I do think one thing ac6 loses out on compared to the older games is the "economic anxiety simulator" those games do soooo well. 6 is very permissive with money. Grinding for money is actually a thing you can do and will probably happen even if you aren't trying (ie in the arena, replaying old missions for alt story beats, re-killing the strider for funsies). Even choosing to use difficult to manage weapons with expensive ammo, I've never actually gone negative balance in any mission in 6. Comparing that to ac4 or ac1 where I've gone negative because I made slightly bad choices for like 30 seconds, it's night and day. I think having mission rewards be much sparser is both interesting from a weapon/strategy balancing standpoint and also consistent with the overall dystopian atmosphere the games are trying to create. In AC6 I'm killing people with the energy sword because it's fun. In AC1 I'm killing people with the energy sword because it's FREE and I am broke and trying to pay off that car I stepped on last week. I think it's overall more tonally consistent to have your character compromise their morality, ruin their body, and then still have their card decline in the chipotle after they've already made the burrito.

For most of the AC6 characters, if I were in their situations I would simply die. Except Swinburne. I'm built different and if my only chance of survival was to embezzle a large sum of money from my company I would simply Not Get Caught. I would block Snail's number entirely and not tell him shit about it. Skill issue, dude.

the most fundamental problem with dorohedoro is that I really want to make one of those memes where each character is some supportive cliche ("believe in yourself", "your feelings matter" etc) but there is literally no character that wouldn't belong in the "murder is okay" square ever. The whole cast goes in that square.

I think the 3v1 against King, Chartreuse and Realven at the dam complex is karmic punishment for 3v1ing Index in the early game. You have to walk a mile in his shoes and get ganked by three jackasses with a weird group dynamic.

Dorohedoro really walks this amazing line where Kaiman's previous life is implied to be profoundly sinister at every turn, it's clear he was entangled in some fucked up shit even before we really understand what the cross-eyes are, but nonetheless, Kaiman himself is just some guy. A very guy-like dude. And then Risu, the shadow in the doorway, the dark pall over the story, the guy who knows everything, who is clearly the key to the puzzle, gets resurrected. And he's also just some guy. Perhaps even more guy-like than Kaiman himself.
