed that everything would settle down in time, but after a certain incident things are more shaken up than ever.
It is as though there is no one at the school who has not heard the rumors surrounding Yuuya. Everyone is talking about the incident.
Riddle Rosehearts, the housewarden who reigned over Heartslabyul Dorm, and his excessively strict rules. His authoritarian regime may have continued until his graduation but then, disoriented, he had unleashed a torrent of magical power that resulted in his overblot.
Blot is a byproduct of using magic. While a phenomenon that can pose a deadly threat to mages who allow it to accumulate, it is very rare for it to ever reach that point. For an overblot to occur within such a prestigious, traditional school for mages was unprecedented.
It was a major incident that involved both the students of Heartslabyul, and those of another dorm entirely.
A dorm that was most recently dubbed ‘Ramshackle.’ Its two members are Kuroki Yuuya, a human from another world incapable of using magic, and Grim, a magical beast.
They are special first-years, having received permission from the headmage to enroll due to unusual circumstances.
‘Well, it’s not like the rumors are wrong, but they leave out a lot of important parts.’
Listening to Ace explain, Yuuya starts to feel dizzy.
‘I wasn’t really that caught up in everything with Riddle-senpai, I just happened to be there with you two…I don’t really think ‘special first year’ is the right way to put it.’
‘I guess the main point is that they’re not just rumors.’ Deuce seems to be thinking hard, and Ace laughs aloud.
‘I get asked about you all the time, too, but it’s not like I can say they're wrong or refute them, right?’
‘It’s okay to refute them! People are even coming to our classroom, now, to look in. I thought I was just imagining it at first, but…it’s probably the rumors.’
‘Well, you hear something like that and of course you’re gonna think, ‘I wonder how amazing that first-year really is,’ right?’
‘Speaking of which, on Friday, when I saw you talking to someone from another class,’ Deuce blinks as if having just remembered something. ‘I thought it was someone you knew―they were just hassling you?’
‘Yeah...I might have fainted if you hadn't walked up.’
‘That's a bit dramatic...but then again, not for Yuu, I guess.’
While he is an ordinary human, there is one thing that sets Yuuya apart from others: he detests fighting.
Even witnessing a conflict sets him on edge, and hearing the slightest argument makes him anxious. There is nothing that Yuuya would not do to avoid a fight.
And yet, it seems that a considerable number of students now view him as a rival. Night Raven College students have a lot of pride. Rumors about a special first-year student must have sparked their competitive spirit.
There is no end to the openly hostile students. Whenever he hears, ‘Hey, are you Yuu?,’ he gives an evasive answer and runs away.
‘What? Someone pickin’ a fight? We can’t just let ‘em mock Ramshackle Dorm.’ Grim growls, wrinkling his small, black nose. ‘Tell me who it is an’ where they are. I’ll knock ‘em right out!’
‘Absolutely not.’
‘Well, don’t let it get to you.’ Ace pats Yuuya on the back. He hasn’t stopped chuckling. ‘People will forget about the rumors sooner or later. Hang in there!’
‘That’s easy for you to say…’
If any of them were significantly involved in the situation with Riddle, it was Ace. But with the gossip about Yuuya spreading like wildfire Ace has been able to avoid any negative attention, skillfully keeping himself out of the trouble.
Perhaps he feels guilty about it. ‘You actually seem to be fitting in with the class more,’ he offers in assurance.
‘You think so? Nothing feels different.’
‘Yeah, I think you’re starting to fit in, too.’
Yuuya remains glum, even despite Deuce's encouragement. Ace and Deuce exchange glances and shrug."

