It felt a little strange. You couldn't remember when was the last time you had seen him or even heard someone mention his name. Yet he was here, face to face with you, after all those years.
"What are you doing here?" Severide asked. His voice brought you back to the present. By the look on his face, you could tell he was surprised. If it was a good surprise or a bad one, you couldn't tell. He’s always been really good at hiding his feelings. "I thought you had moved to Florida."
"I-I did." You smiled, nodding your head. "Couldn't get used to the weather, though." You confessed, earning a short laugh from the firefighter. You stared at him for a few seconds, lost in your thoughts, not knowing what to say next.
“So,” Severide tilted his head to the side. “What brings you back to Chicago?”. He curiously asked. “Don’t tell me it’s because of the weather.”
You laughed, then flashed a weak smile, looking at the paperwork in your hands. “Work, actually. A new school just opened up and they got in touch with me. Apparently they heard about the work I was doing down in Florida and wanted me to be part of their team.”
“That’s great.” Severide smiled. “I’m sure you're the best person for the job. You never loved anything more than teaching.”
The way he said it made your chest hurt. Your smile instantly faded away. “Kelly…” You took a step closer, trying to keep the conversation private. “Don’t do this. You know I loved you. Right?” You gently squeezed his arm.
“I know that.” He nodded, looking away before meeting your eyes again. "I know you loved me. I just don’t understand why you didn’t love me enough to stay."
The words caught you off guard. Before you could say anything back, he softly touched your hand on his arm and wished you goodbye.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A knock on the door startled Severide as he was finishing his report from the last call. Glancing at the glass door, he saw Alie waving her hand as she flashed him a small smile.
“Hey.” He whispered, opening the door.
“Hey. Can I come in?” She kept her voice down, afraid she would wake up the team sleeping in the bunk room.
Nodding his head, Severide opened the door a little further so Alie could step inside his office, then closed it again. Seating back on his chair, he watched Ailie get comfortable in his bed.
“You okay?” He asked, cocking his head to the side, not sure what she wanted to talk about.
“Yeah. I wanted to make sure you are okay, actually.” She confessed, noticing a frown appearing in Severide’s face. “I’m not blind, Sev. I noticed your reaction when Sylvie came running inside the firehouse with another letter from Casey. What was that about?”
Biting the inside of his cheek, Severide looked outside the window, avoiding Alie’s big brown eyes, as the same thoughts consumed his mind, over and over again.
“Sev, please, talk to me.” Sitting closer to her friend, Alie’s lips curved slightly into a smirk. “Did you get upset cause Casey didn’t send you a letter too?” She playfully asked, but Severide didn’t laugh. As he turned his face to look at Alie, she was surprised to see tears in his eyes.
“Stella, she-...” He shook his head and bit his lip, struggling to put his feelings into words. “She doesn't reply to my texts or my calls. When she does, it’s always something short and simple, she doesn’t even want to talk to me. And I don’t know what to do.” He confessed, blinking away the tears, trying to look strong.
“I’m so sorry, Sev.” Alie whispered, gently squeezing his hand. “Maybe she’s just busy with the program. I’m sure everything will be just fine when she comes back-”
“That’s the thing.” He interrupted. “I don’t know if she’s coming back.” He sounded almost angry, but looking into his eyes Alie could see how sad, broken he was.
“What do you mean?”
Wiping his tears with the sleeve of his jacket, Severide took a deep breath. “Boden wanted Stella to be the new lieutenant on Truck 81, but she didn't reply to his calls either.  I don’t think she wants to be a lieutenant anymore. I don’t think she wants to come back to 51, or to me.” He confessed with a shaky voice. Putting those words out in the open felt like a punch in his stomach, making him sick with just the thought of not being with Stella again.
“Hey, don’t say that.” Alie shook her head, wiping Severide’s fresh tears. “Kelly, she loves you! You’re just going through a tough time in your relationship, but I’m sure everything will be okay.”
“I’m not so sure anymore.” He whispered back.

“Jones?” Pelham called, entering the common room. Looking around, he saw her exiting Severide’s office. Making his way towards her, Pelham gently knocked on the bunk room door, not wanting to wake up the whole team. “Jones? There’s a woman on the apparatus floor wanting to talk to you. It sounded urgent.” He confessed, approaching the firefighter.
Confused, Alie frowned. Besides the fact that it was late, Alie wasn’t used to getting visitors at the firehouse - or anywhere, really. Thanking the lieutenant, Alie made her way to meet the mysterious woman outside the firehouse.
