Alki is the eldest son of an affluent Greek family from Istanbul, with Pontic roots. To say that he grew up in an authoritarian household is an understatement. As his father's mental illness worsens, the abuse at home escalates, and once Alki gets disinherited thanks to his youngest brother, he leaves the city and sets out to make his own money (not without a little financial aid from mom). Kronos devouring his children? That quite literally happens at one point.

When he meets Faní, he has long cut all connections to his parents and siblings. The resulting issue of feeling unloveable is one of the reasons he mostly represses his bisexuality.