can i ask about what happens After the overblots? im pretty sure its mentioned that the memories of overblotting are foggy but im not sure if any other symptoms are mentioned?
Hello hello! Thank you for this question!
The memory issues that happen with overblots are particularly interesting because we don't technically know at what point during the process it is that the overblotters lose consciousness!
Were Riddle and Leona even awake inside of their own minds when they tried to kill Ace and Ruggie? Did Azul consciously start stealing everyone's magic, or had he already been taken over on the inside and the physical transformation was the final step?
Tumblr media
Riddle does not seem to remember his overblot but it is possible that he remembered his flashback, as he references it when he regains consciousness.
These lines are identical across the game, manga and novel versions of Riddle's story.
Thanks to the second novel we might get more insight into Riddle's overblot that any other (as of this post):
"‘I can manage my own health just fine.’
He says this, but in reality, quite a bit of time had passed before he had been able to so much as stand on his own feet after overblotting.
He had felt so heavy; been in so much pain. It had been as if his entire body had burned itself out, along with his magical power."
-Twisted Wonderland the Second Novel
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It seems Riddle had not been even able to stand upright for a while in the novel, though we do see him standing shortly afterwards in the manga (due to the limitations of the visual novel medium, whether he was able to ever stand or not in the game is a little vague. He is escorted out of the scene by Trey and Crowley, and Trey is described as physically supporting him to the nurse's office in the novel).
Tumblr media
Leona's first line in the novel is "What did I...," but the lines above are otherwise identical and, like Riddle, Leona does not seem to remember what happened.
When Leona wakes up in the novel, Riddle explains to the others that Leona's consciousness may not have wholly returned yet and he is likely confused about what is going on.
Leona is also described as being physically spent in the novel: he refuses an offer from Crowley to help him up, but he repeatedly braces his hands against the ground as he struggles and fails to stand on his own in a sight that is described as "painful to behold." (He does eventually manage to rise to his feet without help.)
As Leona then suffers through several vengefully violent rounds of Spelldrive (it is explained that, aside from Cater and Trey, the other Spelldrive players like Jamil were unaware of his overblot), it will be interesting to read about his recovery if/when a third novel is released.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Azul doesn't seem to remember that he went "berserk" at all, presumably meaning that he doesn't remember the overblot. But this does not really answer the question of when, exactly, an overblot counts as an overblot: is the physical transformation necessary, or did losing his mind and using his unique magic without his contracts count?
(Azul does not need his contracts to enable his unique magic: he needs them to limit it, as his own magic is too powerful for him to control.)
Tumblr media
Much like the others Jamil also seems confused about what happened when he awakes, but unlike the others we receive a little bit more follow up:
Tumblr media
Jamil says that he has been able to successfully hide the real reason why he overblotted from his parents and Kalim's family, so while they know it happened, they don't know why.
But Jamil does know, and I think he might be the only overblotter who has come close to insinuating, "Not only is it possible to pinpoint the exact reason why I overblotted, but I know what it was."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Thank you to @oddberryshortcake for pointing out that it is insinuated that Jamil also needed time to recover from his overblot!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If the "overblotting happens internally over time as blot accumulates, prior the physical transformation that reflects it" theory is true, Vil reaching his point of no return might be easier to pinpoint than others.
(Vil's reaction upon awakening was localized as "How am I...?" on EN, but I would also suggest the alternative of, "Why am I...?")
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vil, too, seems confused about his situation upon regaining consciousness, but we find out later that he seems to remember a surprising amount about what happened post-transformation: he describes the phantom that appeared behind him in Book 5 as though he remembers seeing it for himself.
(Credit to @unrivalling for this follow-up, thank you very much!)
This is a fascinating revelation--do the other overblotters also remember what happened after they were overtaken, watching the events play out as if they were trapped inside of their own minds?
Tumblr media
Idia's reaction upon waking up is identical to Riddle's (in the original game), and--also like Riddle--he might also show signs of remembering something, immediately asking after Ortho (with whom he's been conversing in between being defeated and waking up).
To the initial question: yes! Memory issues seem to be one side effect of overblotting, and it might also be the only effect that gets referenced in the game.
Tumblr media
While post-overblot "medical treatment" is referenced it is not specified what kind of treatment was needed for what ailments.
There are many things in the novel that vary from the game and thus I would not recommend using the canon of one as proof in favor of or against the canon of the other. But we do get more details there about the physical toll that overblotting takes upon a mage's body, which might be of use for fanfic purposes? :>

Short translation from Twisted Wonderland: Bakery Day
"Yuuya hands over the money he had promised to Ace and Deuce, then lines up for his usual lunch set, alone.
There are fewer people in line than usual, and soon it is his turn to order. Today's menu is salmon cream stew.
Yuuya manages to secure seats for the group and his stew is still steaming hot when Grim arrives, a particular spring to his step.
Grim is carrying a variety of little packages; enough to fill both hands. He unloads them all onto the table and lifts the largest into the air.
‘Nyahaha, look at this, Yuu! I snatched the very last deluxe menchi katsu sandwich!’
Tumblr media
‘Wow, that’s amazing. Didn’t they say that’s their most popular? And you managed to get one.’
A tired-looking Ace and Deuce walk up from behind Grim.
‘An upperclassman was trying to buy it when Grim stole it from him.’
Hearing Deuce’s explanation Yuuya breathes a secret sigh of relief, silently reflecting, ’It’s a good thing I didn’t go with him.’
Ace glowers at the proud-looking Grim. ‘He’s stupidly fast, so the upperclassman thought I took it! He was seriously pissed off.’
‘Grim tried to steal just everything—it was tough trying to wrangle him.’
Tumblr media
‘Are you guys all right? Were you able to get what you wanted?’
Ace and Deuce smile as they place several white packages on the table in response to Yuuya’s question. Here and there Yuuya can see thick slices of roast beef and vibrant green lettuce. There are round breads bursting with cream, baguettes topped with melted cheese, and more—it seems they were able to buy quite a considerable amount.
But they still have change leftover, which they pass to Yuuya, so the prices must be student friendly. It makes sense that bakery days are so popular.
Still smiling, Ace and Deuce sit across from Yuuya.
‘Thanks for the food!’
‘Gonna dig right in!’
‘Of course. Thanks for helping with the repairs to Ramshackle.’”