“Can I help you?” Alie asked, approaching the woman who had her back to Alie. As the woman turned around, Alie couldn’t believe her eyes. Taking a step back, she took a shaky breath as her head started to spin. She felt sick.
“Hi, baby.” The woman’s voice was soft as a sympathetic smile appeared on her face. She took a step closer, making Alie take a step back, involuntarily. She aged from the last time Alie saw her. She had more wrinkles than Alie could remember. She had lost a significant amount of weight, probably because of her drinking problems or the death of her husband - or both. Her features had changed. She looked small, fragile. If it wasn’t for those eyes that haunted Alie in her dreams, she wouldn’t have recognized her own mother.
Looking at her mom with side eyes, it took all the strength in her body to make Alie speak. “Wha-What are you doing here??”
“You didn’t reply to any of my texts, or my calls.” Slightly shrugging her shoulders, the woman flashed an apologetic smile. “I thought I could stop by to see you-”
“Well, you can’t. I told you to stay away from me.” Alie cut her off. “Now, please, go away and don’t come back.” She turned around to go back to the firehouse but was stopped by a hand grabbing her arm.
“Alison, please!” The woman begged, staring Alie in the eye. “You can’t avoid me forever. We’re family-”
“DON’T!” Alie shouted as she released her arm. “You don’t get to use that word!” Her chest rose and fell with rapid breaths. “I don’t consider you family. Not anymore.”
Shaking her head, her mom could feel the tears threatening to fall down her cheeks. “Alie, please, don’t say that. I’m your mother, I’ll always be your family!”
The lack of emotion was clear as Alie's steady voice came out just above a whisper. “You are DEAD to me.” As her lips lightly curved into a smirk, she took a step closer. “I hope Stephen is burning in hell right now.”
“Alison!” Her mom slapped her in the face, she couldn’t believe those words. “He was like a father to you!”
“HE DESTROYED ME!” Alie shouted, feeling her cheek burn. “I was just a little girl and he RUINED me!” Shaking her head, Alie quickly wiped her tears with the back of her hand. “And what did you do, huh? NOTHING! You let him do that to me. You chose your disgusting, rapist husband over your own daughter! You never believed me when I told you what he used to do to me!” Alie could feel her throat hurt. She didn’t care if someone could hear her yelling, she didn’t mind the tears running down her cheeks. All she felt was anger, pain, and she just wanted to let it all out. As she let out a long sigh, she looked down at her mother in disgust. “How could you? How can a mother let someone do that to her child? Her baby girl? I trusted him, I trusted you.” Letting out a sob, she ran her hands down her face. She took advantage of her mother's silence to let it all out of her chest. “For so long, every time I used to close my eyes, all I could see was his face. All I could smell was his cheap cologne and the mix of bourbon and cigar. He haunted me for so long. But not anymore!” Standing closer, just a few inches from her mom’s face, Alie screamed. “I WANT YOU TO ROT IN HELL! BOTH OF YOU!”
Her mom stood there in silence, her body shaking - from crying or from fear, no one could tell. Taking a step back, Alie sniffled, cleaning her eyes and nose with the sleeve of her jacket.
“I hate you.” Alison whispered with gritted teeth, looking down at the woman who brought her to the world. “Get out of here and don’t you dare to come back.”
Nodding her head in understanding, her mother turned around and left, crying all the way back to her car. Finally feeling like she could breathe again, Alie walked two steps before she collapsed on the floor. Letting out a low, desperate groan, she felt two arms hugging her body in a tight embrace.
“It’s okay. She’s gone.” Pelham’s voice was soft as he spoke in her ear, his hand running up and down her back. “You’re safe now, I promise.” He whispered, feeling her tears soaking the fabric of his shirt.
For the first time in years, Alie didn’t flinch when she felt a male hand touching her body. Instead, she believed in his words when he told her she was safe. And that's exactly how she felt. Her muscles relaxed under the warmth of Pelham’s embrace. With her head leaned against his chest, she sobbed like a little girl, scared of the monster under her bed. The monster is gone now, but he will always be present in her memories.
Pelham knew Alie was going through something. He just never expected to be this. He didn’t mean to hear the whole conversation, but he did hear Alie’s screams and picked up some pieces. He felt disgusted. He couldn’t imagine what was going through Alie’s mind in this moment, but he knew she needed someone. Even if this someone was a man she barely knew.
Once her breaths were even and she had stopped crying, Alie lifted her head from Pelham’s chest. As their eyes met, her cheeks blushed with embarrassment and she quickly pulled away from him. He shouldn’t have seen her like this. Broken. Fragile.
“I-I should go.” Alie quickly mumbled, standing up. Not looking back, she ran to the bathroom, locking the door right behind her as she muffled her soft cries with the back of her hand.

