Card for 2017; Jaguar, Integrity, Impeccability
Here we are, finally getting a post to stay up--yay! Anyway, one of my resolutions was to get this blog up and running. Another is to work with my cards more. It seemed the two were destined to collide; hopefully in a happy way.
This was the card I pulled for the major energy of 2017. Why did I use this deck? Simple, it is what I had out on New Year’s Day. It is one of my favorite decks, the 1999 copyright deck and book set by Jamie Sams and David Carson, published by St. Martin’s Press. It is something of a pet peeve of mine when folks use images from the decks they use, and don’t even tell you what they are called, where you can find them, or anything else! Ahem.
You may or may not know, that the so-unlamented late year of 2016 was, by numerological accounts, a 9 year. This is because the digits of 2+0+1+6=9. Nine is the end of a cycle, as our numerological system is oriented around a base 10, or 0-9, system. Zero, not one, is the beginning, or the ending, depending if you are counting decades or not. In most cases, the zero just becomes the place holder for the next “tens”, such as counting by tens. 20, 30, 40, etc.
In numerology, which I am still learning, btw, zero is usually first, and 9, the last in cycles. If you think about it, it is the same in tarot: The Fool, is trump 0.
But if 2016 was a 9 year, that makes 2017 a 1 year, a year of new beginnings, and a new cycle. Beginnings usually have their awkward moments, so a little bit of extra insight might be quite helpful. Such is my intent, at least.
Now, on to the interpretation of this card, and how it might apply to this year.
In brief, the lovely story that the authors use to highlight the meaning of this card, is connected to the great Mayan Empire, before it fell into wicked practices, such as human sacrifice. The Jaguar Spirit (capitalized to show deity/significance) was the totem of Mayan Skygod, that gave the laws to the people, via the priests. When the priests themselves abused their power, the Jaguar Spirit began haunting the dreams, and eventually, the waking hours, of the evil-doers.
Questions to ask oneself about this card, and this year, especially in relation to one’s activities: Have you misused your authority? Is your integrity in need of polishing? Have you done some good in the world, without thought of reward? Are you doing everything to your personal best? Your reward, or punishment, may soon be forthcoming. Are you making apologies, amends, or other signs of contrition when things go wrong, you make mistakes, or cross boundary lines? Those are the actions of people with integrity. Remember, integrity (or morals, as some call it) is acting your best in every way, at every moment, as you would want to be treated, regardless of whether anyone- or any One- is watching.
I believe this concept will be much in the news this year, as well, both here and abroad.