Do you have a master list of the translated novel chapters so far? Or someplace to read all of them at once? If not, thanks anyways!
Hello hello! A compilation thread of translations from the first novel can be found here! It is not a complete translation of the entire novel, just a few blurbs that I found interesting for being different from the game, if that is okay :>
I hadn't put together a compilation of second-novel translations because it is still ongoing, but I can list them now!
(Disclaimer: I am very, very much not a writer, I promise that the actual book is much more well written than this, and I encourage everyone to read the official translation when it is released! The first novel is coming in August, 2024, from Viz Media!)
Introduction "In a corner of the prestigious magic school, Night Raven College, there stands an old, unused dormitory."
Yuuya and the Rumors “'What's the matter? You look a bit down,’ says the ghost."
The Classroom “'There's no way that Ramshackle can compete on the same level as our dorm—that’s a crowning moment. Us, being mocked like that? We wouldn’t stand for it.’"

Riddle on Leona: The Housewarden Meeting "'I don’t really mind putting him in the Hall of Fame,’ says the Ignihyde Housewarden in an unenthusiastic tone over his speaker."
Yuuya and Grim's Club Yuuya and Grim were told by the headmage that they would both have to choose the same club.

Meeting Jade and Floyd (pt4) "Yuuya finally understands why Riddle looked so displeased when they first arrived."
Meeting Silver and Lilia (pt1) "Silver is often doing physical training, even on days when he has no club activities."

Meeting Malleus (pt1) "‘Who's there?’ ‘Ah—' Suddenly, a voice from the darkness."
Meeting Malleus (pt2) "Yuuya quickly drops his eyes. Regardless of what those horns might be, it must be uncomfortable for one to have their physical attributes stared at in such a manner. Perhaps he has been rude."
Naming Malleus (pt1) "‘—and I guess it’s because I was so surprised, but I didn’t get any sleep at all last night.’"

Meeting Jamil and Kalim (pt3) "Jamil waits in silence for the conversation to pause, and then continues once more."
Riddle and Unique Magics "‘It's not something that just anyone can do. But the foundation for unique magic often lies in common, basic spells. A mage takes those spells and combines or improves upon them as needed.'"

Meeting Azul (pt1) “'Oh my, is that Jack Howl of Savanaclaw?’"