"You know," Gallo took a seat on the common room table to eat his cereal, then pointed at Pelham with his spoon. "Once Kidd comes back, are you still going to be our lieutenant?"
"I don't know-"
"No, he's not." Severide interrupted, making his way to the coffee pot.
Gallo already regretted making that question, as he felt the tension in the room rising. Shaking his head, Ritter cursed under his breath, whispering a sarcastic 'good job, buddy' as he sent Gallo a thumbs up.
Staring at Severide's back, Pelham licked his lips and sighed. "Chief Boden reached out for her, asking if she wanted to be the new lieutenant, but she didn't answer. She hasn't shown any interest."
"That doesn't mean you get the job." The squad lieutenant replied before making his way to his office.
"Really, Gallo!? What is wrong with you?" Violet whispered, slapping Gallo in the arm.
Playing with the food on his plate, Pelham couldn't help but think about Gallo's question. What was gonna happen to him once Kidd comes back wasn't really a mystery. Pelham was just an interim lieutenant. If Kidd wanted the position, Boden would give it to her right away. Pelham knew that, and he understood why. Kidd had been working at this firehouse for years now, and she was loved by everyone on the team. Pelham didn't stand a chance.
"Hey, Jones!" Mouch greeted her with a big smile as she entered the firehouse.
Hearing that name, Pelham looked up with hopeful eyes and a shy smile, seeing the person who made his days better in this firehouse. However, he knew she's been avoiding him since last night.
Flashing Mouch a weak smile, Alie stopped dead in her tracks once she locked eyes with the lieutenant sitting at the table. Quickly turning around, she rushed to the locker room, not seeing how fast Pelham's smile faded away.
Closing her locker once she grabbed what she needed, Alie stood face to face with the lieutenant, who was leaning against the lockers.
“You don’t have to avoid me, Jones.” He crossed his arms over his chest.
“I’m not avoiding you.” She quickly replied, walking past him.
“Then why are you running away from me?” Pelham followed her to the bunk room, walking right behind her. “Is this about what happened the other night?” He asked with a sigh.
Alie quickly turned around. “Yes, okay? You had no right to hear that conversation!”
“You were screaming!" His voice rose but his features softened when he saw Alie flinch. "I just wanted to make sure you were okay, I wasn’t eavesdropping.” He spoke just above a whisper.
“But you listened to a conversation that didn’t concern you.” The hurt and disappointment were clear in her voice. “Now, please, stop looking at me with those pity eyes. I don’t need your pity, Pelham.”
“So now, what?" He frowned. "I can’t be concerned about you? I can’t make sure my friend is okay? Oh, no, I’m sorry. I forgot we’re not friends.” Pelham let his arms dramatically fall to his sides as a long sigh passed through his lips. “Jesus, Jones. I keep trying to get close to you, only to be pushed away every goddamn time!” Shaking his head, Pelham walked past Alie and left the room.
Swallowing the lump on her throat, Alie bit the inside of her cheek as Pelham's words replayed in her head. She knew he was right, she really was pushing him away. But that's what she did to every man that got too close to her. She kept her tough posture but…on the inside she was softly pleading for him to come back, to hold her one more time and tell her everything would be okay.
-/–/-
“What happened this time?” Brett asked, serving herself a cup of coffee, as Alie stormed into the room.
“Pelham happened.” Alie mumbled, crossing her arms over her chest as she leaned on the counter, next to her friend.
“Uhh, I’ve seen this before.” A smirk appeared on Brett’s face as she stirred her coffee. “You two will end up sleeping together.” She took a sip from her coffee and saw the way Alie almost gagged.
“You gotta be kidding me, right? There’s nothing going on between me and Pelham. It was just a kiss, which I already regret.” Alie confessed with a scoff. “To be honest, I think we do hate each other.”
“Uh-hum, sure.” Brett nodded her head, sipping her coffee. “I’ll pretend I believe that.”

Series Masterlist
Playing with the empty glass in your hand, your eyes darted to the happy couple sitting a few feet away from you at the bar. Flirting and giggling at each other, they looked so in love. It could be you, you thought.
"Hey, buddy." You waved a hand at the bartender, raising your glass. "Pour me another one."
"Tough day, huh?" The bartender asked, taking the bottle of bourbon in his hand and pouring the liquid in your glass for the third time that night.
The day hadn't been tough but the week was about to be, you thought.
After working with wildfires in Sacramento for five years, you decided to come back to Chicago. Two weeks ago, your transfer request was accepted by the CFD. What you didn't expect was to be transferred to Firehouse 51 out of all the other firehouses. Apparently, the CFD had closed some houses, something to do with the low budget, and now they needed a new lieutenant for Engine 51.
