Playing fable 2 again and just got jumped by an assassin who said and I quote

"I'm a better shot than Reaver."

Sir. Reaver? This Reaver? The Reaver who shot the lantern next to Captain Dreads head and killed him like that? The Reaver that shot like seven spire guards in 3 seconds???? That Reaver????

#Would have been a REALLY funny game touch if a 'stray' bullet were to headshot/kill any NPC that uses that line #Like even if it happened ONCE as a scripted event I'd lose my mind

I keep thinking about how there could have been a battle between the hero and logan when the hero finally makes it to where he is in the war room, im sure there are multiple reasons gameplay wise they chose not to do that, but i'd also like to think of the implications of it storywise, because when you think of it the hero seemed ready for logan to fight them, however when they enter the war room logan doesnt so much as react defensively, hes simply impressed by his sibling and all theyve accomplished to get to him, and from logans perspective here is his sibling who he may very well have assumed dead after their ship was destroyed on the way to aurora, a situation in which he would have grieved and mourned for the last of his family, not in front of others but alone in his room with no one to comfort him and nowhere to hide from his guilt that the person he cared for most and only wanted to protect may be dead

and now here he is and there they are standing right in front of him and he is impressed and relieved despite everything here they are and theyre okay

and he would never fight them and he knew it long before they ever made it to the castle, and so he surrenders he goes willingly, after all hes done and all the sins hes committed he refuses to add that to his list

and part of him is relieved for his time as king to be over all the awful things hes done are not fixed and he still carries the guilt but now he no longer has bloody his hands in the name of what he thinks is the right thing to do

Something that breaks my heart about Fable 2/3 is that sometimes I’ll be playing at I’ll catch a glimpse of Reavers face and he’ll just look so young. And all I can think of is how young he was when Oakvale was destroyed and how scared he must have been of death.

Obviously I’m not saying he was young young like a child, but he was just a young man too young to be thinking about mortality to the point he lost everyone and everything he loved, only to live an eternity as that young man.

Curse this little tragic man for breaking my heart like this

This probably isn't a new headcanon or anything but I gotta share my thoughts.

In my mind, the reason why there are two different hero weapons in the Sanctuary is because one was supposed to go to each of Sparrow's children. The hammer for Logan, the sword for the HoBW, the pistol for Logan, the rifle for the HoBW.

They're living weapons that change with their users. You can't tell me Sparrow — the master blacksmith — didn't create them on their own.

The Sanctuary was meant for BOTH royal siblings. Sparrow couldn't have imagined what Theresa was going to do, pitting them against each other like she did for the "gReAtEr GoOd."

I also can't imagine Sparrow would ever refer to Theresa as their guide after she used them for decades to get control of the Spire. If Sparrow had known, I think they would have warned Logan and the HoBW not to trust anything the blind seer says.

And maybe it's my own bias but I can't imagine Sparrow leaving everything magical to their secondborn child. There's no way in hell Sparrow could have known only one of their children would have overt Hero abilities. Sparrow only manifested their powers in their 20s so when they died, they fully could have thought Logan would be capable of using magic and accessing the Sanctuary.

(And I refuse to believe Logan got NOTHING from his heroic bloodline, he just can't use Will abilities)

I don't know. It just feels to me that the HoBW was given the things meant for Logan but that might be projecting the fact that Logan was my Sparrow's favorite child lmao

Like yes Albion needed a fully manifested Hero leading the fight but if/when destiny called on their children (aka Theresa being manipulative again) I can't see Sparrow expecting them to fight in any way other than together.

So they were each left a weapon and a wish from a parent who adores them both that when the hell comes knocking at their door they would face it together. Sparrow took every horror on alone. They would never wish that on their children.

tldr: I headcanon that Sparrow made the hero weapons themselves expecting both Logan and the Hero to work together and make use of them. They weren't able to because Theresa meddled and their children were manipulated the same way they were

imagine logans return home after going to aurora, his sibling isnt sure whats wrong but they can tell something has changed, he looks as if the light has left his eyes and despite his already gaunt frame he looks as though hes lost weight

he returns to the castle alone, the soldiers he had left with were dead somewhere in aurora, never to see their families again, and their faces flash in his mind over and over

and that night logan leaves some of the candles burning in fear of laying there in the darkness after what hes experienced

but it doesnt help him as much as he hoped as the night terrors grip him the second he falls into a deep sleep, and he wakes up gasping for air begging for help only to realize he"s in his room in the castle

but it doesnt feel like his room, its almost as if he can feel the darkness emanating from ever little shadow thats left behind as the candles flame dances around, it feels like he's not alone, and he jumps up grabbing his sword prepared for a fight until he realizes there isnt anyone there