Leona Collared "Leona fights to remove the collar by force, his hair whipping about his face in his violent struggle."
Facing down an overblotting Leona, Riddle has a confession to make "Riddle confronts the glowering Leona with determination. ‘I am not mocking you. Leona-senpai. I respected you.’"
Leona and Lilia "Riddle is already looking ahead. He has his regrets and his turmoil, but he still continues on the path of becoming a good housewarden."
Leona's Unique Magic (pt1) "From somewhere comes a low voice. At first Yuuya cannot tell who it is, but looking around him he notices Ruggie, his eyes dark and shimmering."
Leona's Unique Magic (pt2) "Yuuya looks up at the sky in a daze, and then feels something tickle at his ankle. Gently moving sand is pricking at his skin."
Leona and Ruggie, to overblot (pt1) "‘Leona-san, what are you thinking!?’ Ruggie steps in front of Leona. ‘Why would you use your unique magic like this…if you keep going—‘ ‘Why?’ Leona interrupts. 'Obviously, it’s to shut you all up.’"
Leona and Ruggie, to overblot (pt2) "‘Right, Ruggie? I really can't stand people who don't listen. I thought you would've figured that out by now. You're skilled at reading people's moods and selling them flattery, after all.’"
The Transformation "‘It is you who should be silent!’ Lilia shouts."
Cater and Yuuya "'Ruggie is lying nearby. Yuuya wraps one of Ruggie’s arms around his shoulders and Grim attempts to take a share of Ruggie’s weight by grabbing onto his thin waist, but the limp body weighs them down."
Ruggie Wakes Up "Jack's agile wolf body slides across the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust and dirtying his fur. Leona gives him a cold, piercing glance."
The Overblot Battle "Columns of sand rise up and advance towards Ruggie and the others, engulfing everything in their path."
Leona and Falena "From the moment I was born, there’s been a boulder on top of me that’s too heavy to move."
Post-Overblot Leona (the flashback monologue) "I grew tired of thinking, so I decided to enroll at Night Raven College, though I had no interest in it. I knew I was just running away from the pain, but my heart felt lighter, nonetheless."
Jack and Leona (pt4) "‘All this messing around. We don’t have time for this!’ Released from Ruggie’s unique magic, Leona rubs against his reddened cheeks and raises his eyes."
Trusting Riddle "In the very front row, Riddle puts a hand to his mouth as he shouts, ‘What are you getting despondent over? Defeat Leona-senpai, beat the crap out of him!’ The normally refined Riddle swings his fist around."
The Exhibition Match (pt1) "The disc passes to Deuce as he races down the side of the field. Deuce is not as skilled as Ace, but he has stamina, and he is fast on his feet. He effortlessly overtakes the grouped players of Yuuya and the others, steadily advancing towards the goal."
The Exhibition Match (pt2) "With a glance for the ghosts who come for him, Leona sharply calls out, ‘Jack!’"
The Exhibition Match (pt3) "Ruggie and Jack rush to Leona, who has fallen to his knees, his hands flat on the ground."
Cheka (pt1) "‘Unca, I finally found you!’ Something bounces like a ball into the infirmary."
Cheka (pt2) "Cheka looks to Jack with his large, round eyes, only to turn abruptly about and go to hug Leona again."
Cheka (pt3) "'Perhaps realizing that he is being laughed at, Cheka looks around the room with a curious look."
(While these translations are still ongoing, a summary/comparison of the the second novel and the game has completed! Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8)

Hey Rei? You? Mod? I was wondering if you did the speech Lilia said to Leona right before his overblot? I tried looking under the masterlist and couldn't find it or are you leasing up to it in the latest translation post from where I can see your at in the plot going in somewhat order.
Hello hello!! Thank you so much for this question!
Yes yes, Lilia's interaction with Leona is just two pages in between two sections that have already been translated--and here it is! :>
(This scene connects directly to the end of here)
"Riddle is already looking ahead. He has his regrets and his turmoil, but he still continues on the path of becoming a good housewarden.
There are some who dismiss the changes wrought by his overblot as too good to be true.
But Riddle is not so weak as to let words like that hinder his progress.

‘I’m disappointed, Leona Kingscholar. This is so unbecoming I can hardly bear to look at you. You wanted to defeat Malleus-senpai and become king, did you not? But for what purpose? You need to reflect seriously upon what it is that you have done.’
Leona’s eyes narrow, as though the sight of Riddle’s dignified figure is causing him physical pain.
‘Projecting your own issues onto other people, saying whatever you like—you think you understand me? You know nothing, and here you are lecturing me just like my older brother.’
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lilia laughs aloud.
‘Somethin’ funny?’ Leona asks as if making a threat, but Lilia’s hearty, happy-go-lucky laughter is unaffected.
‘How pathetic! Who do you think you are, the King of Beasts? A man like you is better suited to that collar than any crown.’
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lilia’s presence has changed.
That is the thought that comes, unbidden, to Yuuya’s mind. He seems to overwhelm everything around him, and yet all he does is smile. How does he speak with such authority? Yuuya feels himself burdened by immense weight following every word that Lilia says aloud.
Leona seems to feel it too, that pressure, and is surprised at himself for it. Seeing Leona flinch, Lilia narrows his red eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
‘Mourning the king that you will never become due to the circumstances of your birth, you live a life of idleness, and are so narrow-minded as to shift blame upon your vassals when things go awry. I cannot believe that you have the dignity required of a king. All you offer is complaints and envy. It is unseemly.’
While Lilia’s words are not violent, his voice is filled with contempt. Leona flushes crimson red.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
‘It is laughable to think that you could ever compete with Malleus as you are. He is a far more severe, far kinder, and far greater man than you.’
‘Shut up…shut up! Be silent!’
‘It is you who should be silent!’ Lilia shouts. ‘Face the truth. Even if you were to defeat Malleus, if you do not understand what Riddle is telling you, then you can never become a true king!’
All at once, Leona’s expression has gone blank.
‘Leona-senpai…?’ Jack gives a faint whimper, his pupils dilating. Something has frightened him.”

