I loooooove unrequited blackbright, specifically when it’s Blackquill who’s doing the romantic pining. I think unrequited blackbright can either be the funniest thing in the world or some of the most depressing angst possible cause you either have
A. This extremely intimidating and honestly scary samurai prosecutor being hopelessly in love with the most oblivious and obnoxiously positive detective on earth and it’s just the epitome of “I hate that I love you”
or (ace attorney dual destinies spoilers under the cut)
B. A question that asks if you can love someone you’ve never met. How do you even get over that type of heartbreak? Who did Blackquill love? I mean, of course it was the Fulbright he knew, but how accurate was that performance? He can listen to anecdotes of the man, hear how his friends and family “had no idea” and “would’ve never guessed,” match these memories shared with him to his own impression, but he can never really know. Would he have been able to tell? Probably not. But to be given that chance and not know the difference—that could be enough. He can never get that chance now. Fulbright only exists in the past tense, and their relationship only exists in the hypothetical.
