The unmistakable red glow of sunlight came as a relief, hindered by the pummels of smoke where fires still raged in no mans land. The stench of blood and burning greeting the base just a few miles away. It had been a hard night, it was clear enough by the quiet that settled that morning, both sides exhausted.
Captain Johnson took part in seeing if anything of one of their hit planes could be salvaged. Carefully moving around where the bombs were held and looking to free the propeller if he could. He was not expecting someone to be so close and as he stepped around the plane, he spotted them and immediately drew his gun as he retreated back out of sight behind the plane, pressing himself to its side and hopefully out of the other’s view.
“Steady now!” He ordered to the figure he had not been able to determine was friend or foe.