Translation from Twst the 2nd novel: Cater, Grim, Riddle, Ace, Deuce, Grim and the prefect split up into pairs to ask about the accidents befalling Spelldrive players:
Tumblr media
"‘Yuu will come with me.’
‘Eh? 'Yuu will come with me?’’ Yuuya echoes Riddle’s words back at him with a puzzled look. ‘The two of us will be doing the investigation together?’
‘Yes. I believe that this is the best arrangement.’
‘Eh, but, no, uh…I can’t use magic, so I think I will only be a burden for you.’
‘That is precisely why I am pairing you with myself. The best possible solution is us working together so that you will have my support, as the person with the strongest magic and the deepest understanding of the school.’
‘I was thinking that I might do all right with one of the others, though.’
Riddle points a finger at each member of the group, in turn, as he explains: ‘Cater is to pair with Grim. Cater can get along with anyone, and he will cover for Grim’s erratic behavior. Ace and Deuce are to investigate while seeing to their various tasks around the dorm. The first-years are busy with dormitory work this time of year, as the upperclassmen must prepare for the Spelldrive tournament.’
Riddle’s plan makes perfect sense. But there is no allowance to be made for Yuuya, who can already feel himself becoming overwhelmed.
Yuuya and Riddle have hardly ever held a conversation. And those rare times that they have interacted have not been on particularly friendly terms. And now they are to be alone together, and Yuuya cannot tell how he is even supposed to interact.
He is uncomfortable about approaching Riddle casually, like Ace and Deuce, and he cannot imagine Riddle initiating a friendly conversation, as if he is no different from Trey and Cater.
‘Do you object?’ Riddle asks with a curious look, in response to Yuuya’s stuttering. Despite Yuuya’s frankness, Riddle seems oblivious to the possibility that he may be disliked.
Yuuya is, honestly, somewhat afraid of Riddle. Possibly even more so than he had been back when Riddle was called the tyrant. Because, now, he has seen Riddle’s overblot form.
How can a human possibly harbor such forceful rage, such crippling sadness?
As someone who avoids all conflict in favor of going about his life as peacefully as possible, Yuuya has difficulty understanding this ruthlessness. Does Riddle feel nothing towards these people with whom he clashed barely a month prior? Is Yuuya the only one uncomfortable with the idea of being alone with him?
Yuuya glances to Ace and Deuce for help, but they both shrug. While nothing is said aloud, Yuuya manages to deduce what they mean through the movement of their lips: ‘Sorry, Yuu.’ ‘We can’t stop him.’
Flustered, Yuuya looks to Grim, who is quite happily focused on his tea and cookies. Blissfully oblivious to Yuuya’s situation, Grim is most content.
While looking a bit uncomfortable where he sits at Riddle’s side, Cater manages a smile. ‘Well, not much we can do. If you insist, Riddle-kun, then…’
Riddle gives a firm nod in response.
‘Our hands are tied,’ Cater says, with a wink and a wry smile for Yuuya. ‘It’s true that, for efficiency and to keep Yuu-chan safe, this might be the best option. Leave Gri-chan to me.’
‘Good. No objections?’
‘Can’t be helped. I’ll look out for Cater for ya.’
‘Got it! Understood!’ Ace’s reply is enthusiastic, and he spares a side glance to the flustered Yuuya. Ace has been grinning all the while, likely entertained by the combination of Yuuya and Riddle.
‘In that case, let us go our separate ways. Everyone get an appropriate amount of rest in order to be prepared for tomorrow.’
The three groups set their rendezvous locations, and the strategy meeting ends.
While they are, admittedly, making progress, Yuuya leaves Heartslabyul with a heavy heart.”

