Touhou 17.5 - My Dream Cast (not the console)

So Touhou 17.5 was delayed again recently, and honestly I don't mind at all. I wasn't just super impressed with the demo, so I hope the final game will end up having a lot of improvements! As far as tasofro, I think they should take their time as much as they need, and I'm guessing ZUN feels the same way. I hope they're doing okay.

That said, that doesn't stop my wondering... we have Kanako as a confirmed playable, and Yamame, Kogasa, and Yuugi as most likely playable. With those three, it really seems like Tasofro is trying to give some Touhous that have been rather underutilized the spotlight, which is very exciting! So, here are the Touhous I'd personally really like to see in 17.5. This may or may not just be me gushing about underutilized personal favorites.

1. Clownpiece

Firstly, of course, it's Clownpiece. Ya know how most Touhou characters have characters attached to them? Like, when we see Youmu, we generally think Yuyuko is involved in some way - same for Sakuya, Sanae, and many more. It's these character attachments that make certain Touhou characters really cool, because generally that means that through their inclusion, we get to learn more about who is behind them. It is for that reason that I'd REALLY like to see more Clownpiece! Junko and Hecatia are such cool moms and I want more of them. I think it's a safe bet to say Clownpiece as a character here is likely, because we know we'll be dealing with the third boss from the Animal Realm, and the Animal Realm is in hell. I really hope that 17.5 sheds more light on hell's current power struggle, ideally through Clownpiece.

2. Seiran

Second, Seiran. Now you may wonder "why Seiran? What's even interesting about her?" Well first of all, I love her design, okay? But second of all, I just think it would be really cool to establish her as a character that cares about others now that she has escaped a pretty bad situation herself! Reisen already kind of fills that role, true... but I just want more Seiran. I also really like Ringo, so maybe she can come too.

3. Aunn Komano

ZUN really just introduced one of his best designs and hasn't really done anything with her since! I mean... that design is an ACHIEVEMENT! She is so good! I want to like her more! So give me more Aunn content! The thing about Aunn is that her motivations seem pretty aligned with Reimu's, so it may be difficult to give her her own journey... but I'm sure it could be pulled off.

4. Sekibanki

Honestly, what more is there even to say? I'd be happy with any of the DDC cast, really, from Waka to Kagerou to Benben & Tsukumo (is that her name?) to Seija. I don't think you can put Seija somewhere and her not be interesting, but she has already gotten her own spinoff title, so I kind of want her return to be significant. For now, how about another character - Sekibanki, perhaps. As a Dullahan, Sekibanki has a lot of fighting game potential, so I think she'd be perfect.

5. Urumi Uzamaki Ushizaki

Has this post kind of just been me posting my favorite Touhou designs from recent games and asking for more? Yes, and the trend continues here. Urumi has a really cool design. That's honestly really about it that I have to say for this character. I don't think she's very likely, because I think Keiki or Mayumi would be much more likely. And to be fair, I'd love Keiki and/or Mayumi as well. But I'm like 90% sure Keiki will be in this game, so I'm not putting her on this list.

So yeah uhh this was just one big opinion post but nonetheless maybe you enjoyed reading it. I'm excited for 17.5 even if the gameplay does end up being a bit weird. Even Kogasa and Yamame being playable is already enough for me, but I do really hope the rest of the cast keeps up the trend so far of characters who haven't really been used much.