You are supposed to work side by side with your ex-boyfriend, Kelly Severide. The man whose heart you broke.
You met Kelly at headquarters when you were in the Academy. He asked you out on a date and a few months later you were in love with each other. He was by your side during your entire time in the academy, showing you support and encouraging you to pursue your dream. As a firefighter, he would always teach you some tricks to improve your performance on the tests and he would spend the whole night awake by your side helping you study.
A few weeks later, you passed the tests and started working at Firehouse 45 as a candidate. Even though you made your dream of being a firefighter come true and you had an amazing boyfriend by your side, you felt like something was missing, you weren't really happy.
That's when you applied for the wildland firefighter training. Kelly was really proud of you and supportive during the whole training. When you spent three months in Sacramento, he missed you but he understood that this was your dream, and even if he had to be away from you for a little while, he encouraged you to continue because he could see how happy you were.
That was until the day you received a letter from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. They wanted you to be transferred to Sacramento, permanently. That was the offer of your dreams.
Since you were just a little girl, your mom use to tell you to never put a man in front of your career. You would always have your career, but a man could always leave.
Taking a sip from your drink, you let your mind wander to the man you left behind five years ago. There was something about the taste of bourbon that reminded you of the way he used to kiss you - gently, but with a bite to it. Closing your eyes, you let the flashbacks flood your mind.
"You're not actually considering this, are you?" Kelly asked, standing in the middle of his living room, holding the letter in his hands. "Are you!?" He asked again with his brow raised.
"Kelly, this is my dream that we're talking about. Of course, I'm considering it!" You snapped back, taking the letter from his hands.
Pacing around the leaving room, he ran his hands through his hair. "So that means you're leaving...You're leaving me, aren't you?" His narrowed eyes locked with yours.
Slightly shaking your head, you let the tears fall from your eyes. "Please, Kelly...don't make me choose." You begged. "Please, baby." You walked towards him and tried to embrace him in your arms, but he pushed you away.
“How was I such an idiot, to believe that you, out of all people, could ever love me?” He scoffed, shaking his head frantically.
"I do! I love you, Kelly..." You whispered, feeling the tears roll down your cheeks.
"No, you don't!" He snapped back. "If you loved me you wouldn't do this!"
Feeling like your legs were giving up on you, you took a sit on the couch and rested your head on the palm of your hands. This was not how you wanted this to go. Your heart was already broken, you didn't want to break his heart too.
“Did it mean anything to you?" Kelly whispered, standing in front of you. "Did I mean anything to you?” Throwing his hands in the air, he continued to pace around. The feeling of anger and betrayal kept him from standing still.
"Kelly, please, don't say that..." You sobbed, feeling your whole body shake. "I'm just doing what I think is right.."
"Yeah, for you!" He barked. "You're doing what you think is best for you but what about me? What about us? You're just going to throw everything we have in the trash??" The only thing he could hear was the loud heartbeat in his ear, the tears blurring his vision. He couldn't believe you were leaving him.
The lump on your throat kept you from speaking, so you just sat there for a minute, sobbing. "I don't know what do you want me to say..." You whispered between sobs.
"Then don't say anything." He said, his voice cold as ice. "Just leave. Pack your shit and go."
"Miss?" The bartender called you. "I'm sorry but we're closing the bar. I'm gonna have to ask you to leave." He said softly, shooting you an apologetic look.
Wiping off the tears that had fallen from your eyes, you paid for your drinks and walked back home.
-/-/-
Parking in front of the firehouse, you glanced at your phone and noticed you were thirty minutes early, just like Chief Boden asked. Since you've dated Kelly for a couple of years, you knew most of his colleagues and an introduction was almost unnecessary. The fact that you were about to see familiar faces brought you some sense of relief.
As you walked inside the firehouse and looked around for Chief Boden, a young man walk towards you.
"Hi! Are you looking for someone?" His voice was soft, sympathetic.
"Yeah, I'm looking for Chief Boden. Do you know where I can find him?" You asked, raising a brow.
"Sure, he's in his office. Follow me." He smiled and waved his hand, gesturing you to follow him. "Ah! I'm Ritter, by the way." He added.
"Nice to meet you, Ritter. I'm Y/L/N." You said, walking behind him.
"So you're my new lieutenant?" He curiously asked, turning around to face you.
"If you're on Engine 51, then I guess I am." You nodded, smiling.
Knocking on the Chief's door, Ritter let him know of your presence and then made his way back to the common room.