I was wondering, is there anything in the novels where Yuuya going into a club is brought up? I remember reading that NRC requires its students to join a club, so I wanted to know if the novel covered anything about them with Yuuya.
Thank you so much for this question! You are absolutely correct, Yuuya joined a club and it is explained in the second novel!
"Yuuya and Grim were told by the headmage that they would both have to choose the same club. As they were only able to enroll at all on the condition that they form two halves of a single student, it seemed like a reasonable request to Yuuya, particularly as he has also been charged with corralling Grim, as his prefect. Yuuya had no objection.
Their issue had been not being able to decide on what club to join until right up until the deadline.
Grim had not shown much interest in most of the clubs they visited. He had seemed intrigued by the Science Club, as their activities sometimes involved cooking, and the Pop Music Club, where the members share snacks during breaks, but his stubborn personality led to rejections from club advisors and members alike.
Grim can simply not resist food. While debating what they should do, Crewel had shared with them that, while it involves numerous, complicated procedures, there are students who form new clubs on their own. And that is what they decided to do.
Together they founded the ‘Gourmet Research Club.' Of course, it was Grim’s idea.
‘An’ what’s wrong with it? It’s the best club there is. All the delicious food we can eat.’
‘If there's a relatively easy way to get that delicious food, that is.’
Due to financial restraints it was already difficult enough to acquire gourmet food at all.
With some persuasion Grim had finally been convinced to focus on comparing edible wild plants, and their current mission is to find the apple tree with the most delicious apples on campus.
When Yuuya explained that they were making a list of all the apple trees at the school, Ace and Deuce had burst out laughing."
- Twisted Wonderland the Second Novel
While the first two arcs of the manga seem emphasize the club activities of their two protagonists (kendo for Yuuken in the first arc, judo for Yuuka in the second) and we have Yuuta working at his family restaurant in episode of Octavinelle, we learn in the first novel that Yuuya did not have an after school club activity back in his home world (and may have suffered some peer pressure because of it).
"6th period classical literature class had ended, with Yuuya’s classmates and senpai alike giving him the side-eye as they dispersed to their club activities and he, as usual, hurried to leave for home. He had passed through the school gate, and then—“

I was wondering, in the game how many people know about Yuu is actually from the other world and their reaction. Also, who still didn’t know about that? I think now only Diasomnia dorm still think that Yuu just normal magicless right? What about in the novels? Is it the same or an open secret from beginning.
Thank you so much for this question!
Diasomnia seems aware--or at least Lilia is, according to his in-game dialogue--Jamil comments that "You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone at this school who doesn't know who you are," it does not seem to be a secret in the novels, either!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is one particular line in the second novel that seems to insinuate that it is common knowledge at the school, as far as Yuuya knows:
"Yuuya is surprised by the thought that the housewarden of Octavinelle would be interested in hearing about him, of all people, but then he remembers the rumors that surround him, and gives an awkward smile.
Ramshackle dorm, where he lives with a monster. Inter-dimensional travel that no one understands. Riddle’s incident.
There is only so much stimulation available within a school, making any one of those topics ripe for discussion. There are plenty of people who want to know more about the rumors.
‘It must be terribly inconvenient to be living in an unknown world. If there is any way that I might be of assistance, I would be delighted to help. Let us discuss this in more detail, next time.’"
So it seems that Yuuya believes that everyone at the school is already aware of at least the rumors that he is not from around there :>

Translation from Twisted Wonderland the 2nd novel: Leona and Jack (pt1/4)
"It was three years ago, when Jack was still in middle school.
He saw the Night Raven College Spelldrive tournament on television, and had been captivated."
With their flawless teamwork, Savanaclaw Dorm had secured an overwhelming victory. And there was one athlete, in particular, that Jack hadn't been able to take his eyes off of. His judgement, agility and skills were beyond compare, and the entire team had revolved around him.
A first year student who had only just enrolled: Leona Kingscholar.
'So this is the kind of amazing person that goes to Night Raven College.' Jack had recorded the match immediately, watching it over and over again.
If he had been on the opposing team, how would he have fought against Leona? If they had been on the same team, how would they have worked together? It was fun just to think about.
The following year, that Malleus Draconia had enrolled in the school. There had been a lot of talk leading up to the competition and, as expected, Malleus alone had dominated with his exceptional talent.
Jack watched Savanaclaw suffer a brutal defeat, but he had not been disappointed. Instead, he had felt a surge of passion. He had been deeply moved by the sight of Leona and his team fighting with all they had, and losing.
Admittedly, those who saw the tournament that day spoke of nothing but Malleus. Not a single other player on the field had been able to leave any sort of impression whatsoever.
But standing and fighting against such a formidable opponent and giving it their all--Savanaclaw had been awe-inspiring.
No matter how incredible Malleus’ power might be, from a team perspective, Savanaclaw—led by Leona, whom they had made into their boss—had excelled far beyond everyone else.
The roar of frustration that Leona released that day had stirred something alive inside of Jack.
Someday, I want to fight someone as strong as he is.
‘Back then, you were so amazing when you tried. That’s why I…!’
‘Don’t act like you already know all that’s going on, new kid!’ Leona’s reprimand echoes around them, putting everyone on edge.
There is no creature alive that will not cower before a lion’s roar.
Even Ruggie, who can be said to be Leona’s confidant, holds his breath.
‘You’re telling me to try? What a joke. And what will that change?’ Leona’s anger is most acute, intimidating to the point it is demoralizing.
Faced with such pressure from a man who is normally so unreadable, Jack feels sweat running down his back."