the next morning when he arrives at the table to eat breakfast with his sibling he has bags under his eyes his hair still slick from sweat, and his eyes seem to dart around the room as though hes waiting for something to happen, and no matter how much they pry and beg him to, he never tells his sibling what happened, going so far as to make them promise not to ask again

and he simply pushes around his breakfast, no appetite for it after the ordeals he's been through, but he manages to eat if only to appease his sibling

then that evening is when theresa visits him and tells him of the inevitable arrival of the darkness to albion, and he sees an image flash before him of his sibling dying killed by the crawler and the darkness right in front of him as he can do nothing to stop it

and thats when he makes the decision to do whatever he has to no matter what the kingdom may think of him to save them from the darkness

and from there everything changes he no longer spends time with his sibling like he used to brushing them off when they ask why saying hes busy or doesn't feel like it, his policies seem to do a 180, the king the people knew and loved, who killed the trolls and traveled the country doing expeditions and meeting the people, turns to a tyrant, and soon enough thats all they remember him as

also imagine logan and the hero of brightwall finding out their greatx10 aunt turned them against each other and caused one of them to lead a revolution against the other, like i know someone who isnt getting invited to the next family reunion

realizing i never elaborated on this. so basically i thought reavers color scheme and fable 3 was odd cause white and black is an odd combo for steampunky colors esp if there isn’t a lot of brown. but they’re also too drab to be flamboyant reaver colors and like, it’s just a weird color combo. anyways i fell into a rabbit hole about colors in the victorian era and their common usages and white, black, and purple are all common mourning colors. sure i guess you could argue that these colors on the characters represent wealth and prestige but if i was reaver and the bestie died, id be dramatic as fuck about it too. anyways there’s a lot more under the cut so fuck it

disclaimer I know fable 3 isn’t explicitly set in the Victorian era but it takes a LOT of inspiration from early Victorian/Industrial era Britain, enough so that I feel its fair to interpret through that lens.

Reaver

Men’s wardrobes were often fairly muted with some browns allowed, and colors would differ depending on the period of mourning you were in (black> black and grey> black and white> black/white and purple> normal colors again)

also important to note that the mourning period would change based off of how close you were with the deceased. Mourning could be anywhere from a few months to a few years.

Black silk top hat with a seven inch crepe (the band on the hat) that is either black, grey or beige.

His clothes are all white with black trimmings which would have been common half mourning attire

ALSO his undershirt under his brown vest is black. Which is also just uncommon in the Victorian era and also in fable 3 lmao, no one fucking dresses like him

his cravat is also black which you literally do not wear unless you are in mourning. Its weird

Like sure you can say he wears white cause he’s a factory owner and is able to stay clean cause he’s rich, but who shows off their wealth in the dullest, most drab colors. All the other nobles walk around in the brightest, most vivid, eye assaulting color combinations, why is he different. Here are some examples of black and white half mourning and quarter mourning attire.

Most of the examples are women’s clothes because um, Victorian misogyny and women being expected to mourn longer while men were expected to be breadwinners and provide for their families. But if you read through old magazines and guides from the time you’ll find that men also wore similar clothes made with the same colors and materials, just usually for a shorter period of time.

In conclusion you can interpret this as however you like but personally I like this idea cause his clothes are just so ugly otherwise.

Little bonus to talk about the HOBW and Logan because they both wear purple and you could fairly interpret that as “oh those are royal colors” “purple is meant to be a neutral color opposed to blue or red”. But look.

Purple, specifically purples with white were often worn by the children of the deceased while in mourning as drab colors would raise an ‘unpleasant child’.

GOING DOWN A RABBIT HOLE WHEN I SHOULD BE SLEEPING LET’S GOOOOOO

In Fable 3 he’s canonically trying to completely erase his history as a pirate; if he drastically changes his appearance he can WAY more plausibly convince the average Albionite that Reaver the Pirate was not him. (The people of Albion on average are not particularly bright).

We know he’s looked roughly the same up until then, because in Fable 2 people talk about their grandparents or ancestors having sailed with him, and swearing he looks exactly the same.

I know I’m probably giving the Devs too much credit on this one, but there ARE in-universe explanations for Reaver’s change in appearance. (Especially since Fable 3 was definitely already in mind when the DLCs came out, judging by the Welley Soldier Outfit. It COULD have possibly been intentional for Reaver’s appearance being so drastically different to not simply be an oversight)

I never thought of this because I never had the DLCs when I was a kid playing the games, but like?? Knothole Island’s economy is said to be heavily Pirate based.

Knothole Island has potions that make you shorter.

Being fucking eight feet tall would give him away as a Hero of Skill SO fast.

He’s so much taller by Fable 3, but Sparrow being the lauded Hero Queen kind of makes it safe to be a Hero again; he doesn’t have to bother disguising his height.