As soon as you saw Boden's face, your lips curved into a big smile.
"Y/L/N! It's great to see you." His deep voice was soft. Gesturing for you to take a seat in his office, a fond smile appeared on his face.
"Yeah, it's great to see you too, Chief." You smiled back. Taking a seat on the chair in front of his desk, you placed your bag on the floor.
After giving you a presentation about Firehouse 51 and the truck you were about to run, he removed his glasses and gave you a hesitant look.
"Y/L/N, as I always do when a new lieutenant or captain arrives, I'll call my other two lieutenants to have a brief meeting with us. This way, you can get to know better each other's works and even discuss new ways to approach calls so that no one steps on anyone's toes, if you know what I mean." He asked, studying your face.
"Sure, I understand." You nodded your head in agreement and bit the inside of your cheek, already knowing what he was trying to say.
"I heard that you and Severide are not really in good terms. I'm sorry if I'm being too...invasive but as your Chief, I have to ask...are we going to have a problem with you and Severide working together?" Raising his brows, he patiently waited for you to answer.
You let out a sigh and licked your lips. "Chief, I'm here to do my job and I do not intend on letting my personal life affect my performance. I worked really hard to get where I am today and I'm not going to ruin it over something that's in the past. What happened between me and Severide was five years ago. There's not gonna be a problem between us, I'm sure he will agree with me." You reassured him, flashing a half-smile.
"Great, that's exactly what I wanted to hear." He smiled and walked to the door, opening it and asking for the two men to come inside.
Severide was the first one to walk through the door. The moment you saw him, your heart stopped and your jaw hung slightly open. He still had this effect on you after five years.
He looked different. He had salt and pepper hair and his face had aged a little. But those eyes...they were still the same eyes you fell in love with.
You were so caught up in your thoughts that you barely noticed Casey's hand extended in front of you. Getting up quickly, you shook his hand and smiled.
Extending your hand to Severide, he hesitated for a few seconds before shaking it. Those eyes that used to look at you with tenderness and love now were filled with indifference. But that's better than hate, you thought.
During the whole meeting, Severide avoided your eyes and didn't share a word with you. You could see by the frantically tapping of his foot that he was impatient and would rather be anywhere else.
After the meeting with Boden and the other lieutenants, you introduced yourself to the firefighters and paramedics you haven't met yet. There were a lot of new faces. Ritter introduced you to the other firefighters on Engine 51 and to the other candidate, Gallo. You quickly made a bond with Kidd, Brett, and Violet. You felt a strong connection with the girls, something about them told you would become good friends.
Taking a seat next to Brett in the common room, you placed your coffee on the table and started to read the newspapers, an old habit you got from your time in Sacramento.
Herrmann took a seat next to you and flashed you a big smile. "God, I remember when you were just a kid, at Firehouse 45..." He said, taking a sip of his coffee. "And now you're a lieutenant, huh?" The way he smiled showed you he was proud.
"Yeah...it took some years and a lot of hard work but...I made it." You nodded your head and smiled, proud of your journey.
"Guess it was all worth it after all." Kelly mumbled, getting up from his chair and leaving the room.
His sudden comeback surprised everyone. Biting the inside of your cheek, you lowered your head and stared at the mug in your hands. You couldn't let this affect you, you promised Boden.
"Hey." Herrmann brushed his hand on your shoulder. "Don't mind him. He just needs some time." He shrugged, his lips curving into a half-smile.
"Yeah, maybe five years wasn't enough.." You muttered, finishing your coffee.

Who is Alison Jones? | Prologue | Series Masterlist
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As Alison ran towards the firehouse, her bag bumped against her hip with every stride. She could feel the warm breeze brushing across her face while the droplets of sweat formed on her forehead. Cursing under her breath, Alie regretted wearing a leather jacket on such a hot day.
Out of breath, she reached the apparatus floor and bent forward, resting her hands on her knees as she tried to even her breaths. Alie’s arrival got the attention of the tall man who was talking to Mouch, next to Truck 81.
“Who is she?” The man asked, raising his brows at Alie while he cleaned his hands on an oil-stained rag.
Turning around, Mouch noticed Alie’s presence and waved his hand at her. “Oh, that would be Alison Jones. She’s also on Truck 81, sir.”
Nodding his head in understanding, the man threw the rag over his shoulder and made his way toward Alie. Standing in front of her, he kept a straight face while resting his hands on his waist.
“Ms. Jones? You’re late.” He spoke in an authoritative way.
Raising her head, Alie cleaned the sweat from your forehead using the back of her hand and swallowed hard, feeling her mouth as dry as sand. She felt her whole body burning due to the previous run.