Short translation from the second Twisted Wonderland novel: Cater and Yuuya
"'Ruggie is lying nearby. Yuuya wraps one of Ruggie’s arms around his shoulders and Grim attempts to take a share of Ruggie’s weight by grabbing onto his thin waist, but the limp body weighs them down.
‘He’s heavier than he looks…can’t we just leave ‘im?’
‘Not a chance,’ Yuuya responds, and with a shout of encouragement they manage to lift Ruggie between them.
In his efforts to catch up with Ace and Deuce Yuuya lifts his head, only to find himself locking eyes with Leona.
His leather vest, his shirt—all of it has melted together. Now, instead of his dorm uniform, Leona wears black, dripping blot that clings to him like a second skin.
Leona points a finger—dripping with blot—at Yuuya, and gives him an eerie smile.
‘You all leaving me behind? But I’ll get lonely.’
Sand rises like ocean waves around them, threatening to engulf them all.
‘Watch out!’ Grim diverts a direct hit with his wind magic, but the mass of sand from above rains down, crushing Yuuya beneath its weight.
Struggling to drag himself free from where he has collapsed, Yuuya hears Cater: ‘Are you two all right!?’
‘Yes, sort of…’ Yuuya coughs, dragging himself to his feet. His whole body is trembling.
Huge fissures begin to up around them. Having abandoned all reason, all limitations, Leona’s magic is splitting apart the earth and altering the very landscape.
Standing tall in the broken wasteland, the monster seems even larger than before. It gives a roar as though taking pride in its great power, and raises its sharp claws in the air.
Cater repels the monster’s attack with magic of his own, giving a wave to Ace and Deuce, who watch them with concern.
‘We’re all right here, so you two go help with the evacuation!’
Though they look back constantly the pair do run off to help, and when they are finally on their way, supporting injured students, Cater breathes a gentle sigh.
‘…aw, man, we were almost able to escape. How do we always end up in these scary situations? Cay-kun and Yuu-chan. I think we’re the two who are least suited for this kind of thing, too.’
As they watch the monster pawing at the dirt in frustration, Yuuya furrows his brows.
They will not be able to escape this barren, ruined land while carrying Ruggie, the focus of Leona’s ire.
The lion charges for them and Cater creates a transparent barrier, repelling it again. Such magic may be taking a considerable toll upon him: Yuuya can distinctly hear the gritting of his teeth.
Running towards them, Riddle adds another layer to Cater’s defensive barrier.
‘Cater. If you’re afraid, you are free to go.’
‘If I leave Riddle-kun behind, Trey-kun is going to be cross with me.’
Cater has just said that he and Yuuya are always getting into these situations, but Yuuya knows it isn’t true.
Unlike Yuuya himself, who has no magical power, Cater should have been able to evacuate on his own without too much difficulty.
But he won’t run.
Just like the mock Spelldrive game against Savanaclaw, just like Riddle’s overblot—he stayed. In the end, Cater looks out for those around him. That's what Yuuya thinks as he watches Cater, glistening with sweat.
He jokes that he fears Trey’s rage, but there is no regret on his smiling face.
‘I’m here with you until the end, Housewarden.’
‘Very well. That is what it means to be a Heartslabyul student, after all.'"

