Can’t get drunk, I have a rule against it, so I’m gonna make predictions because that feels like what I imagine doing shots is like. And then shut up, I promise.

I think - that Liz Cheney is a very clever person. The January 6 hearings are doing a great, bipartisan job of explaining the attempted coup and identifying those responsible. Both sides want to stop Trump from running again. He’s a loose cannon, despised by even the politicians who use him. But the hearings are also carefully framing Pence as a hero who did not go along with the coup. President Pence next election is the goal.

Pence wants a nationwide ban on abortion - no more safe states. All legal rights and due process are rapidly being destroyed. by the Supreme Court supermajority, with a few sane but helpless justices writing increasingly despairing and ominous dissents. The right to birth control will be taken away. Trans people, who are the current target for the mob’s anger, will lose the right to even exist.

Same-sex marriage will be next, followed by criminalizing homosexuality and anything labeled as kink (did you know that in some states oral sex was a felony until relatively recently? There was a couple who divorced and the wife had the bright idea of accusing her ex of having gone down on her, consensually, during their marriage. She got him sent to prison. I kid you not.)

Separation of church and state will go fast. Expect mandatory Christian prayer and indoctrination in schools, at a minimum. Increasingly open discrimination against anyone perceived to not be a WASP (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant).

The US will likely continue to try and prevent anyone who is not White from seeking asylum, and those who do anyway will continue to be treated badly. But under Trump there was also a widespread practice of taking infants away from immigrant parents, for adoption by Christians. Biden stopped it. It will start again. There is a major demand for “adoptable” babies. (Overturning Roe is also meant to help with that.)

Interracial marriage might or might not be protected because Justice Thomas is in one. But Mitch McConnell and Alito are both virulently racist, and mass incarceration and prison labor are extremely profitable. Also, cops. Also, guns. Etc.

Thousands are taking to the streets tonight. I do not think we as a people will tolerate a fascist theocracy, not indefinitely. But we should get prepared to survive in one. Be ready to help our neighbors and support each other, instead of infighting and gatekeeping.