Still trying to catch her breath, Alie nodded her head. “Yeah, well...An asshole parked his car in my spot so I had to turn around and park three blocks away- Wait, give me a sec...” She brought her hand to her chest, feeling her fast heartbeat, and tried to catch her breath again. “...so, I just ran three blocks trying to get here on time, under this burning sun while wearing this stupid jacket.” She took the jacket off and threw it on the floor.
The man licked his lips and plastered an amused smile across his face, extending his hand to her. “It’s nice to meet you, Jones. I’m Jason Pelham, the interim lieutenant.” As Alie shook his hand, he stared deep into her eyes. “I’m the asshole who parked in your spot.”
Letting go of her hand, he made his way inside the firehouse, leaving Alie with an open jaw. “Oh shit.” She muttered, frozen in place with widened eyes. What a great way to meet the new lieutenant.
-/-/-
Taking her bag off her shoulder, Alie entered the locker room and saw Brett sitting on the bench, holding a letter in her hands.
“Lemme guess.” Alie turned to face Brett, getting her uniform out of her bag and stepping out of her boots. “Something from Casey?”
Grinning from ear to ear, Brett kept her eyes on the letter. “It's been hard to connect over the phone because of our schedules, so he sent me a letter.”
“Aw, that’s so cute.” Alie stripped out of her clothes and put on her uniform while Brett talked about going to Portland to see Casey.
Entering the room, Gallo flashed the girls a smile and placed his bag inside his locker. “Hey, have you seen the floater lieutenant yet? I wanna make a good impression about me but I haven’t found him.” He frowned.
Patting her hand on his shoulder, Alie shook her head. “Well, you won’t outstand me though. I just called him an asshole.”
“You did what!?” Brett and Gallo exclaimed at the same time, their jaws hanging open.
Putting her hair up in a ponytail, Alie let a nervous laugh fall from her lips. “Yeah, if I wanted to make an impression…I surely did it.” She muttered, earning a laugh from her friends.
“Oh, Gallo. Casey said to give this to you.” Brett grabbed a piece of paper from Casey’s envelope and handed to him.
“Engine 51, Truck 81, Ambulance 61. Person trapped. 3623…” The alarm blared, making the three first responders rush to the apparatus floor.
After stepping inside her turnout gear, Alie climbed into the truck, letting the door open for Gallo. The youngest member of Truck 81 was putting on his turnout coat when Pelham jogged to his side.
“You must be Gallo. Good to meet you. Lieutenant Pelham.” The lieutenant extended his hand for Gallo, who firmly shook it.
“Yeah, same.” He answered before getting inside the truck. Taking the seat in front of Alie, Gallo met her eyes and shook his head, holding back a laugh.
-/-/-
The ride back to the firehouse was quiet, the tension between Gallo and Pelham was almost palpable. During the call, Gallo followed Pelham's instructions with a bit of reluctance, then muttered under his breath about how his approach would’ve worked the same way and saved time. Pelham heard everything.
Once the truck came to a stop, Gallo stepped out and started to take off his turnout gear, being followed by Alie.
“Hey!” Pelham stepped in front of Gallo, getting his attention. “Maybe those wedges would've held. Maybe they only held because of the webbing. We don't know. And when we don't know, we play it safe.” Clenching his jaw, he turned around to leave.
“Oh, I hear you.” Gallo nodded his head. “I-I was just trying to save time. See, I’m used to having a little more latitude to act on my own.”.
Standing by Gallo’s side, Alie placed a hand on his shoulder. “Casey, our old captain, he knew that Gallo had a pretty good nose for risk-taking.” She said to the lieutenant as he reached the front doors.
“Oh, yeah?” Pelham turned around and stormed towards the two firefighters, standing only a few inches from Gallo’s face. He narrowed his eyes while his nostrils flared. “I’m not Casey. And when I give you an order, I expect you to follow it.” Pelham pointed his finger at Gallo’s face as his chest rapidly rose and fell. “Are we clear?”
Licking his lips, Gallo looked away, avoiding Pelham’s eyes. A mix of anger and shame washed over him. Taking a deep breath, he looked at the lieutenant and nodded.
“Good.” Pelham nodded his head in approval, flashing Alison a glare before disappearing inside the firehouse.
“Hey, don’t worry about that.” Alie softly said, nudging Gallo’s arm with her elbow. “He’s just trying to mark his-“
“I get it.” Gallo’s harsh voice interrupted her and he stormed to the common room. -/-/-
Entering the bunk room, Pelham’s eyes looked around for Gallo, finding Alie laid down on her bed, hands behind her head and eyes closed. A few seconds after pondering if he should talk to her or just let her sleep, he walked towards Alie’s bed.