Short translation from the second Twisted Wonderland novel: Riddle and Unique Magics
"‘It's not something that just anyone can do. But the foundation for unique magic often lies in common, basic spells. A mage takes those spells and combines or improves upon them as needed.'
‘Does that mean that you cannot discover your unique magic without studying?,’ Yuuya asks.
With a contemplative look, Riddle responds, ’That is not always the case, but it was for me. For others, it may manifest from their own, unique characteristics. And there may be examples of unique magic being born from mere chance.’
Riddle glances around the dining hall. Although it is no longer the peak lunch hour, many students still remain. He is probably considering their unique magics.
With a slight smile, Riddle says, ‘But it is still very rare for two people to have the same magic. It is decided by personal qualities and skills. That is why it is called, ‘unique’.’
Grim exhales a loud sigh. ‘Aw, man…I’m jealous. I want a cool unique magic, too!’
‘I know how you feel. Having a unique magic of your own—that’s the dream of every mage.’ Deuce clenches his hand into a fist.
‘In that case, you have to learn the fundamentals,’ Riddle responds in a kind voice.
He likely finds the first-years’ aspirations endearing.
Riddle learned ‘Off With Your Head’ when he was only ten years old. According to Trey, it was the result of Riddle’s devotion to his studies and his mother’s strict supervision.
What were the factors that led up to him forming a magic that seals away the abilities of others? The catalyst, the circumstances, the extent of his hard work—Yuuya does not know any of it.
There is no way that the magicless Yuuya could ever comprehend it, but he is fairly certain that it was not all fun and games. And yet, when Riddle is explaining magic, his expression is gentler than usual.
He seems to be enjoying it.
Perhaps not everything is a result of his mother’s coercion; maybe, he truly likes magic."

Translation from Twisted Wonderland the 2nd novel: Cheka (pt3)
"'Perhaps realizing that he is being laughed at, Cheka looks around the room with a curious look.
‘Why’s everybody laughing? Are you Unca’s friends?’
The fearsome Leona, the boss of Savanaclaw, called ‘Unca’ so affectionately by a child like this.
Possibly emboldened by the laughter, Ace bursts out with ‘I can’t take it anymore!,’ speaking freely to Leona. ‘You bet, that’s us—Unca’s friends! Isn’t that right, Unca Leona?’
‘Knock it off…!’
In a panic Yuuya tries to call off Ace in response to Leona’s menacing growl, but none of them can restrain themselves now. Ace, Ruggie, Grim and Deuce all burst out laughing.
Jack bites down on his own lower lip, doing all he can to not join in.
Yuuya glances fearfully to his side to be met with the fierce look in Leona’s eyes.
‘You bastards. I’ll remember this…!’
In response to Leona’s terrifying expression, Yuuya feels a strange sense of relief, which surprises him. Faced with the rage that emanates from Leona, Yuuya realizes that he, himself, has been tense for quite some time.
For how long? And why?
Yuuya smiles without even realizing he does it, and Leona gives him a menacing look. ‘Even you—you’ve got some nerve.’
It is as though Leona may grab him by the collar and lift him into the air at any moment. Yuuya does his best to manage a neutral expression in an attempt to prove that it was not Leona that he was smiling about.
‘Unca Leona…ahaha—ow!’ Ruggie furrows his brows, chuckling all the while. ‘Uhg, laughing hurts.’
‘I’m going to make sure that not a single one of you can ever open your mouths again…!’
‘Hey now—please rest, both of you,’ Jack says, hurriedly pressing down against Leona’s shoulder as Leona attempts to push himself upright in bed.
It is not the kind of commotion that one would expect to walk in upon in an infirmary.
Soon, people identified as Cheka’s guards come to retrieve him, and Yuuya heaves a heavy sigh, sinking back into his bed."
(from the following scene ↓)
“They had to carry Leona to the nurse’s office an’ he was wreckin’ havoc, sayin’ 'I'm fine!’ the whole time.’
‘Oh…that sounds really scary. It might have been for the best that I was unconscious for it.’
Grim gives a deep sigh. It must have been quite a scene.
’They were wrappin’ 'im up in bandages an’ the whole time he was all mad about it, about bein’ treated like he was hurt. But just lookin’ at ‘im—anyone could tell he was, y’know? He wouldn’t listen to a thing anyone had to say, so in the end Vargas and them scolded ‘im and had to force ‘im to lie down.’
‘He was really that upset?’
‘Yeah. He was shoutin’ over an’ over that he’ll beat Malleus the next time. The guy never learns.’
'That’s good—' Yuuya says, and he suddenly realizes the source of his lingering unease. How quiet Leona had been--that's what had frightened him.
Once Leona had accepted his defeat, had abandoned the tournament, his calm demeanor had seemed to be on the verge of resignation. The sight of his blank expression had made Yuuya think that maybe he truly had given up on everything.
His eyes, so gentle, had been filled with loneliness.
His voice had held neither joy nor sadness.
Though Yuuya dislikes confrontation, Leona's silence had seemed to warn of a vulnerability that could lead to something even more terrifying.
With the banishing of that silence it seems Yuuya feels, quite simply, relieved.
Leona had been akin to a piece of art, listless and unmoving. Yuuya finds it strange to realize that he is more at ease with a Leona who shouts and contorts his face in rage."