Clearing his throat, Pelham stood by the foot of her bed. “You awake?” He asked.
“…depends on who’s asking.” She mumbled, eyes still closed.
As a short laugh fell from his lips, Pelham took a seat on the bed next to hers. Opening only one eye, Alie peeked to see what he was doing, then closed her eye again.
Clasping his hands together, he lowered his head and licked his lips. “You know…we got off on the wrong foot.”
“Yeah, you can put it like that.” She answered, opening her eyes and staring at the ceiling.
“So, you don’t really think I’m an asshole, right?” He raised his head and looked at her while his mouth curved into a half-smile.
Sitting up on the bed, Alie laughed and shook her head. “Oh, no. I do think you’re an asshole, especially after that scene with Gallo.” She finally looked at the lieutenant, meeting his dark eyes.
Pelham laughed at her remark, the corner of his eyes wrinkling. “Do you always talk to your superiors like that?” He scoffed.
“Yeah. Why? Am I supposed to be afraid of you?” Alie asked, amused, raising her brows.
“Nah.” He shook his head. After a few seconds of silence, he cleared his throat. “Can I ask you something?”
“Sure.” She nodded.
“Is it true that Casey would let Gallo off the leash on calls?” He leaned forward onto his knees, frowning.
Alie licked her lips and sighed, leaning back on the wall. “Well, Casey really took Gallo under his wings. And sure, Casey had to rein him in here and there, but less as time went by.” Pelham nodded his head, the corner of his mouth turned up slightly in a smile. “Captain Casey meant a lot to this house, huh?”
“More than I can put into words.” Alie smiled, feeling her eyes sting with tears. Casey was one of the only people who could make her feel like this. They’ve always been close. He was the one who showed her not all men are bad. Not having him around was affecting her, but she would never show it.
“You two were close?” He wondered. Studying Alie’s face, he noticed that this was a sensitive topic for her.
“Yeah…a lot, actually.” She answered softly, staring at her hands in her lap.
Deep down, Pelham couldn’t help but feel jealous of Casey. Jealous of the way he was loved and respected around the firehouse. He wanted that too. After years of floating from one house to another, maybe now it was his chance.
“Well..” He stood up, flashing Alie a smile, and walked to the common room door. “I’ve gotta go find Gallo and apologize for being a dick.”
“An asshole.” Alie corrected him, trying to hold back a smirk from plastering on her face.
With his hand on the door handle, Pelham nodded his head and grinned. “Yeah…an asshole.”
Once he disappeared from her sight, Alie rested her head back and smiled. The new lieutenant wasn’t so bad. Maybe she will have some fun with him around the firehouse.
-/-/-
The smell coming from the kitchen made Alie’s lips curve into a smile. Rushing to the common room, she saw the big line in front of the counter. The whole team was holding a plate in hand, waiting for Gallo to serve lunch.
“Is that what I think it is?” Alie grinned, meeting Herrmann’s eyes.
Nodding his head, he met her grin and pointed to Gallo. “Casey gave him his corn beef recipe. He's passing him the torch.” He spoke with a soft voice, feeling nostalgic.
“The first plate goes to…” Gallo announced, cutting the beef. Looking around the room, he noticed the way Pelham looked lost, excluded. “It goes to you, lieutenant.” Gallo smiled, nodding his head at Pelham.
As he heard those words, Pelham couldn’t help but smile. He knew Gallo was just trying to make amends, but still, for the first time, he felt welcomed to the team.

Let Me Help You - Matt Casey x Reader
Tumblr media
Pairing: Matt Casey x Reader
Word Count: 1124
Warning: SMUT +18, minors DNI.
A/N: English is not my first language, so I'm sorry for any mistakes. I hope you have a nice day/night and enjoy the fic! 💕
You were laid down on your bunk bed, tossing and turning while the improper thoughts flooded your mind. You and Casey have been sexting each other during the whole shift. All you wanted right now was to be trapped under his toned body, running your fingertips all over his back while he fucked you, making your eyes roll to the back of your head.
That was something you wanted but couldn't have. At least not right now, not here. What if one of your colleagues wakes up? It was too risky. But the thought of being caught only made you hornier.
You propped yourself on your elbows and looked around the room to make sure everyone was asleep. Seeing that it was all clear, you laid back on the bed and brought your covers up to your neck, covering your entire body. As you let out a shaky breath, you let your hand roam over your body until it finally reached your panties. Closing your eyes, you worked your fingers under the waistband and let them brush across your throbbing clit, bitting your bottom lip to hold back a moan.
You were startled by a notification popping on your phone. Using your free hand you reached from your phone under your pillow, seeing that it was a text from Casey you couldn't hold back the grin.
"Come here. Let me help you with that."
When you read the text, you couldn't help but lick your lips. He's been watching you this whole time.
Quietly, you slipped out of your bed and tip-toed to Casey's office. Opening the door without making a noise, you noticed that the lights were off. The moonlight peeking from the window illuminated Casey's figure on top of the bed.
Shutting the door as quietly as possible, you took off your shoes and loosened your hair, letting it fall back over your shoulders. Without saying a word, Casey sat up on the bed and grabbed you by the waist, pulling you to his lap so you could straddle him.
Placing his hand on the nape of your neck, Casey pulled you in for a passionate kiss. His lips were soft in contrast with your tongues that were fighting for dominance. As you rolled your hips, you felt his bulge through the fabric of his pants. The sudden friction made a moan escape past your lips.
"Shh! We gotta be quiet." Casey whispered, smiling against your lips.
"I can't make any promises." You smirked, looking deep into his eyes, then kissed him again.
As he bit your bottom lip he let his hands roam over your thighs, landing on your ass and grabbing it. You pulled his hair, making him tilt his head to the side so you could kiss his neck.
"Fuck, Matt.." You moaned in his ear, gently nibbling it.
Stripping each other clothes, Casey contemplated your naked body, completely mesmerized. He left a trail of kisses on your neck until he reached the valley between your breasts. He sucked one nipple while he played with the other, making you roll your head back in pleasure.
"Stop teasing." You muttered under your breath. "Just fuck me already."
"As you wish." Letting a chuckle fall from his lips, Casey pinned you down against the mattress so he was hovering over you. He held your arms over your head, capturing your lips in a desperate kiss.
"Matt, please. I need you inside me." You whined, breaking the kiss.
"Please, what?" He waited for you to say exactly what he wanted to hear.
Licking your lips, you looked at him through your lashes. "Please, captain. Fuck me." You whispered, your foreheads touching.
His lips curved into a smile and he got off of you. Grabbing a condom, he placed it on his hard cock after giving it a few pumps. Standing on top of you again, Casey propped himself on his elbows and capture your lips for a kiss.
Spreading your legs open, he brushed his cock over your sensitive clit, earning a small whimper from you. "Fuck, you're so wet." He whispered in your ear, slowly entering your dripping pussy.
As his cock stretched your walls, the feeling of the familiar sting earned a moan from your parted lips. Casey's lips brushed over your neck while your hands roamed over his back, finally landing on his hair, pulling it gently.
Wrapping your legs around his waist, you could feel his cock touching your g-spot. As your chest rose and fell with rapid breaths, Casey left wet kisses all over your exposed skin.
Thrusting deeper inside you, his breaths quickened. "You're so fucking tight, Y/N." He whispered, meeting your eyes.
Reaching a hand between your bodies, he drew circles on your clit. The sight in front of him was making his cock pulse inside your walls.
Casey's hand landed on your neck, holding it tightly, while his thumb brushed over your lower lip. "Don't close your eyes." He ordered. "I want you to look at me while I make you come."
The pleasure combined with the lack of air was messing with your brain, you couldn't make out a word. So you just nodded your head and let your eyes roll to the back of your head.
His eyes were dark with lust. "Tell me how it feels." He whispered in your ear, almost like an order.
You tried to talk, but you couldn't. You were feeling too overwhelmed as tears ran down your cheeks. "Feels....so good.." You managed to whisper between breaths.
You were desperate for air. The feeling of his wet tongue on the sensitive spot of your neck while his cock hit your g-spot was enough to make your walls clench around him. Your stomach tightened and your knees trembled.
"Fuck, Matt...I'm gonna cum." You whispered, bringing a hand to your mouth so you could muffle your moans.
"Cum for me, baby. Let me feel your pussy clenching on my cock" He purred in your ear.
You were both reaching your climax at the same time. Casey raised his head from the crook of your neck and watched you ride out your orgasm, your eyes rolled back as your lips were parted, quietly moaning his name. His pace became sloppy and soon he spilled himself inside you, quiet curses falling from his lips.
Panting, he laid on top of you and rested his head on the crook of your neck while you gently raked your fingertips through his hair.
"Oh, wow." You whispered, smiling.
"Oh, wow indeed." He mimicked you, chuckling against your neck.
"You think someone heard us?" You quietly asked.
"Yeah, I heard everything!" Severide's voice came from the office behind you, separated only by a glass wall.
